REGGAE ON THE RIVER OFFERS SPECIAL DEAL FOR SIERRA NEVADA WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL TICKET HOLDERS
In a display of unity and generosity, Reggae on the River (ROTR), a world-renowned reggae festival in Humboldt County, has stepped up to support the patrons of the cancelled Sierra Nevada World Music Festival (SNWMF). Recognizing the disappointment and financial strain faced by SNWMF ticket holders, ROTR has extended a special offer to sell general admission tickets for the significantly reduced price of just $49, which covers an impact fee.

This offer provides SNWMF ticket holders with general admission and general admission camping at ROTR, which takes place from August 2nd through 4th, a significant discount from the original GA pass price of $299 plus a booking fee. However, those who require a parking pass will need to purchase it separately.
Pleasure Strange, President of the Mateel Board, the organizer of ROTR, expressed the board’s decision to extend this reduced ticket price to SNWMF ticket holders as a gesture of solidarity among reggae music lovers. This decision comes in light of the beloved SNWMF’s cancellation and its subsequent announcement that they do not have sufficient funds to reimburse ticket buyers.

Though some SNWMF ticketholders may have also purchased regularly priced ROTR tickets, the ROTR tickets are non-refundable. Strange said those that have tickets to both events can still take advantage of the exchange offer and suggested gifting their ticket to friends or family.
SNWMF ticket holders should have received an email with a link to register their tickets for ROTR by 5 p.m. on July 19. After registration closes, those who choose to take advantage of the ROTR offer will be contacted by a ROTR representative with payment options.
In the initial email to SNWMF ticket holders, it was explained that due to the unavoidable cancellation and subsequent financial difficulties, the festival would not be able to reimburse ticket buyers. Pre-show income from ticket sales and paid costs such as artist advances, airfares, operational deposits, insurance, and other fees were non-recoupable, leaving SNWMF without sufficient funds.

ROTR’s offer includes the exchange of SNWMF 2024 3-Day music tickets for 3-Day ROTR 2024 music tickets, which include camping with a 10×10 non-vehicle camp space along the river. For those with SNWMF 2024 1-Day music tickets, these can be exchanged for either a ROTR 2024 one-day Saturday or one-day Sunday music ticket. ROTR does not offer Friday-only tickets.

Despite the $49 site impact fee for each ticket exchange, this offer represents a significant saving and an opportunity for SNWMF ticket holders to experience another vibrant and celebrated reggae festival. It is important to note that VIP, RV passes, and all car camping passes have sold out. ROTR is also sold out of on-site vehicle camping, but on-site vehicle parking remains available.
SNWMF expressed gratitude to ROTR for their generosity and support, allowing SNWMF ticket holders to experience what promises to be a beautiful resurgence of the festival spirit enjoyed for years.

For further details and to register tickets, SNWMF ticket holders should refer to the email sent by SNWMF and complete the registration process by the stated deadline. For any additional information, SNWMF ticket holders can contact SNWMF staff at info@snwmf.com.

Currently, he resides in Hanover, where he has established his own recording studio, a testament to his dedication and passion for music.Coming from a family of devout Rastafarians, Raphi was exposed to the enchanting sounds of Nyabinghi at a young age.

It was during these gatherings that he discovered his deep love for music and began nurturing his singing talent alongside his siblings.Growing up in the face of adversity and the daily challenges life presented, Raphi found solace in music. Glen Washington  -  Feeling Irie - NEW RELEASE Coming out on Friday, June 19
As an aspiring musician in his native Clarendon parish, Jamaica, Glen Washington listened to songs that helped guide his career as a drummer and singer. He has never forgotten those timeless melodies, many of them from the studio of Treasure Isle, one of the greatest labels in reggae history.

Washington revisits some of those hallowed rhythms for Feeling Irie, his latest album, scheduled for release in July on LTK20 Recordz. The set is produced by Willie Lindo, who has guided A-list singers such as Dennis Brown (Inseparable, Since I've Been Loving You), Beres Hammond (What One Dance Can Do) and Boris Gardiner (I Want to Wake up With You) on outstanding songs.

