"Stories, Questions, Listening Hearts"
This Sunday at 10:00 am
|
This Second Sunday in Lent we draw close to Jesus as he begins his last journey to Jerusalem. He offers a deep lament for God’s children even as Herod is bent on killing him.
Ultimately, we all face barriers. Some are formidable, others impossible to overcome. How do we deal? What do we learn from Jesus?
New this season is the Worship Design Team’s decision to have members offer some of their own faith stories during worship. On Sunday, we welcome Bonita Corliss as she shares. After singing together a song she has chosen, there will be a chance for folks to respond to Bonita’s words. — Pastor Terry
Our scripture is Luke 13:31-35
Barriers … fears … do we learn something from attempting “the impossible?”

Rev. Terry Teigen Leading Lenten/Easter Worship and Providing Pastoral Care
|
The Lenten Design team is working with Rev. Terry Teigen, Alki UCC's visiting pastor for Lent and through Easter. In addition to leading worship, he is available for pastoral care during that period. Contact the Church Office for details.
Terry is a lifelong resident of the Puget Sound region. He received his MDiv from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA, and was ordained as a United Presbyterian pastor.
In 1984 Terry made the shift to the United Church of Christ and served Normandy Park and Admiral congregations in the Pacific Northwest Conference.
In 2008 he became a spiritual care provider (chaplain) at Horizon House, a UCC-affiliated retirement community on First Hill. Now retired, Terry continues to engage in ministry. He and his life partner, Martha, have lived in West Seattle since 2001 and are happily involved grandparents of three granddaughters.

How you can easily help a local Honduran refugee family
|
Our partner synagogue, Kol HaNeshamah (KHN) has been sponsoring a Honduran refugee family — Magdiel, Mirna and two-year-old Joshua, who are seeking asylum in the United States.
Since they don't yet have legal status to work for pay, KHN has been underwriting their housing, food, utilities and other living costs.
The family has recently incurred unexpected medical bills and KHN is requesting our help.
Contributions of any size and grocery card gift cards are most welcome.
You can make a donation by:
♦ Writing a check to Alki UCC with "Refugee Family" in the memo line, or
♦ Donating a grocery gift card, marked "Refugee Family."
Leave the check or card in the collections tray on Sunday or send to the Church Office at 6115 SW Hinds, Seattle 98116.
Learn more about Mirna, Magdiel and Joshua's journey in this video and here.

Prayers for the victims and all those affected by the
horrific shootings this morning at two mosques in
Christchurch, New Zealand.
Wider World: All those affected by myriad inhumane immigration policies; prayers for fewer guns and for all victims of gun violence; victims and survivors of extremist violence around the world; migrants seeking refuge around the world, and for those who are trying to help them. The rest of the missing schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram, who remain in our hearts as long as they remain missing. The hungry and homeless, the ill and the addicted, the lost and the lonely; the unemployed.

Following is the note that accompanied a generous donation to our Tiny House project:
Most people wish the best for their neighbors and give gladly when they know their needs.
In that spirit, we are donating $6,000 towards two tiny houses at Camp Second Chance.
