Lurrie Bell & The Bell Dynasty :: TRIBUTE TO CAREY BELL
It's almost 50 years since blues harpmaster Carey Bell released his debut album on Delmark Records. Carey's children followed him into blues and performed with him often while growing up. Lurrie's debut recording was with Carey appearing on Heartaches And Pain (Delmark) and he joined with pops again in 2006 to record a live album / DVD, Gettin' Up. Now Lurrie, Steve, Tyson and James Bell join forces as The Bell Dynasty to present this tribute to their dad, Carey Bell.

Lurrie Bell now has 8 Delmark albums including Can’t Shake this Feeling, a Grammy finalist in 2017, and the 2 collaborations with his father, the legendary Carey Bell. While Laurie has achieved international status as a world-class blues artist, his brothers are no less talented. Steve Bell is an amazing harmonica player currently a member of John Primers band. Bassist Tyson Bell has worked with Shawn Holt and brings a rock-solid bottom to the CD. Drummer James Bell has a unique sound.

The Reverend Shawn Amos ::
THE REVEREND SHAWN AMOS BREAKS IT DOWN
Los Angeles-based soul brother number one, the Reverend Shawn Amos, continues his mission to preach joyful blues to the world on his third album, The Reverend John Amos Breaks It Down. When asked to write a short reflection describing the album and what he means by calling it a collection of 21st century Freedom Songs, this is his response: “this album was born while on tour through the American south during the spring of 2017. Driving through Tennessee and Alabama, I was reminded of my color, my otherness. I was drawn to how we pull ourselves apart while needing each other so badly. I revisited the freedom songs of The Staple Singers while visiting the ghosts of Birmingham and Memphis. Time stands still and life marches on.”

The 9-song set that includes five original songs, 2 inspired covers, and a 3-track “Freedom Suite” that rolls out like a Sunday passion-play of inspiration, desperation and revelation. Amos was obviously inspired by tremendous turmoil and social unrest around the world today...

Hayward-Russell City Blues Festival July 7-8
(HAYWARD, CA) - The Hayward-Russell City Blues Festival celebrates the rich history, musical and cultural art form found in Russell City and Hayward during the post war years from the 1940's thru the 1960's. The event will be held at Hayward City Hall Plaza (777 "B" Street, Hayward, California) from 11am-7pm.

This little town of African-American's, who migrated from the deep south, was one of the proving grounds for many blues musicians. Russell City, an unincorporated area of Hayward, California is about 12 minutes from the City of Oakland. This community of modest houses and small farms along the bay is now gone. During it's heyday, Russell City was a down home community, known for it's clubs with dirt floors, bootleg electricity and a steady stream of musicians playing a unique style of Delta Blues. During the early part of their careers, artists such as Big Joe Turner and Big Mama Thornton played Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana style blues in Russell City. West Coast Blues music eventually influenced the traditional sound when horns replaced the harmonica and West Coast Blues was born.

2018 Trinidaddio Blues Fest Aug 24 & 25
(TRINIDAD, CO) - Central Park, Trinidad the 2018 edition of Trinidaddio Blues Fest will host another world-class lineup starring Robert Randolph & the Family Band ~ 2018 Grammy Nominee for Best Contemporary Blues Album for their 2017 release Got Soul! Many musicians claim that they “grew up in the church,” but for Robert Randolph that is literally the case. The renowned pedal steel guitarist, vocalist and songwriter led such a cloistered childhood and adolescence that he heard no secular music while growing up. If it wasn’t being played inside of the House of God Church in Orange, New Jersey—quite often by Robert and members of his own family, who upheld a long but little-known gospel music.

Appearing just before Randolph will be Kenny Neal ~ 2017 Grammy Nominee for Best Contemporary Blues Album, Bloodline! If you want to experience the “Real Deal” take time out to find Kenny Neal.  ...Find more about Trinidaddio

Arkansas Blues… In the Dirt & On the Air
Story by Don Wilcock

Arkansas blues is almost synonymous with KFFA’s King Biscuit Time radio show out of Helena, AR. Not only was it the first live blues show on the air, but it’s become the longest running music show in the world. Sonny Boy Williamson (II), Robert Lockwood, Jr. and Pinetop Perkins are just a few of the Biscuit’s entertainers, among many other blues greats who call Arkansas home.
