Kingston, Jamaica: Downsound Books launches with the release of ‘Reggae My Life Is’
|
Reggae Sumfest boss Joe Bogdanovich is launching his new publishing company Downsound Books on a high note with the Spring 2021 release of “Reggae My Life Is”, the memoirs of veteran booking agent, artist manager, tour manager and Reggae Historian Copeland Forbes.
Copeland Forbes is considered one of the most consequential figures in the history of modern Jamaican music. Throughout his 50-plus year career as a manager and tour manager for some of the most iconic personalities in music, including Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff, Forbes has been a witness to and a participant in some of the most groundbreaking moments in Jamaica’s entertainment history.
Discussing the launch of Downsound Books and his decision to publish “Reggae My Life Is”, Bogdanovich noted, “I decided to establish this company over a year ago. Downsound is in the business of content delivery and investing in a book publishing operation is consistent with that strategic objective. Book publishing is largely about storytelling which has enormous commercial and cultural implications. We have always been fascinated with the promotion of Jamaican culture and we see this venture as another way of achieving this objective.”
The launch of the publishing company forms part of Downsound’s overall expansion strategy which is geared towards the promotion of Jamaica’s culture and the growth of the local entertainment industry. Expected to be one of the most insightful literary forays into Jamaican music culture, the much-anticipated Reggae My Life Is will give readers a unique view into experiences with icons like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Dennis Brown, Jimmy Cliff, Bunny Wailer, Rita Marley, Gregory Issacs, Chris Blackwell, Mick Jagger, Luciano, Black Uhuru, Marcia Griffiths, Third World and so many more.
Bogdanovich concluded, “We will be concentrating on telling great Jamaican stories in entertainment. There are some amazing stories and our first release will be “Reggae My Life Is” which is a look at the Jamaican music industry over the last fifty years through the eyes of the ultimate insider Copeland Forbes. Furthermore, the project will employ several persons in the areas of marketing, collating, editing and writing.”
About Joe Bogdanovich Joe Bogdanovich is a prominent businessman with decades of experience in the Jamaican and international entertainment industries. He is best known for his role as CEO of Downsound Entertainment, the promoter of the world-famous Reggae Sumfest music festival, and proprietor of the R Hotel Kingston and the recently launched District 5 restaurant and bar.

New Single from Vibrance The Arts Recording Label from St. Croix - ANCHANTS
|
Straight outta St.Croix, US Virgin Islands, Reggae Artist Anchants new track “Chatty” is out now ...Check it out!
Vibrance The Arts presents an alternative to the norm, as far as Roots music is concerned. The single, "Chatty", by Anchants, features live instruments on the "Chat Bout Riddim". A sticky, up-tempo Roots dub, that moves you from the very beginning. "Chatty" covers a wide array of topics. Serving as a guide to remain steadfast in the right, in a world of calamity, with the opening lines... "Youth man on the streets don't you sell no guns". A reminder of the importance of incorporating the Feminine principles, as he states..."ah she", simply put. Cosmological alignment, the awareness of Self and one's role in these times...
"It's not that I be, it's just the fact that Be happens to be." Much insight is offered with these lyrics. Ultimately, Anchants "Chatty" is one for the books. A good sound, good message, a good feeling, not just chatty.

Prince Negasi EP JAH OVAH EVIL
|
Meet Prince Negasi — a Reggae Singer, Musician and Producer out of Portmore, Jamaica. His band Souls of Zion is comprised of young generation Roots Reggae musicians that keep the fires burning, spreading "Word Sound & Power" with The teachings of His Majesty Emperor Hailie Selassie I.
His performances include: 2015 Jamaican Independence Day concert, opening the show for Sizzla & Half Pint. Later that year he shared the stage with Dancehall Artist Kranium. In 2018 the band opened for Kabaka Pyramid and The Late Ones in New Haven, CT. Over the summer of 2019, Prince Negasi toured the northeast from Brooklyn, NY to Canada opening for major acts such as Akae Beka, Iba Mahr and Roots of Creation & many more. Started 2020 onstage with high energy at Sound DJ Alarm Music Festival in Linstead, Jamaica.
He then was featured with Denroy Morgan on The Petition Launch Tour supporting a worldwide annual recognition of the Coronation Day of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie JAH Rastafari & Empress Menen. Upon his return he appeared with I Anbassa & Queen Adessa on the Power of Reggae with our beloved ascended Father German.
The strangest times have come upon us — the seed of JAH OVAH EVIL was taking shape with Prince Negasi and his band the Souls of Zion.
Track List 1) Zionites 2) River Jordan 3) JAH Children Come 4) Be Wise 5) Holding Firm
These artists are a set of men who have been working on manifesting the specific Word Sound that was given to Prince Negasi. This particular brand of reggae is the same one that put reggae on the map and spreads the message of One Love and showcases the most important biblical and historical event of our time, namely the Coronation of King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, as prophesied.
Over the summer of 2020, Prince was featured alongside Greg Roy with Satta Sound at the controls.
Songs on the upcoming JAH OVAH EVIL were then featured at another benchmark show for Souls of Zion in downtown Hartford at CT. Peace Fest alongside Zuggu.
The Souls of Zion then hit the studio boot-camp style. The result is a band of proficient musicians who now can unite to produce and play any music and most importantly the EP that sets the signature sound that Prince Negasi has been working towards as an artist — he is musically and lyrically determined to fulfill the mission that JAH has given him.
Stay tuned for the singles, videos, follow-up album and more teachings in various media and linguistics.

Today, history was made. Today, Kamala Harris of Jamaican and Indian descent became the first female, Black, and South Asian vice president of the United States of America. It's a moment more than worthy of all of the articles, retweets, and phrasal repetitions. It's a win that was hard fought, both for Vice President Harris and for American democracy.

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn't, like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.
It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows.
