Photo Moment Redo with the 23rd Annual BFG Magazine!
|
Well, sometimes we do stuff to see if you're paying attention!
A thousand pardons to Kevin Burt (lt) and Victor Wainwright (rt) for last week's brain stumble regarding the featured photo and caption! I heard you both got a laugh out of it, of which we are grateful, but know that I was mortified about the cross up. I'm guessing the dimples must have thrown me off temporarily.
Soooo.... here's the multi award-winning soulful singer, guitarist, harmonicat, songwriter, blues troubadour... Kevin Burt showing off his BFG! Photographer Marilyn Stringer captured this cool shot of KEVIN while they were hanging out on the porch of Ground Zero in Clarksdale, MS, May 10, 2025, prior to the Pinetop Boogie & Crawfish Boil. The annual event benefits the Pinetop Perkins Scholarship Foundation.
Among many accolades, Kevin was the 2018 IBC Winner for Solo/Duo, Best Solo/Duo Guitarist, and Best Harmonica Player, plus he is a multiple BMA and Blues Blast Nominee, and was awarded the 2021 Bobby Rush Lifetime Achievement in Entertainment by the Jus’ Blues Foundation. Kevin also graced our 2021 Blues Festival Guide front cover.

Blues legend Bobby Rush calls BFG: "The roadmap to everything blues."

Written by Earl Thomas & Marta Garrick (aka Marta Gee), “Goodbye” is a soulful, cinematic track brought to life by French filmmaker Cédric Deur and music producer Thomas Molinas. We follow Earl in near silence as he carefully packs a bag — each gesture slow, deliberate, heavy with unspoken meaning. His journey carries him from Montreux, Switzerland — where three decades earlier, on the shores of Lake Geneva, his musical journey began at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival
— back through the landscapes that first shaped his dreams.

JUST IN CASE: "National Camera Day" is June 29, a day to celebrate the fact that photography, once so complicated it took a scientist to understand, is now part of our everyday lives.
Think of all the amazing memories made with photos. Not only with family but with friends doing cool things (maybe a Blues festival?) and the photos of Blues-roots artists of past that we actually know what they looked like as they were making music history. The simple captures to the almost unbelievable photo art, photos past and present are an indelible part of our lives and move our minds and hearts and some can take us places we never imagined.
Pictured here is Big Joe Williams
(circa 1930s - St. Louis)
"National Television Heritage Day" is July 1st . Believe it or not, people have been able to watch TV for over a 100 years now! Television was first available in the late 1920s, but it took several years before the new technology was marketed to consumers. Following WWII, improved black-and-white television broadcasting gained popularity in the United Kingdom and the United States. Color TV arrived in the early 60s. Thanks to TV, we've been able to discover and watch concerts, shorts and documentaries about blues music, it's history and it's artists plus discover new ones... and now with our Smart TVs and streaming.
FYI... July is also "National Picnic Month" (est. 1952), "National Ice Cream Month" (est. 1984) and "National Hot Dog Month" (est. 1956)! Have fun!
