Jamaica: Alkaline Foundation Assists Maxfield Park Home

The Alkaline Foundation donated cleaning agents and disinfectant to the Maxfield Park Children's Home recently.

The New Era Productions team, management for Alkaline, formed the foundation back in 2014 in hopes of giving back to the less fortunate.

The foundation, headed by the artiste, consists of four other members, who have been actively assisting persons in numerous capacities.

With the increase in the number of persons affected by the COVID-19 virus, the foundation responded to the needs of the Maxfield Park Children's Home.
Debbie Dunn-Ferguson, caretaker of the children's home, said, "I would like to thank the Alkaline Foundation very much. We truly appreciate the donation, which was timely and well needed, and we truly appreciate the gesture."

Alkaline's manager, Kereena Beckford, added, "While the home is presently on lockdown, the foundation understood there was a need for the products and made them readily available. This is the first step to making a difference, but we sincerely hope that all Jamaicans will pull together to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus."

With the recent postponement of the New Rules Festival, Carlton Davy, the general manager for Golden Circle Events Limited, the marketing company for the event, said "The foundation has a very active team. The postponement of the festival just gives us more time to showcase the strength of the new team surrounding the festival and the artiste."

In 2014, Alkaline, through his foundation, provided monetary support to two cancer patients.
He was quoted saying, "There is an unexplainably good feeling that comes with giving back. Over the years, I have experienced, at first hand, the joy and appreciation that assisting persons in need bring."

The hit recording “Toast” from Jamaican Grammy Award-winner Koffee is having a new round of exposure as it is featured in a mainstream television commercial in the United States. The song can be heard in a commercial for Life Water (LIFEWTR) is a premium brand of bottled water that has been a part of the PepsiCo Incorporated portfolio since 2017. The commercial will air on TV stations across the US. The LIFEWTR website states that the firm decided to feature “captivating work of some of the boldest and most transformative artists of today,” and that it is launching a new series of bottled water centered on unique aspects of art, highlighting three emerging artists, one of whom is Koffee. Reggae Music Industry Hails Bob Andy
The recent passing of elder statesman of reggae music Bob Andy has plunged the industry and legions of fans worldwide into mourning for a giant whose decades-long, storied career led to him being bestowed the title “music royalty”. A singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, and actor, Keith Anderson, as the musical ambassador was christened, has left a legacy that is unsurpassed. Outstanding among this is his ‘ Songbook’ album for Studio One, which British travel magazine Rough Guides book, ‘Reggae: 100 Essential CDs’, describes as “a masterpiece that belongs in anyone’s CD collection – and not just of reggae music”. Maxine Stowe, the niece of Studio One founder Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd, told The Sunday Gleaner that “‘ Songbook’ is a soundtrack of his character”.

Delroy Washington - Reggae Music Pioneer Dies From Coronavirus
The death of British reggae pioneer Delroy Washington, who passed away last Friday, is as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. His friend, Winston Francis, another veteran reggae singer who is also based in the United Kingdom, confirmed this to The Gleaner on Monday. He said that Washington died at the St Mary’s Hospital in London after a brief illness and that the cause of death was indeed the dreaded COVID-19.

Francis revealed that Washington had attended the repast for a member of the reggae community nearly three weeks prior and that six persons who attended that repast have since contracted the coronavirus. “It was a very big turnout, about 200 persons. I was there with my wife, my son, and his daughter. I didn’t see Delroy, but my wife did, and they spoke. Shortly after, Delroy, who was diabetic, started feeling sick and had to be hospitalised,” he shared.

The entertainer explained that when Washington was admitted, none of his friends knew because he wasn’t answering his cell phone. “We all became concerned,, and I called the police and asked them to go around his house. They did, and then called back to ask if we had checked the hospitals. At that point, my wife started calling around until we found him. Delroy told us he had been taken to hospital by ambulance, and his phone was dead, so he had asked for it to be charged, but it was never returned. My wife called the hospital and asked them to look for it and it was returned to him.”

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn't, like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.

It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows.
