San Francisco is rolling out a pilot program that will pay high-risk individuals to not shoot anyone as gun crimes tick up in the city. "These small investments can transform the lives of individuals, but they can also transform communities," Sheryl Davis, executive director of the Human Rights Commission, told Newsweek. The Dream Keeper Fellowship will pay 10 individuals who are at high risk of being on either end of a shooting $300 each month to not be involved in such crimes.

Football Season
Don Meredith, Dallas Cowboys Quarterback once said: "Coach Tom Landry is such a perfectionist that if he was married to Raquel Welch, he would expect her to cook."

Walt Garrison, Dallas Cowboys fullback when asked if Tom Landry ever smiles: "I don't know. I only played there for nine years."

John Breen, Houston Oilers: "We were tipping off our plays. Whenever we broke from the huddle, three backs were laughing and one was pale as a ghost."

Bum Phillips, New Orleans Saints, after viewing a lopsided loss to the Atlanta Falcons: "The film looks suspiciously like the game itself."

Paul Horning, Green Bay Packers running back on why his marriage ceremony was before noon: "Because if it didn't work out, I didn't want to blow the whole day."

Lou Holtz , Arkansas football coach: "I have a lifetime contract. That means I can't be fired during the third quarter if we're ahead and moving the ball."

George MacIntyre, Vanderbilt football coach surveying the team roster that included 26 freshmen and 25 sophomores: "Our biggest concern this season will be diaper rash."

Dear Mr. Weiler, Ebay does allow you to request combined shipping, but unless you do that our shipping department (Abby) doesn’t know you paid shipping twice. We are sorry for that error and we can refund your extra shipping. Regarding shipping damage, we walk a fine line between adding more weight of packing material to protect the package and raising the shipping charges. We regret your package was damaged by the postal people.   little yWhat happened to your package as far as you can see? If the Tobins are damaged we’ll send you replacements. Based on this new information would you please agree to change your feedback to positive because neutrals hurt us? I can send you a feedback revision request if you agree.

Ref:
Dear cornellpubs, I did not request combined shipping because I did not want it nor was I given the option (Ebay does give that option-ed). I wanted them shipped separately as I ordered them separately (15 minutes apart-ed), so blaming Abby myself and the postal carrier are all excuses. Feel free to replace both items in the manner I ordered them and I may consider changing my feedback. Until then my comments are an accurate assessment of my experience. Thank you Matt Weiler -willy_d_420 (Ebay)

It turned out the items were not damaged only the packaging (that is the purpose of packaging, to absorb the wrath of the post office). Anyway, eBay in a burst of compassion removed his neutral for us. Rob

Letters From Readers

Arthur, Shipping outside the U.S. is a major issue right now. Many countries require us to collect their Duty and VAT taxes which requires much more paperwork than we can consider doing, furthermore the licenses to even collect the fees are a rats nest to negotiate and they are all different. We appear to be exempt from UK fees but cannot penetrate the armour to get the exemption.

Also, shipping overseas has become a real problem due to spotty delivery and long shipping times, months at times, despite the expense. Speaking of expense, tracking isn’t available to most places for any reasonable amount of shipping cost. So, people complain to their credit card folks who refund their money and debit us. We end up out of pocket even if the package is eventually delivered. We just can't do business that way. All things considered we don't know if or when we can ship overseas, sorry. Cheers, Rob

Hello, Do you have any parts lists, exploded diagrams , field stripe data etc on the Savage model 29 pump action .22 cal rifle? It would have been made before the 29A so it is a quite old version. Thank you, Ronald D. Drynan, Sr.

