From Our IEN Family To You and Your Family,
All of us at IEN send our prayers and healing thoughts during this sacred time of year to all our relatives, human and non-human, for health, safety, prosperity and peace. Our gratitude goes out to everyone who has, in more ways then we can count, supported the work we do for All Mother Earth's Children  - everything from sharing our social media posts, actions and attending webinars and presentations, and your donations throughout the year. Your support means everything to the people in the communities who are standing strong against some of the richest and powerful fossil fuel and mining corporations in the world.

It doesn't seem possible that another year has come and gone - 2021 was a whirlwind of movement building within our Indigenous communities and nations. Today, our networks are stronger and we're building bridges that seemed impossible not too long ago. Our partners, networks, alliances, old and new, have grown stronger in our commitments to a rapid and focused Indigenous Just Transition for all - grounded in the knowledge we are all connected. To strengthen and focus our work where it is needed the most, we were one of the organizations that helped to draft the THRIVE AGENDA (view #THRIVE4NDNCountry) and the United Frontline Table's People's Orientation to a Regenerative Economy. We were co-authors of the latest edition of Banking on Climate Chaos. IEN helps to lead the movement to bring awareness to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women actions and education outreach to stop the abuses and situations that have caused so many of our youth, sister's and Two-Spirit deaths.

Our IEN family grew this year too as we welcomed several new people who have the skills and energy to meet the social, economic, environmental and climate justice challenges of a planet in crisis.

As we continue into 2022 we will build upon the positive changes and maintain the forward momentum for building strong coalitions to meet our shared goals.

We offer a brief look back at 2021, to include introductions to new staff and a sad but joyful departure. It would be impossible to include everything that happened these past 12 months - so below are a few of the many highlights - links to our direct actions, publications, webinar presentations, policy advocacy work, and a glimpse into the focus of our work in 2022. For all the news, current events, and more we invite you to visit our website.

Build Back Fossil Free
WEEK OF ACTION - Washington D.C.

Washington, D.C. – 140 organizations sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Ron Wyden, Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, and Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, urging them to remove a slew of expenditures and tax subsidies in the Build Back Better Act (H.R. 5376) that would incentivize dirty energy sources and technologies that will harm communities and prolong a fossil fuel-based economy. Signatories to the letter include the Climate Justice Alliance, Grassroots Global Justice Alliance, Indigenous Environmental Network, Right to the City Alliance, People’s Action, Greenpeace USA, Food & Water Watch, the Center for Biological Diversity, Oil Change U.S. and more. Examining Climate-False Corporate Schemes:

THE FIGHT TO STOP LINE 3
"From the belly of the beast north of the medicine line to the rice beds that sustain the lifeways of the Anishinaabe all the way down to our relatives impacted in the Bayous - we will continue to fight for the natural and spiritual knowledge of the Earth. We will continue to fight and care for one another and our Mother because she has always taken care of us."
We will miss you Bineshi

UNFCCC COP26

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

“Any COP26 climate pledges presented by the Biden administration will ring hollow if the President doesn’t stop major projects like the Line 3 tar sands pipeline, oil drilling in the Arctic, fossil fuel exports, and continues to allow drilling, mining and fracking to continue on Native and public lands.”

Ongoing 2022
Our Work Will Continue...
As we look back, at the same time we're looking forward to the many issues and systemic changes that must be made to stop and reverse the damage from an out of control extractive economic mind-set. We can not continue to take more from Mother Earth than what we give back. Presently, 80% of the world's natural resources are either at or very near the end of their availability. Corporations are looking now at transforming the natural world through the commodification of nature, through techno-fixes like genetic engineering and geoengineering to artificially cool a warming planet, sequester carbon and to further exploit forests, trees and plants for raw materials. These and many more are Neo-liberal false solutions that will not work as promised and will cause more damage and push us even faster to the point of no return.

To date, we have been blessed beyond what we could have ever hoped for over 30 years ago. Year after year your continued support has helped to grow the movements, provided tools and training for communities to take control of their future - to fight the exploiters, grow local power, and ensure their rights of self-determination.

The transformation that we fight for and build toward every day as Indigenous peoples is to protect the sacredness of Mother Earth from the consolidation of power and wealth for ownership and control of life and from contamination and exploitation. This will require a massive transfer of wealth, through a system that doesn't violate the water, the land and our bodies, and transitions away from an extractive economy to a living and regenerative economy. Your generous donations have helped meet our needs in more ways then we can count.

If you haven't yet, there's still time to make a tax deductible donation here. And there are other ways you can support us - find out more here.

You can find a lot more information and news from 2021 and years past on our website. If you, like many of us, use social media - you can find us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter - our media team posts articles, events, and announcements daily - so Like or Friend us if you haven't yet to get the latest posts in your news feeds. And if you received this email from a friend or family member please subscribe to our newsletters or you can share this too using the links in the footer.

We'll end now with a few additional links to learn more about what this administration is doing or NOT doing - rest assured we will be addressing these and other issues affecting us all in 2022.

May you and your loved ones be well and safe!
