Class/Workshop | The Momentary
Scholarships Available!
Perfect for teens aged 14 to 18, Music and Media Studio Production is a weeklong day camp for high schoolers from freshmen through seniors interested in songwriting, hip hop, and visual storytelling. Inspired by our exhibitions Front Row Center and The Prison Concerts, your growing artist will learn to execute their creative ideas and create their own work to showcase to their peers. Throughout this week, teens will work with hip hop ambassador and community activator Epiphany “Big Piph” Morrow on the creative projects that inspire them – whether that be writing songs or making music videos. They will learn how to tell a story through their songs and content creation. Teens will then share the work they have created in an exciting showcase open to other teens on the evening of Friday, July 18, from 6 – 8 pm!
SUPPORT OUR YOUNG MUSICIANS
ON JULY 24TH AT GEORGE'S! Come see your next generation of great young musicians! The School of Rock AllStars program takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a summer experience that further enhances their musical knowledge and industry professionalism. Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student, and less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent local schools as an AllStar. These students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like The Voice and American Idol, or have other notable roles in the music industry. Hubert Sumlin was born in Mississippi, but raised in Arkansas, so we Arkansans claim him! He was the absolute example of "it's not what you play, it's what you don't play" in Blues music. From Wikipedia: "He was best known for his "wrenched, shattering bursts of notes, sudden cliff-hanger silences and daring rhythmic suspensions". Sumlin was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame in 2008. He was nominated for four Grammy Awards: in 1999 for the album Tribute to Howlin' Wolf, with Henry Gray, Calvin Jones, Sam Lay, and Colin Linden; in 2000 for Legends, with Pinetop Perkins; in 2006, for his solo project About Them Shoes (which features performances by Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Levon Helm, David Johansen and James Cotton) and in 2010 for his contribution to Kenny Wayne Shepherd's Live! in Chicago. He won multiple Blues Music Awards. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards paid Sumlin's funeral expenses." Here's more from Wikipedia: HUBERT SUMLIN BIO - WIKIPEDIA