Ronald, No, I'm sorry, the 29 was made in the 1930s before so-called exploded parts views came into fashion after WWII. Savage never updated their diagrams from the flat view so even the M29A in theSavage, Stevens, Fox 1972 Component Parts Catalog- Manual was a flat plan which implies that many of the parts are interchangeable. By 1980 they had dropped the 29 and 29A from the parts book in favor of the 170 and 174, 170 C&B. Abby

Hello, earlier this year I got a book from you by author Truman Henson. The title was Sporting Rifles and Scope Sights, How to build them. If possible, I would like to get another copy, but reproduced in 8 1/2 X 11 size, without binding so I could hole punch and place in a three ring.  Following this revised set up, I can leave pages open as I work away on especially a scope. Is this request feasible/possible?? Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Sincerely, Steven

Steven,  The copy you bought earlier should have been printed 8 1/2 x 11 and bound with adhesive heat activated tape. If I understand correctly, what you want is a book that can lay flat. Actually the one you have can do that, just bend the binding at the page you want and it will stay flat without damaging the pages. Do you want to try that before buying another copy? Please let me know. Cheers, Rob

(Our copy was actually the original size, which was a bit smaller (he was right) we made an enlarged version for him for an additional charge)

Rob and Abby, As one of your UK fans... Regret to inform you that Tony Norton passed away recently. He had a Great Collection. I will miss going to his house for a cup of tea and a chat. Rgds, D.C.Clegg

Abby and I will miss Tony as well. We never met in person but he was a delightful email friend and a cherished, long- time customer. Rob

Dear Mr. Mahipal, I wondered why you gave us a negative on ebay then saw that our candyprint file is set to half page ruining the copy we sent you, a mistake that has existed since we listed the book in 2007! Fortunately, none have sold, yours is the first. I'm printing you a correct version and will post it tomorrow. I hope you will be pleased with the result and will allow me to send you a feedback revision based on the result. I am sorry for our mistake. Cheers, Rob Mouat

I did and Mr. Mahipal was kind enough to change his negative to positive. Accidents happen and all a customer has to do is let us know and we will fix the problem, to start with giving negative feedback is an unnecessary and too aggressive first step that takes some doing to unwind on both sides.

Good Morning, Does your reprint of the Smith & Wesson Model 17 K-22 Masterpiece Revolver Manual cover the 1947 model with the one line text on the right hand side of the frame under the cylinder? I just purchased such a pistol and am looking for the appropriate owner's manual. Thanks, Jim Martin

Jim, The exploded parts view of the right side shows what appear to be several lines of text beneath the cylinder. Does that help? On the other hand, these are pretty cheap. Rob

Hey good folks. Walter Bunning of Santa Maria, Ca here. I just received several of yourpicture show reloading books and have to say I’m thrilled. I’. An active, avid bullet caste, reloader and collector of associated legacy equipment and had direct need for some of the information found in those old manuals. I found them to be fine reproductions and of high value to me. I hole you don’t mind, but I featured these books and your company on a recent video on my YouTube channel. I hope this does not violate your company policy. If so, please let me know. Best regards, Walter “El Viejo” Bunning

Hi Walter, That was a wonderful video piece you did for us and Abby and I thank you (even if the Ideals are a pain to make with the trimming!) We have worked to preserve old gun catalogs and manuals for 20 years during our retirement and now offer over 6000 selections from our website and your help is certainly appreciated.

By the way, you said you were a bit concerned about the bindings on our publications (we've had loads of other complaints, some quite funny- see our rants and raves page). Actually, we have never had a complaint about a failed binding and, like the comb binding, you can open the book flat. We use a heat machine to secure the binding and I'm sure it won't give you a bit of trouble.

Notably, Doug Elliott, from Philo, California, and Tom Quigley helped us secure originals and photocopies to add to our collection and we are grateful to them for their help, although we are not adding material now.

Thanks again for your support, Cheers, Rob

Dear Cornell Publications, I went thru the contents of your reprint-able old reloading manuals and was unable to find what I was looking for in one book. I am looking for: 22 K Hornet, 22-250 Ackley Improved, 243 Ackley Improved. I have these three rifles and have a devil of a time finding published loads for them (loads by individuals published on the web are always suspicious). I got one load for the k hornet in an old Speer manual and a 243 AI load in Nosler #9. But it would be great to find a compendium of the above. The Ackley Improveds, (40 degree shoulder) are the most important, I did find a load for the k hornet in the old Speer manual I have. Can you help me? Brian Berenbach

Hi Brian, Sure, we can help, all three are listed with loads in the Ackley book:

