See you on the Blues Cruise
LRBC Crow's Nest Jam Host Michele Lundeen
Hi all... It's your Blues Festival e-Guide Editor also known as singer, the "Queen of Steam!" I'm one of the Pro-am Jamarama Hosts this coming week so if your sailing on the LRBC #33 stop in and see me at The Crow's Nest Sunday Oct 27th (8-11pm) and Friday Nov 1st (7:30-11pm). If you're a player bring your instrument and signup to jam. You never know who will showup from the many artists onboard! I have at least one very special guest appearing coming from Canada. You'll have to show up to see this award-winning artist in person!

The cruise itself is truly amazing... nothing like it! Aside from nearly non-stop bluesin' at sea, this particular cruise is sailing to Cabo San Lucas (which includes a blues party at Cabo Wabo), Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo. There's also theme nights like "Hometown Blues" where you can show off your local faves or blues society ware,  "Heroes & Villains," " Bluesin' Gear," "Dia de los Muertos" (Day of The Dead," and "Halloween." I love to dress up and so do a lot of the cruisers and it's fun and eye-opening to see what some come up with! Sure, there's food galore but meals (or snack time) also affords a chance, casual encounter with one of your favorite artists onboard!

Okay, well I have a ton to do before the pre-party Friday and sail-way on Saturday. Say "Hi" if you see me onboard and/or come jam! We are all one big blues framily!
Yours in the blues,
Michele Lundeen

Savoy Brown :: CITY NIGHT
Over 50 years of rocking the blues – Savoy Brown, with leader Kim Simmonds at the helm, return with City Night – their 40th album – released on Quarto Valley Records.

On the back of a number one Billboard blues hit in 2017, expectations are high for this new band offering. The album features Kim Simmonds on vocals and searing lead guitar, and he is complemented with the most consistent line-up in the band’s history, going strong for more than 10 years now with Pat DeSalvo on bass and Garnet Grimm on drums.

City Night is comprised of 12 high energy blues rock songs to surely please the worldwide fan base. "Walking on Hot Stones," “Payback Time," and "Don't Hang Me Out to Dry" will catch the attention of radio DJs looking for the fresh new sound Savoy Brown brings to roots music.

Savoy Brown was formed by guitarist Kim Simmonds in 1965 in London, England. Simmonds has been the group’s guiding hand from the first singles released in 1966 through the band’s newest effort, their 40th album, released in 2019.

Energetic blues has been the calling card of the band from the beginning. “Blues rock” became the catch-all phrase in the late 1960s to describe the band’s music...  ...Find more about this artist and release

Pascal Bokar Afro Blue Grazz Band Now Booking for 2020
Virtuoso guitarist/vocalist Pascal Bokar from West Africa Senegal/Mali, leads an amazing ensemble of musicians dedicated to the integration of African and African American musical traditions through the blues, melding the sounds of the banjo and the balafon, (ancestor of the xylophone), in an explosive contemporary visual and sonic expression.

Pascal Bokar is the recipient of the Jim Hall Jazz Master Award for Guitarist of the Berklee College of Music and the recipient of the Outstanding Soloist Award from Dizzy Gillespie and James Moody. His previous album, Guitar Balafonics, won Downbeat Best of 2015.

“Pascal Bokar is an incredible blues/jazz guitarist who hails originally from the Mali/Senegal region of West Africa. A dazzling, fiery combination of traditional, Delta, and West African roots music, award-winning guitarist Pascal Bokar offers a captivating and unique foray into contemporary blues with American Trails. Until next time…” Sheryl and Don Crow/Bluesblog

“The Band is Fireworks… a musical style like we have not heard before.“ - Fred Delforge/ZicaZic.com

“Pascal Bokar possesses an uncanny ability to use pizzicato and quasi-pizzicato in lead runs rarely encountered on guitar except in Al DiMeola and scant others.” - Mark Tucker/Acousticmusic.com

Carolyn Gaines, Grady Gaines, Ric Jaz Reviving The Thrill Is Gone
Photo: Carolyn Gaines and her Uncle Grady Gaines Sr. in Houston, TX

Carolyn Gaines' New CD, The Thrill Is Gone, has the up-and-coming blues singer reviving the classics but in her own her “Blue Jazzy Way.”

She welcomes guests such as guitarist Ric Jaz and saxophonists Grady Gaines Sr. and Grady Gaines Jr.

Carolyn Gaines knows the blues! She was born in the blues world. Her father is Roy Gaines, one the great guitarist-singers like B.B. King, Eric Clapton, and Buddy Guy. Carolyn is also the niece of saxophonist Grady Gaines Sr. Carolyn founded the Blues Schools programs for kids. She has developed into a powerful blues singer. Her previous recording, Beware Of My Dog, revealed her to be a highly expressive and rough-sounding vocalist in the tradition of Ma Rainey, Big Mama Thornton and Koko Taylor: while sounding very much like herself, infusing the blues into each note that she sings.

The Thrill Is Gone, released on Polka Dot Records, features Carolyn Gaines in sparse settings that perfectly fit her country blues approach. Guitarist Gino Baronelli is a strong asset throughout, including two duets with Carolyn on hit songs of Buddy Guy's ("I Got Dreams To Remember" and "Guess What").

Inaugural Lone Star Blues & Heritage Festival Oct 25-27
(GRAPELAND, TX) - Join us in Grapeland, Texas for a 3-day celebration of Texas Blues, at beautiful Salmon Lake Park Oct 25-27. From veteran artists to rising young stars, we're throwing a blues party ... East Texas style! Lineup includes Sue Foley, Benny Turner, Trudy Lynn, Keeshea Pratt Band, Peterson Brothers, Annika Chambers among others on two stages. Gates open 4pm on Friday and 10am Sat and Sun. Friday’s performances run 5pm-9:15pm, Saturday’s run 11:30am-11:30pm, and Sunday’s run 11am-3:35pm.

The piney woods of East Texas is rich with blues history of enduring legacy. Considered the Western-most region of the Deep South, it is the birthplace of artists including Blind Lemon Jefferson, Mance Lipscomb, T-Bone Walker and Lightnin' Hopkins. Leadbelly, although born just over the state line in Louisiana, moved to East Texas at the age of 5.

A younger generation of legendary Texas bluesmen including Albert Collins and Freddie King also hail from East Texas. Today, Benny Turner carries that legacy, a living link to the blues he and big brother Freddie first heard from their mother and uncles on the back porch of their Gilmer, TX home.

Join us as we celebrate the history, legacy and the future of Texas blues at the inaugural Lone Star Blues & Heritage Festival.

CAFÉ R&B, featuring vocalist "Roach" and her guitar-slinging husband Byl Carruthers have been wowing audiences throughout America, Canada, and Europe, since they were first discovered in Los Angeles by the likes of Ike Turner and Buddy Guy in the late 90's... After seeing the band at L.A.'s famed Troubadour nightclub, Ike Turner exclaimed: "I ain't seen nuthin' like that since Me and You-Know-Who!"

Buddy Guy heard about the commotion, and invited the band to his Southside Chicago club where, opening for blues legend Otis Rush, the band received a standing ovation from the sold-out crowd. They were soon recognized as a force to be reckoned with, leaving a trail of incendiary performances.
