Hi everyone.
Hi Everyone. A very fun mini Valentine's Day party session last week. Thanks for coming, thanks to Hillary for the inspiration/goodies and thanks to everyone else who brought stuff! And looking forward to seeing you at this week's Monthly Birthday Party!
A couple of special things for you this week:
First, this week will be our monthly party where we celebrate the birthday babies! Feel bring to bring stuff to augment what I bring. π And second, we are very happy to tell you that our friend, La Mona Myr from Uruguay, will review her new dance, Ma Hi Emuna, for the group via zoom (technology permitting). It was lots of fun last week. Look for this to take place around 8:30PM Chicago time, 11:30 Punta Del Este time. Looking forward to it. See below for the youtube link to the dance.
Nehama, thanks for demoing last week!
Chicago Israeli Dancing was well represented at Camp Shelanu this past weekend by these happy ladies:
And speaking of Camp Shelanu, first off, congrats and Kol Hakavod to Orly and Jason and the staff for what sounds like it was a great camp! And next, Kol Hakavod to Orly for creating and presenting a dance called Baraye. In her own words: "I was born in Israel in 1979 because my parents escaped the last revolution in Iran. Today another revolution is happening in Iran, but this time it is led by women and it is a revolution for freedom. As an Israeli, American, Persian Jewish choreographer, I am proud to represent the Jewish Persians, women and everyone in the world who craves basic human rights. I am excited to introduce this Israeli dance I choreographed called βBarayeβ to the self titled Grammy award winning song for social change, by Shervin Hajipour. I will be teaching it for the 1st time this weekend @ Camp SheLAnu 2023.
People in Iran are sentenced to years in prison for the mere self expression of dancing in public. The creation of this song followed the death of βMasha Aminiβ A woman who was severely beaten in the head and put into a coma by the Islamic Republic of Iranβs βmorality policeβ for not fully covering her hair with her hijab. She died in the hospital. This song is a compilation of tweets by Iranians for why they are currently protesting the Iranian regime- Song composed and sung by Shervin Hajipour who was arrested & tortured for producing this song and then released - most likely due to international pressure from this song going viral. This has become the anthem for freedom and song of the 2022-23 Iranian revolution. It won a Grammy this month for best song for social change

Corazon Zoom - We plan to continue to broadcast on zoom as long as people want to join and support us. From time to time we will have guest leaders do some short sets sprinkled in. We are also able to have remote people show up on the big screen in our room! We hope to maintain the wonderful connections we have made over the past years to the extent we can. This is a work in progress. We'll see where it goes. For now expect mostly a broadcast with some interactivity too if we can.
If you would like to help support CID Virtual financially, you can use PayPal Direct Paypal Link or Chase Quickpay (Zelle) (philip_b_moss@hotmail.com) or Venmo (PhilipBMoss - phone last 4: 8669). Zoomers, we need your support to keep this going. Thanks so much to those of you who have helped.
