Alki UCC Weekly Messenger October 27, 2017
This Sunday, October 29:
Reformation Sunday
Five hundred years ago -— on October 31, 1517 — a priest named Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses, or points for discussion, on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg Germany.

The questions he raised about the Church’s practices and theology launched what we now refer to as the Protestant Reformation.

This Sunday we commemorate this historic 500th anniversary, pondering what it means for us today. On a lighter note, after the service Pastor Diane will be selling indulgences (certificates of forgiveness) to support the treasury of Alki UCC — a playful, and hopefully fruitful, reminder of the corruption that Luther protested so vehemently in 1517!

Bring your checkbook!
Final Notice re: Faith Action Network Annual Dinner
If we are going to purchase tickets for an Alki UCC table of ten (at early bird rate) the reservations need to be made by Tuesday.

If you want to attend and sit with other Alki people, please let Pastor Diane know by this Sunday. Otherwise we’ll just make our own individual reservations, or try to join Kol HaNeshamah.

The dinner is Sunday, November 19, 5:30 pm, at the Renton Pavillion Event Center. Early bird tickets are $70 each. Event Information Here
Church School Update
Given our current financial constraints, we won’t be hiring a new Children’s Ministry Coordinator to replace Candi Terao for a while. We’ll be depending on volunteers to carry out our Church School program for the forseeable future.

Fortunately, we have a good, user-friendly curriculum and several experienced teachers who already commit one Sunday a month to our children; we just need three or four more people willing to be with the children during worship once every four-six weeks, and we’ll be fine.

Please let Pastor Diane know if you feel called to be one of those people!
Calling All Singers!
Itching to sing with the choir, but too busy most of the year? Come join the choir for Advent and Christmas!

We’re having four special rehearsals right after worship on November 5, 12, 19 and 26, and we’d love to have you join us. No audition required.

Text, call, or email me if you have questions about the schedule or whether this is a good fit for you.
