Alki UCC Weekly Messenger November 16
Report from the Chair
It has been a busy time here at Alki UCC these last few weeks, and I would like to update everyone on what your representatives have been doing. First of all, I would like to thank Pastor Bruce Wilson for his invaluable service to all of us here at Alki.

Bruce stayed with us as long as he could, two months longer than what was asked of him. With a full-time job, plus being a graduate student, it became apparent that he needed a break. Words cannot express my gratitude for his faithful service to our church and our members, especially those in personal crisis. Bless you, Bruce, and thanks. We will be passing around a card on Sunday for everyone to sign and leave a note along with a gift basket.

Pastor Cameron will lead worship for the next several weeks after which the board has decided to have a rotating group of Pulpit Supply ministers to share their different perspectives on Christian life, purpose and worship. It is often said that variety is the spice of life, so come share in life's abundant spices during this Advent Season. Our Advent planning committee, led by Davney Stahley, has memorable ceremonies planned and would love to share this season with us all.

Finally, for now, we have met with our Kol HaNeshamah partners about their (and our) security concerns after the Tree of Life synagogue shooting. We stand in solidarity with them and have agreed to upgrade our security systems by adding cameras to the front and side building entrances, an intercom system for our offices and sensor lights around the building perimeter. We will report details as our plans develop.

Feel free to ask me or any board member questions during this transition time. Remember Forrest Gump's mother's favorite saying: "Life is like a box of chocolates." Come and try the different flavors offered at Alki UCC. Thanks, Rod

This Sunday, November 18 at 10:00 am
This Sunday we again welcome Guest Preacher Rev. Dr. Cameron Sharp, who will be giving a sermon titled Thankfully, God knows we are just mud.

Pastor Cameron notes:
Sam Storms captures the truth in one simple sentence: “I think we run from God rather than to God because we know our own hearts all too well and the heart of God barely at all. The good news is that God knows us inside and out, keeps in mind that we’re made of mud. (Psalm 103:14).

This Sunday we will consider Psalm 103 looking for understanding of the heart of God.
