Steven T. Licardi is an Autistic / neurodivergent social worker, spoken word poet, science fiction writer, artist, and performance activist working at the intersections of art and social policy. He travels internationally using the power of performance to create empathic dialogue around, to confront the realities of, and to assist communities in dismantling historic narratives surrounding mental health and madness. Since 2016, his ever-evolving performance series #CoupDeMot has been confronting how mental illnesses manifest out of oppressive social systems by tracing the hidden history of mental health treatment in the Western world and juxtaposing those truths to works appearing in his second collection of poetry, 'a billion burning dreams' (STL, 2018). Versions have appeared in Vigo, Spain in 2016; in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 2018; Thessaloniki, Greece in 2019; and Oslo, Norway in 2022. He runs a monthly sci-fi newsletter on his substack:
Raef Van Putten is a process fetishist obsessed with lassoing perception into conceptual genesis. His performance style hyperfocusses on the infinite here-now, bending reality with poetic breath, syllabic rhythms, morpheme trickery, and syntactic repetition.
Bob Bero is a composer, singer, and educator, He taught high school music for 35 years - band, chorus, and instruments. He founded and directed a vocal jazz ensemble until Covid intervened. Bob has had a voice studio for twenty years, and has written classical songs, three musicals, and now has the extraordinary pleasure of writing jazz. Bob is grateful to Mary Abrams for the opportunity to share his music this evening.
Bryce Leong is an accomplished writer, musician and singer. She was devoted to the arts since childhood and attended the prestigious Fiorello H LaGuardia High School. She studied music and as a prolific writer created many stories, memoirs, and poems.
Norman Salant has released three albums as a singer songwriter, most recently ‘Let It Shine’. A NYC-based artist perhaps best known as an innovative avant-pop saxophonist with two esoteric albums and his band The Norman Salant Group in San Francisco, and also through his collaborations with The Residents and Romeo Void, he was also an award-winning composer, producer and avant-gardist. Since 2000 he has been entirely focused on songwriting and singing. His songs reflect the most moving elements of life, with melodious constructions, intricate lyrical wordplay, large themes, poetic imagery, abstract impressions, character study and storytelling; they’re honest and somehow modern. In our post-pandemic semi-authoritarian world, Norman Salant’s music is especially worth listening to.
