Buddy Guy :: The Blues Is Alive And Well
The title of Buddy Guy's latest album says it all: The Blues Is Alive and Well. The legendary blues artist's eighteenth solo LP and follow-up to 2015's Born to Play Guitar showcases his raw and unadulterated sound, its fifteen tracks a true pleasure for aficionados and genre newcomers alike. "I got children and grandchildren who didn't know who I was, but nowadays we can play outdoor concerts and see kids that are eight, nine, twelve years old coming to me and saying, 'I didn't know who you was, but I read what Eric Clapton said about you,'" Guy explains when discussing his mindset around the new record. "I'm always trying to make an album that someone accidentally plays where some kid hears it, picks up a guitar, and helps keep the blues alive."

And it only takes one listen to The Blues Is Alive and Well to realize that Guy's mission has been more than accomplished here. The record is arriving on the heels of a spate of high visibility for the 81-year-old performer:

 Dharmasoul :: LIGHTNING KID
Drums, guitar, and vocals are the backbone and energy behind the new album Lightning Kid, the debut record of New Jersey based power-duo Dharmasoul. With Jonah Tolchin on guitar, Kevin Clifford on drums, and the two singing both lead and backup vocals, this duo brings their songwriting and production chops to their new band Dharmasoul. Audiences who’ve heard the two in concert look around to see who else is playing up on stage due to the fullness of the sound and the sheer energy of these musicians as they pour every bit of creativity and originality into their compositions, improvisatory performance, and expert musicianship.

Although Dharmasoul is difficult to narrow down into one genre, they can best be described through their noted influences of contemporary artists such as Medeski Martin Wood & Scofield, Vulfpeck, D’Angelo, Soulive, Snarky Puppy, and Lettuce as well as throwback influences including The Meters, Staple Singers, Otis Redding, The Allman Brothers Band, and Stevie Wonder.

2018 Trinidaddio Blues Fest Aug 24 & 25
(TRINIDAD, CO) - Central Park, Trinidad the 2018 edition of Trinidaddio Blues Fest will host another world-class lineup starring Robert Randolph & the Family Band ~ 2018 Grammy Nominee for Best Contemporary Blues Album for their 2017 release Got Soul! Many musicians claim that they “grew up in the church,” but for Robert Randolph that is literally the case. The renowned pedal steel guitarist, vocalist and songwriter led such a cloistered childhood and adolescence that he heard no secular music while growing up. If it wasn’t being played inside of the House of God Church in Orange, New Jersey—quite often by Robert and members of his own family, who upheld a long but little-known gospel music.

Appearing just before Randolph will be Kenny Neal ~ 2017 Grammy Nominee for Best Contemporary Blues Album, Bloodline! If you want to experience the “Real Deal” take time out to find Kenny Neal.  ...Find more about Trinidaddio

Southern California, June 2018, 6 String Showdown – Trade Licks with the Best!
Presenting the Summer’s Biggest Event:
A head-to-head blues guitar competition, New Blues Festival Presents 6 String Showdown
This summer the Long Beach Blues Society, Orange County Blues Society, and the New Blues Festival have teamed up to present the 6 String Showdown, a series of regional guitar competitions to crown Southern California’s all-around best blues guitar player on the Main Stage of the New Blues Festival Sunday, September 2nd.

This is not a battle of the bands. This is a head to head blues guitar competition; an authentic guitar celebration.

Judging will be based on skill, not speed. Criteria are tasty licks played with feeling, phrasing, personal expression, tone, timing, dynamics, reflection, and solos that tell a story.
Judging will be based on three criteria:
- Technique 30%
- Showmanship 30%
- Audience responses 40%
There are only 20 spots available in each regional (60 total) and they are filling up fast. ...Find more about the 6 String Showdown
2018 International Songwriting Competition (ISC) Judges Announced
The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) is pleased to announce its panel of judges for the 2018 competition. Established in 2002, ISC is the world's largest songwriting competition and is open to both professional and amateur songwriters, signed and unsigned. A total of 71 winners in 23 categories share in over $150,000 in cash and prizes, including an overall Grand Prize consisting of $25,000 (US) cash, and much more.

ISC offers the opportunity for songwriters to be heard by an elite panel of recording artists and music executives. The panel is comprised of high-profile recording artists and Presidents, CEOs, and A&R executives from many top record labels and publishing companies. Over the years, ISC has helped to propel many artists to achieve greater success, including getting record and publishing deals, licensing agreements, gigs, and much more.  “There are a lot of songwriting competitions in the world, but only ISC has judges of such prestige and influence,” said Candace Avery, Founder and Director of ISC.