Dear Mr. Carboy, I just realized I screwed up you order and you may get the wrong package in the mail. I've printed you a new set of Stevens catalogs and will get them out right away. Meanwhile, if you get the wrong set please please just toss or keep them. Don't send them back or forward them because I've already sent replacements. I'm very sorry for my error, Cheers, Rob

Catalogs arrived in great shape.  Thank you for the extra one. Tom Carboy

Abby,  Thank You for this month's newsletter.  Frankly I AM amazed that the 2 of You have maintained your Sanity after listening to the litany of complaints after all these years. You Folks put out an Excellent Product, bypassing the limitations of the originals is remarkable.  I just wish I could afford to buy copies of everything you folks put together. Keep up the Great Work, Rog Schendel

Ref: Winchester 1960 Sporting Arms and Ammunition CatalogHello; Please tell me if the Winchester and Western catalog contains information on the Winchester Model 77, .22LR, self-loading rifle. Thank you very much, Richard

Hi Richard, Yes, this catalog devotes a page to the M77. Cheers, Rob

Forehand Ref: Forehand Arms Company, An Illustrated History of the , I see serial number information is listed as one of the chapters. Does this book have specific serial numbers listed with corresponding dates of manufacturing. Please let me know, thank you Mark.(ebay)

Hi Mark, No, Vorisek makes an attempt to identify possible serial number ranges associated with the various companies that made ranges of weapons. So, yours is not a question that can be answered simply. If you are looking for an absolutely correct date or a specific date for a specific weapon then no this won't help. Abby for Cornell Publications

Ref: Browning 1942 M1919A4 MG Illustrated Parts List (UK)- Manual . Does this publication have dimensions included? Thanks, Gladys Reed ladygunfighter8674 (ebay)

Hi Gladys, No, it is strictly a parts "book", not a machinist blueprint type publication. Sorry, Abby

You sent me someone else's order. Abby,  They're nice but I have no use for them. What do I do with these? Ed Murphy

Hi Ed, My fault, I mixed them up. I'll print you a new one right away and get it out to you, so sorry. Please just keep or toss the Winchesters, I'm sending him new ones too. Apologies, Rob

  then...
Dear Mr. Mahoney, I screwed up and sent your order for the two Winchesters to someone else, I'm sorry. To fix it I'm printing you new ones right now and will get them out right away. I told the other fellow to just keep or toss the ones he got. That way we'll solve the problem much quicker, and again, I apologize. If you get Ed Murphy's, same thing, just keep or toss them. Cheers, Rob

Sir, I have my Great Grand Fathers Ansley H. Fox A Grade 12ga. Dbl. I have a letter from Fox Gun dated 1911 that states this gun was purchased for $37.50 in 1907. Serial no. 2303. the gun is a family Heirloom. It has been passed down from generation to generation. It is now in my possession. I have contacted the Fox Collectors Club. I want it to  go where it is appreciated for what it is. Along with a set of barrel  tag's provided by Fox in 1911. The gun is in great condition. It is very tight with all the engraving intact some as to be expected wear on the checkering! I am trying to find the value of it with the paperwork and barrel tag's. If you can be of any assistance I would greatly appreciate it. I know you would have to see it to really appreciate it's timeless grace. It fed my family thru the Depression. It has been cared for well! I hate to sell it but I have no children to pass it on to! Any help or advise please contact me,  Edward

Edward, There are several gun value guides available online to buy. Just google "gun price guide". Here are some of them, but remember the sentimental value to you is always going to be greater to you than a buyer of a used gun. You can also look at gunbroker.com to see what people are asking for their guns (remember ask is not sold). Hope this helps. Rob

Thanks Rob, Your right it's a family gun. It fed them thru the depression. A lot of history. My problem is I never had any kids! It means more to me than a buyer! I had one collector tell me the paperwork is worth as much as the gun? Whatever I want to sell a 50yr. collection! I have a couple of auction houses that want to list them! For what they are asking I can do myself! I thought you would be interested in the letters for your publications?

Cheers,
Rob and Abby
