Adam Holt :: KIND OF BLUES
Alabama roots singer, guitarist Adam Holt’s new release date, Kind of Blues on Zenith Records, is a 10-song showcase of his incredibly soulful vocals and blistering blues/southern rock guitar work. Nine tunes are originals, with a dreamy version of Bob Dylan’s “Lay Lady, Lay” closing out the disc.

Produced by Holt, Kind of Blues features Adam on vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, piano and organ, backed by a solid band of Owen Finley – bass; Greg Deluca – drums; Donnie Sundal - organ, piano; Lee Yankie - slide guitar; Mark Welborn - pedal steel; and Pierre Robinson – bass. The album was recorded at Studio ’78, Holt’s analog commercial studio in Alabama, using his Ampex MM1100 16 track 2-inch machine for tracking. The band all played together to get the basic tracks and he overdubbed some guitar solos and all the backing vocals. The tracks were mixed at Dockside Studio in Lafayette, Louisiana, and mastered by Kevin Nix at LNix Mastering.

“The title, Kind of Blues, is a reflection of the styles within the sound of the album,” Holt states. “It has a blend of blues, country, Americana, and rock and roll, tied together by contemporary blues licks.

Lil' Ed's Career An Homage To Blues Legend Uncle
By Jon Norton/WGLT
Lil' Ed Williams and his band The Blues Imperials emulate the Chicago houserockin’ style of fellow Alligator Records great Hound Dog Taylor and Lil' Ed's uncle, Delmark Records artist J.B. Hutto.Williams said he learned this houserockin’ style of slide guitar from Hutto. It's a style that fascinated him from a young age when Hutto and other relatives would play at family gatherings. He also learned the ins and outs of the music business from his uncle. And that distinctive fez he wears onstage? That too is an homage to Hutto, who sported the headwear during his live shows before he passed away in the early 1980s.“I was always trying to make them myself, but I couldn’t quite get them right,” said Williams by phone from his home in Chicago.“Usually they were too heavy or too tall. One was so heavy I could barely hold my head up,” he chuckled. “And so, when I got married, my wife started making them. She made them right.”He can’t find the fez he likes to wear in stores. ...Read full story here about Lil' Ed

Rob Paparozzi’s Juke Joint salute to Woodstock at Morristown Jazz and Blues Fest Aug 17
(MORRISTOWN, NJ) - Rob Paparozzi says that when it was suggested that he perform a 50th anniversary tribute to the Woodstock Festival at the free, all-day Morristown Jazz and Blues Festival, Aug 17, he responded: “Woodstock wasn’t really blues or jazz, per se. But I can make it work.”

The free all-day music festival on the Morristown Green Saturday Aug 17 is from noon-10pm. They will be saluting the 40th anniversary of public radio station WBGO. The music begins with the Antoinette Montague Experience followed by The Frank Vignola Trio and then at 4pm, Paparozzi's Juke Joint with their salute to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. At 6pm, it’s blues with The Bernard Allison Group followed by guitarist Davy Knowles at 8pm.

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band performed at the Aug 15-17, 1969 Woodstock Festival, for instance, and in 2014, Paparozzi and saxman/big band leader Ed Palermo collaborated on Electric Butter, an album paying tribute to both Butterfield and Electric Flag. Paparozzi, a harmonica player and singer, still plays some Butterfield songs regularly. He also fronted Blood, Sweat & Tears from 2005 to 2011; the jazz-rock band had its biggest hits in 1969 and 1970, and performed at Woodstock. ...Find more about Morristown Jazz & Blues
Texas Flood: The Inside Story of Stevie Ray Vaughan
The first definitive biography of guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan, Texas Flood: The Inside Story of Stevie Ray Vaughan by Alan Paul and Andy Aledort, features an epilogue by Jimmie Vaughan, and foreword and afterword by Double Trouble’s Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon.

Just a few years after he almost died from a severe addiction to cocaine and alcohol, a clean and sober Stevie Ray Vaughan was riding high. His last album was his most critically lauded and commercially successful. He had fulfilled a lifelong dream by collaborating with his first and greatest musical hero, his brother Jimmie. His tumultuous marriage was over, and he was in a new and healthy romantic relationship. Vaughan seemed poised for a new, limitless chapter of his life and career.

Instead, it all came to a shocking and sudden end on August 27, 1990, when he was killed in a helicopter crash following a dynamic performance with Eric Clapton. Just 35 years old, he left behind a powerful musical legacy and an endless stream of What Ifs. In the ensuing 29 years, Vaughan’s legend and acclaim have only grown and he is now an undisputed international musical icon. Despite the cinematic scope of Vaughan’s life and death, there has never been a truly proper accounting of his story. Until now.
