Scottie Miller :: STAY ABOVE WATER
On his latest effort, Stay Above Water, respected pianist and Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame inductee Scottie Miller continues to mix celebratory, uptempo numbers with introspective, inspiring lyrics. The touring keyboardist for three-time Grammy nominee Ruthie Foster (who lends vocals to the track "Keep This Good Thing Going"), Scottie is a multi-instrumentalist who takes influences ranging from New Orleans R&B to blues and touches of gospel to create fresh, lively tunes that are as intelligent as they are danceable. Produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos, Stay Above Water features smart lyrics, fat grooves, and delivery that's full of heart and soul.

"Minneapolis City Paper writes of the album, "[Miller's] signature style warps far to the south of his home tundra ... his muscular vocals boast grit and firewater."

The Nighthawks :: ALL YOU GOTTA DO
Legendary blues and roots band (and Blues Music Award winners) The Nighthawks latest CD is All You Gotta Do. The band is also enjoying critical acclaim for Michael Streissguth’s award-winning documentary film about their history, The Nighthawks – On the Blue Highway, which is now available on DVD from the group’s website, as well as Amazon.

Eclectic? All over the map? The material on All You Gotta Do, The Nighthawks’ latest release, can certainly be described in these terms. Yet, throughout the nearly five decades of its career, the band has sourced songs from everywhere and anywhere. The prototype recording, Rock and Roll, although it had no originals, established this template in 1974. Three years later, Sidepocket Shot, showed the band capable of nearly all original material and spanning an even wider range of genres, this time in an array of production styles a la the Beatles' Revolver. ...Find more about this CD and these artists

Music Maker Shares Video Documenting Partnership With Telluride Blues & Brews Fest
By Scott Bernstein /Jambase
Last month, organizers of the Telluride Brews & Blues Festival invited Music Maker Relief Foundation partner artists Robert Finley and Alabama Slim to play the long-running event. The Music Maker Relief Foundation has just unveiled a video documenting the blues performers’ visit to Telluride Brews & Blues as well as the partnership with festival organizers.

Music Maker is a 501c3 non-profit which was founded to preserve the musical traditions of the South by directly supporting the musicians who make it, ensuring their voices will not be silenced by poverty and time. When one of the festival’s organizers, Steve Gumble from SBG Productions, met Music Makers’ Tim Duffy, the pair bonded over a shared appreciation of the musical traditions of America’s South and of the Foundation’s mission. Gumble and Duffy first teamed in 2015 to bring artists from the Music Maker roster to Telluride.  ...Find link to entire article here