Washington said it was his idea to dig into producer Duke Reid’s vast Treasure Isle catalogue for Feeling Irie. Lindo, who also produced I’m Living Well, his 2020 album, readily agreed.
om

“Dem thing mi grow up on as a little youth, ‘cause mi used to play soun’, mi used to be a selector back inna di day. Dis album is perfect, inna di same vein as di Studio One album…dis a guh bun up di place!” said an excited Washington.

Lindo, a prolific session guitarist at Federal Records during the 1970s, played on several tracks for the new album. An interesting inclusion is Jackie Jackson, who played bass on many of the original Treasure Isle tracks in the 1960s. Treasure Isle was founded and operated by Reid, a former policeman known to wear his firearms during recording sessions at the studio, which was located at Bond Street in West Kingston.

Throughout the 1960s, Treasure Isle had an intense rivalry with Studio One, run by Clement "Coxsone" Dodd. Reid died in 1975, but his revered rhythms live on through projects like Feeling Irie. Songs like Home Again are driven by the music of My Best Girl by The Paragons, while Put it Down is done to The Melodians' Everybody Bawling.

Washington had major success with Brother to Brother, his 1996 album which heard him record songs on classic Studio One rhythms. He is looking for similar success with Feeling Irie!

Studio One Sponsoring Alpha Students To Attend Supernova Ska Festival In The USA
The Alpha School of Music is pleased to announce a partnership with legendary record label, Studio One, (studioonrecords.com) which will enable Alpha staff and students to attend the Supernova International Ska Festival (supernovaska.com) in Fort Monroe, Virginia, September 13-15. Thanks to the support of Studio One and a longstanding relationship with Supernova Ska Festival, two Alpha School of Music Associate Degree students will complete internships to better understand festival production, performance and marketing. With Studio One, Supernova and Alpha working together, the past, the present and the future of Jamaican ska will be on display inside the Jamaica Pavilion for the 10th anniversary staging of the Supernova International Ska Festival. To make it even more exciting. performing this year will be Alpha Boys School past student and Studio One recording artist Johnny Osbourne (“Truth & Rights”). Alpha drum student Leon Channer, who previously received a scholarship award from Supernova for his music performance, says the Studio One Supernova Internship will help with his personal and professional goals. “This internship program will help me build professional connections and gain knowledge about live sound mixing standards,” he said. “I also want to know more about how other countries have added their own styles to ska and reggae.”

“The late Sister Martha Milner, when she designed the Alpha School of Music curriculum, was clear that ska music is an important part of Alpha’s unique ensemble programme,” said Gay Magnus, Director of Music at the Alpha School of Music. “And she was so right, because Alpha’s relationships with Studio One and Supernova Ska Festival have created many important learning and career building opportunities. The Supernova Internship will help Alpha students learn about the international music industry, Jamaica’s role in it and their own place in ska and Jamaican music.“Zuri Gordon, a violin student with a dual focus on music technology, is eager to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about the marketing and the story telling side of music and entertainment. “I’m looking forward to helping out at the Alpha booth and meeting ska fans from around the world,” said Gordon. “And I’ve always loved shooting videos and pictures. Supernova Ska Festival will be a great opportunity to capture a part of Jamaican culture most Jamaicans may not know about.”

The Skatalites, Tommy McCook, Johnny Osbourne and Johnny Dizzy Moore are just a few of the records released by Alpha past students on the legendary Studio One label.Alpha is grateful for the continued partnership with Studio One, the premier ska label of all time. For its part, Studio One is looking forwarded to being part of the development of young musicians driving the next generation of Jamaican music. “We are looking forward to attending Supernova with the Alpha School of Music and ska fans from around the world,” Carol Dodd says. “Studio One and Alpha have had a long association throughout the years and from the earliest years of Studio One Alpha graduates have played a role in the history of the label. Mr. Dodd, the founder of Studio One, was always participating in, and keen to help, the education of Alpha students as he believed that Alpha would continue to be an asset to the students, and to Jamaica as well”.Supernova founder and director, Tim Receveur, says Supernova is honoured to be able to bring together the past, present and future of ska. “Good music is timeless and speaks volumes,” said Receveur. “It is awesome that for our 10th anniversary, Alpha current and past students will be part of the Supernova Ska Festival along with Studio One, the Dodd family and ska musicians and fans from around the world.

It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows or music.
