Sue Foley :: THE ICE QUEEN
The Ice Queen, Sue Foley’s debut CD on Stony Plain Records, was produced by Mike Flanigin, who also plays organ on the new disc, and was recorded at Firestation Studios in San Marcos, Texas. Joining Sue Foley as special guests is a trio of legendary Texas guitar slingers – Jimmie Vaughan, Z.Z. Top’s Billy F Gibbons and Charlie Sexton - as well as a host of other Lone Star State all-stars, including Chris “Whipper” Layton (formerly of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble) and George Rains (drums), Derek O’Brien (guitar), Chris Maresh and Billy Horton (bass) and The Texas Horns: John Mills, Al Gomez, Jimmy Shortell, Randy Zimmerman and Mark “Kaz” Kazanoff.

“I’m extremely excited to be working with Holger Petersen and Stony Plain Records,” Sue Foley says about the CD. “Holger is one of the most knowledgeable ‘real music’ people in the business. Stony Plain is known to put out great music and I know The Ice Queen has found her home.”

Ghost Town Blues Band :: BAND BACKSTAGE PASS
Backstage Pass is the fourth official release from Memphis, TN’s Ghost Town Blues Band. This 65-minute, high-energy, record led by front man Matt Isbell is an enormous blues and roots explosion that captures the best of what the Ghost Town Blues Band has become known for… Their live show.

Recording almost all of their festival, theater and club sets over the past two summers, this album is choke-full of redefined horns, organ, piano, harmonica, cigar box guitars, twin leads and Isbell’s gravel-soaked vocals. All of the live cuts on Backstage Pass ended up coming directly from the historic Lafayette’s Music Room stage in Memphis, TN on July 29, 2017 and was mixed by 8-time Grammy nominated producer and engineer Kevin Houston, who also plays sax with the band.

Backstage Pass opens with Ghost Town’s hill-country take on the Beatles classic “Come Together.” Matt Isbell, known for making over 400 cigar box guitars, showcases his 3-string on this tune which not only transforms into “Norwegian Wood” but then into the Zeppelin classic “Whole Lotta Love.”

Gator by the Bay Presents Blues to Feel Happy About
By Wendy Lemlin
Proving that there is nothing sad about the blues, the Gator by The Bay 2018 festival’s lineup has plenty to put a smile on any blues lover’s face. The 18-year-old music festival, happening May 10-13, 2018 at Spanish Landing Park, began primarily as a showcase for Louisiana-style zydeco and Cajun music, but these days has grown to feature 7 stages with over 100 musical acts of many genres. With over 25 Blues artists on the schedule, Gator By The Bay’s Blues game is sure to be super strong again this year.

Headlining the kickoff concert on Thursday evening, May 10, Southwest Louisiana-based slide guitarist, songwriter, and singer Sonny Landreth is known as “The King of Slydeco” for the zydeco influences in his unique guitar stylings. The noted slideman started out in The Red Hot Louisiana Band of zydeco legend Clifton Chenier, and his unorthodox guitar style comes from the manner in which he simultaneously plays slide and makes fingering movements on the fretboard.
