First, let me thank Larry Denenberg for all the work he did with his request app.  It worked well and it was very helpful.  Kol Hakavod, Larry.

Now, Chicago Israeli Dancing is piloting a new app for making Israeli Dance requests, courtesy of David Karger You don't need to download anything.  All you have to do is follow the link below.  Go ahead and enter your requests for this week's October29th session. We will try to incorporate some into this week's playlist.

It would help us if you would enter your requests a couple of days before the session, but we'll be monitoring them all the time.  Here is the link:  David Karger's Request App

Chicago Israeli Dancing - Virtual (Local)

The Tuesday night session under the leadership of Penny Brichta has expanded to 3 segments.  Starting at 6:30, Penny teaches Beginner Basics, aimed at newer dancers and those who want more instruction.  The goal is for dancers to more easily transition to Beginners and More which runs from 7-8.  During Beginners and More, Penny teaches as well as calls steps from dances previously introduced in the session.  From 8 until 9, the Chicago Virtual Local Team takes over with one teach of a more advanced dance followed by dancing led by the local team.

Zachor - The Holocaust Memory Project
posting this on behalf of Jerry Kaye...

Zachor: The Holocaust Memory Project's focus is to create a photographic traveling exhibit available to organizations and institutions with an interest in exploring the history of the Holocaust and transforming the future by combating hatred and prejudice wherever it may arise.

As Jewish photographers, we are creating a visual representation of those whose history will not survive many generations, as a way of giving back to the Jewish Community.  We believe that it is important to lay this down for the future to be shared with coming generations and that these portraits can be a powerful instrument to carry yesterday to tomorrow.

Zachor: The Holocaust Memory Project, is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

The project is staffed 100% by volunteers.

March 13-14 2021 - Israeli Folk Dance Festival of Boston

Dear members of the Rikud community,

As you have probably guessed, the 2021 Israel Folkdance Festival of Boston will not happen in its normal format this year.  However, we plan to host events on Festival weekend (Saturday night March 13th and Sunday afternoon March 14th 2021) and are excited to invite you to participate in a virtual performance on Saturday evening!  You can join us from anywhere and dance in as many pieces as appropriate.

Here's how it will work: choreographers from years past are reviving pieces for 3 different age groups:

Kid and Loving Adult - Siba LeMesiba choreographed by Nomie Bental and Eliana Wachs-Cashman

Elementary/Middle School - LaUf choreographed by Ellen Berkowitz

High School - Adults - Hora Meshulevet  choreographed by Alexis Maharam

How do you participate?

- Fill out this form to let us know you'd like to participate and in which dances you'd like to dance.

- The choreographer will reach out to you with teaching videos for your chosen piece, and will let you know about the Zoom rehearsal schedule.

- You'll learn the dance from the teaching videos and Zoom rehearsals.  Then you'll record yourself dancing the piece.  We'll provide instructions later about how to send your video in for a video editor to create a whole "performance".

- Deadlines for sending your video will be around January 20th for the first half of the piece and February 10th for the end. You will receive final details after you sign up

Confused?
See here for an example of the end product.

You must sign up by January 5th, 2021 in order to participate so please fill out this form ASAP and tell all your friends to dance with us as well!!  Anyone can dance - wherever they are in the world.  We look forward to dancing with you!!

Other things are cooking for Festival weekend so save the date and stay tuned by following us on Facebook, visiting our website (bostonfestival.org), and  watching your inbox!

We can't wait to dance with you,

The Israel Folkdance Festival of Boston Coordinating Committee, Nomie Bental, and Ellen Berkowitz

THE EXPERIENCE
We'll take schmooze breaks between segments.  And we'll also try getting to requests as well.
A few reminders:
  •  mute yourself when you are not talking.
  • open the chat window as soon as you get in the room so you can reach out publicly and/or privately. And enable yourself for closed captioning.  We post the dances being played both in CC and the chat...
  • please please please open your video if at all possible.  So much of this whole endeavor is about community and being togethe Even if you don't dance, it is way better when we can all see each other.
