Grandson of the great Marcus Garvey, Anthony Garvey leads the Black Africans. The band is now booking for the
Black History Month reggae tours in February 2026.
A seasoned roots, culture, and dancehall performer,
Garvey includes original music as well as beloved
reggae cover songs.
Originally from Jamaica, Garvey now resides in Berkeley, CA. His career started over 30 years ago in Jamaica where he performed at hotels for tourists in Montego Bay, Cornwall Beach, and Negril.
With Barry Sadler and the Merry Wonder, he migrated to the United States to join a band in Los Angeles called Black Wadada. Moving north to the San Fran
cisco Bay Area, he performed with Ras Kiddus, opened for legends such as Marlon Asher (Ganjah Farmer) at the New Karibbean City nightclub in Oakland, among other events and venues.
Garvey also performed at many festivals. He played with Cannon and The Lion of Judah band and at the annual Peter Tosh Birthday Celebration, and at Bay Area Vibes with Stephen Marley.
He has released three studio albums thus far: Garvey Astonish, Soldier On and one dub album called Anthony Garvey Roots and Culture, Dub Album Volume 1, plus seven singles. He is currently working in the studio on three more albums.
