Exciting things are happening at ACCOIN
It's summer! One of the four best seasons of the year! We live in a magical place for seasons and all they have to offer. We hope you have a beautiful summer and fill it with moments of joy. A lot is going on these next few months. So grab your sunscreen and ready, set, go!  https://www.acco.org/inlandnw/

Meet Maile Aden

Maile is our newest board member to ACCOIN .
Maile lives in the Spokane area with her husband and their four children. Born & raised in Hawaii and living in the Pacific Northwest, Maile enjoys the ocean, rivers, lakes & mountains! Running, skiing, camping, rafting, "going to the beach," & surfing are favorite family activities.

Maile attended Whitworth University, receiving a B.A. in Elementary Education and an M.Ed. in School Administration. She worked for 17 years in the Mead and Spokane Public School Districts as an elementary school teacher, principal assistant & principal. Maile also served as the Director of Curriculum & Instruction for MCA in Taiwan. Currently, Maile's primary focus is her family, their home & the plethora of activities in which they are all involved.

On Friday, March 10th, 2017, Maile took their youngest, Alexandra, to Sacred Heart ER; four hours later, and three weeks before her 7th birthday, Alex was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Since that overwhelmingly memorable & emotionally draining day, many blessings have emerged! ACCOIN has been a huge blessing throughout their family's journey! Alex completed 2 1/2 years of treatment in July 2019 & remains cancer-free!

Maile's family finds hope in Jeremiah 29:11 as well as inspiration from Bethany Hamilton, Alex's UNSTOPPABLE hero, "I don't need easy, I just need possible."

Welcome Maile! We are honored to have you "on board"!
A Sweet Hero Story
This is the healthiest summer of your life. Your first summer was filled with infections, fatigue, fevers and unexplained bruising that ultimately led to a diagnosis of leukemia. Your second summer was spent in daily clinic visits 5 hours from your home to monitor your health during CAR-T cell therapy, because traditional chemo didn't work.
You spent that same summer preparing to have your immune system knocked down to nothing. Your third summer was spent at the hospital fighting for your life due to complications that landed you in PICU and took away your strength to walk. Your fourth summer was spent hooked to a feeding tube & fluids.
You couldn't do much because you still weren't walking (albeit trying) and your bones were brittle and achy from 2 years of steroids.
AND NOW: your 5th summer. You have no tubies,. Your body is yours. YOU ARE RUNNING! You opted for a short haircut, with my scissors and not from chemo. You have gone swimming for the first time. You are eating real food and only seeing your oncologist twice a month, just to check up on your skin. You're potty trained. You're anticipating preschool in the fall. You are stronger. You are getting ready to start tapering off the rest of your meds. You are playing with new friends. YOU ARE GROWING!
YOU ARE BEAMING!
YOU ARE THRIVING!
Thank you. Thank you for being here, sweet daughter of mine.

Such a beautiful story of strength and joy.
Thank you for letting us share in this moment.

We are thrilled to roll out our new opportunity to donate link!

This gives the option of becoming a monthly partner or to make a one time donation.

We are grateful for your support of this important mission.

We also have ROUND UP options!

Round up is when you designate the remaining change from purchase to go to ACCOIN. Say your purchase is $17.50, your card will show a purchase of $18, and that .50 will come to ACCOIN. It is a simple way to give. (and it makes balancing the checkbook easier as well... no fussy change to deal with!)

Oh but WAIT!!
There's more!
Camp Journey is a camp providing a community of hope for children and their families touched by cancer. Dealing with childhood cancer can sometimes make "just being a kid" seem out of reach—and out of scope for the whole family. At Camp Journey, our goal is to change that perception and that reality. In this nurturing, medically supervised home-away-from-home, young cancer survivors can leave their worries behind for one magical week and immerse themselves in a fun-filled outdoor camp experience tailored expressly to their needs. Meanwhile, their families and caregivers can rest easy, knowing that trained oncology staff is on-site 24/7. With roots dating to 1985, Camp Journey is a no-cost resident and day camp for children diagnosed with cancer, both on and off therapy.

Courage  doesn't always roar.
Sometimes courage is that little voice at the end of a really hard day that says:
I will try again tomorrow.

Light the Way Home Hosts!
"Home Host Package" for a $500 contribution, you will receive:
A selection of scrumptious Desserts and Wine for eight guests as well as 25 luminarias to decorate your walkway. A luminaria will be placed in a child's room at the hospital in your name to show your compassion.
You will also be sent a link to the program. That link is pretty exciting as it will have a virtual table for friends and family to attend. So while you host a small at-home event, you can literally invite connections from all over the world to join you at your virtual table. When you /they sign in, there will be a table waiting for you all to visit and connect. About 20 minutes in, you'll be pulled out into the program to meet families and medical providers and hear their stories. After the program, you will drop back into your table to visit and share how contributions to ACCOIN will stay locally to serve these incredible kids and their families. After about 20 minutes, you'll bid a fond Au revior, and the session will end.

For $75 an individual and purchase a single ticket which provides:
  • A sampling of the desserts.
  • One bottle of wine.
  • Five luminaria for your walkway and one that will be placed in a child's room at the hospital to show your compassion.
This purchase also brings you into the program and will place you on a table with other individual purchasers and follow the same program process as listed above.
Follow this link to register as a home host or buy an individual ticket.
