 Delmark's 65th Anniversary (various) :: TRIBUTE
To celebrate Delmark's 65th anniversary here's Tribute, an album featuring blues artists who have recorded for Delmark in this century paying tribute to founder Bob Koester and the artists that recorded for the label in the 1960s and 70s. Tribute features Omar Coleman, Lurrie Bell, Linsey Alexander & Billy Flynn, Demetria Taylor, Jimmy Burns, Lil’ Ed & Dave Weld, Jimmy Johnson & Dave Specter, Corey Dennison, Mike Wheeler, Shirley Johnson, Ken Saydak, a host of top-notch accompanists, and also a bonus track.

The tributes on the album are heartfelt and moving. That's because the artists paying tribute have a special tie to those they are paying tribute to. Omar Coleman has long been a fan of Junior Wells and lists him as one of his biggest influences; Jimmy Johnson's brother was Magic Sam's bassist; Lil' Ed (on loan from Alligator Records) is J.B. Hutto's nephew; there's a Tennessee connection between Corey Dennison and Sleepy John Estes; a Mississippi connection between Jimmy Burns and Big Joe Williams; Billy Flynn's mentor was Jimmy Dawkins;  ...Find more about this artist and release

Legendary David Bromberg to close Blues On the Chippewa  festival Aug 5th
(DURAND, WI) The 11th Annual Blues on the Chippewa free festival, held at Memorial Park in Durand WI, will take place Aug 3-5 and has added David Bromberg as the closing slot.

Bromberg’s journey spans five-and-a-half decades and includes – but is not limited to – adventures with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jerry Garcia, and music and life lessons from seminal blues guitarist Reverend Gary Davis, who claimed the young Bromberg as a son. A musician’s musician, Bromberg’s mastery of several stringed instruments (guitar, fiddle, Dobro, mandolin), and multiple styles is legendary, leading Dr. John to declare him an American icon. In producing John Hartford’s hugely influential Aereo-Plain LP, Bromberg even co-invented a genre: Newgrass, but for Americana godfather David Bromberg, it all began with the blues.

Now, with The Blues, the Whole Blues, and Nothing But the Blues, his first release for Red House Records, Bromberg and multi-Grammy-winning producer/accompanist Larry Campbell (Dylan, Levon Helm, Paul Simon) focus on the music David discovered in high school, ...Find more about Blues On The Chippewa
Delta Blues Museum Celebrates Malaco Music Group's 50th with reception July 19 and opening of Summer exhibit
(CLARKSDALE, MS) - Delta Blues Museum is pleased to announce a special summer exhibit in partnership with The Malaco Music Group, in celebration of the group's 50th anniversary year: On July 19, the Museum will open "The Last Soul Company: 50 Years of Excellence" honoring Malaco's milestone.

"The collaboration with Malaco Music Group formalizes the symbiotic relationship between the record company and the Delta Blues Museum," Museum Director Shelley Ritter says.  "We are pleased to celebrate Malaco's longstanding work as we pay homage daily to many of the legendary recording artists associated with the label such as Fred McDowell, Little Milton Campbell, Artie 'Blues Boy' White, Denise LaSalle, Dorothy Moore, Bobby Rush and others."

The exhibit will feature vintage recording equipment, a video retrospective of Malaco and other important historical items that span the 50 years of the company's growth.  Of the collaboration, Malaco co-founder Tommy Couch Sr. says, "We are excited to curate the exhibit in conjunction with Delta Blues Museum to showcase our contribution to the historic blues genre.  And we are honored to share a few of the countless memories from so many recording sessions with our artists.  Many of those artists are from the Mississippi Delta, including Little Milton from Inverness, Denise LaSalle, who grew up near Sidon, and Tyron Davis, who was born in Greenville."

An opening reception, with music provided by Anthony "Big A" Sherrod, will be held at the Museum on Thursday, July 19th from 5 - 7PM and is free and open to the public.
