Grand Marquis :: BRIGHTER DAYS
Formed during the jump blues and swing band revival in the late 90s in Kansas City, the birthplace of swing, Grand Marquis (Grand Mar-key or Grand Mar-keys) has established themselves as one of the hardest working bands in the region. The masterful six-piece horn band injects a vibrant relevance into their brand of jazz and blues music while delivering a classic, timeless ‘straight-from-the-speakeasy’ sound. The group made the finals at the International Blues Challenge in 2011 and their last album Blues And Trouble drew rave reviews including being voted one of the top three best self-produced recordings of 2013 by the Blues Foundation.

For their eighth release, Brighter Days, Grand Marquis explore the musical epicenters of Kansas City, New Orleans and Memphis that have influenced their twenty-year labor of love. Bryan Redmond (lead vocals, saxophone) deftly plays the role of ring master for the collection of seven original tracks and the inspired covers of a Jimmy Cliff classic and a gospel standard. Opening track “Another Lover,” kickstarts the journey by taking us to Soulsville with a genuine Stax records styled groove of infectious horn band power and phat back soul stew.

Teresa James & The Rhythm Tramps :: HERE IN BABYLON
A native of Houston Texas, singer songwriter and roadhouse piano player, Teresa James has been based in Los Angeles since the 90’s, where she has assembled a group of some of the top L.A based touring and session musicians into her band, The Rhythm Tramps. James, whose style draws instant comparisons to Bonnie Raitt and Lou Ann Barton, is a unique figure in the blues and roots world as soprano whose voice is equal parts sweet and salty with just a sprinkle of southern twang and plenty of full-throated range.

Her tenth album Here In Babylon is the first one that she and the Tramps tracked ‘live’ in the studio. James was joined by her longtime partner, Terry Wilson, on bass and Billy Watts on guitars along with drummer Jay Bellerose to record all the songs in two days of tracking. Bellerose is well known for his work in the rhythm section for producer T Bone Burnett and joins the Tramps for the first time to add his imaginative style of drumming and take the group in a slightly new direction. ...Find more about this artist and release

4-Day Passes going fast for Clarksdale’s biggest Deep Blues Festival
(CLARKSDALE, MS) - Deep Blues Festival organizers say that this year's 11th edition promises to be the biggest and best yet with an emphasis on heavy music rooted in the American Music Triangle. 4-Day Passes for the October 11-14, 2018 festival are selling fast, and with this year's lineup, it's easy to see why.

 Living Legend Otis Rush... a story by Jim O'Neal

Story by Jim O'Neal
Otis Rush amazed audiences with his guitar excursions and could evoke goosebumps with the depth of emotion in his singing and playing. He influenced the music of Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Stevie Ray Vaughan and others, and recorded masterpieces like “Double Trouble” and “All Your Love (I Miss Loving).” But the blues ran deep in Otis Rush, and not just in a musical sense. Peek behind the musician to the man that is Otis Rush in our annual Living Legend feature.
