BOB MARLEY CELEBRATES A BIRTHDAY
The Legendary Reggae Star Would Have Turned 66 on February 6th

Radio Specials, Streaming Parties, Video Premieres and more planned

Bob Marley was born on February 6th, 1945. The legendary reggae star, best known for such exceptional hits as "Could You Be Loved," "One Love" and "Three Little Birds" would have celebrated his 66th birthday this year.

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Music Enterprises and Tuff Gong Records team up to present Bob Marley & The Wailers – Live Forever: The Stanley Theatre, Pittsburgh, PA, September 23, 1980. This never before released 2 CD concert was recorded 30 years ago while Bob was touring in support of his famed album, Uprising. Live Forever features many of Bob's most cherished songs. Live Forever also immortalizes his final concert, and the last song Bob ever performed in concert: his rally cry for equality, "Get Up Stand Up." Available on CD for the first time, unforgettable performances of "No Woman No Cry," "Jammin'" and "Is This Love," to name a few, appear on this incredible audio documentary depicting an innovator and inspiration to people of many generations.

"Bob's music has always conveyed a message of hope, unity and love. It has brought countless people together as it did that night 30 years ago in Pittsburgh. To hear that music today and to be able to share it with a new generation shows that Bob is as relevant today as he was 30 years ago," says Rita Marley.

With more than 18+ million Facebook followers, Bob Marley and his music are being celebrated throughout the country. Some events include Amazon.com's exclusive premiere of "Redemption Song" performed by top artists around the world, Mog.com's streaming the album in its entirety, radio markets across the US premiering Bob Marley radio specials, and Clearchannel.com's national broadcast premiere of the Live Forever songs.

In celebration of Bob Marley's would-be 66th birthday on February 6, 2011, the Marley Family will be launching a brand new website which will offer a more intimate Bob Marley experience and include fresh, exclusive content. RISEUP! WATCH THE TRAILER AND VISIT THE OFFICIAL RISEUP WEBSITE

In celebration of Black History Month, we present RiseUp, an award-winning documentary film on Jamaican Music culture.

There is a place on earth where music is not just entertainment, it's a way of life. Far from the tourist resorts, RiseUp travels to the heart of contemporary Jamaica and its flourishing underground music scene. On an island where reggae is considered the voice of the people and an outlet for survival, three aspiring artists - Turbulence (a charismatic lyrical master from the ghetto), Ice Anastasia (the privileged uptown artist), and Kemoy (a shy angelic songstress from the country) - seek to "rise up" into the legendary eminence of their iconic predecessors. Deep in the ghettos where reggae was born, music continues to be a key form of expression for ghetto youths, who still face crippling inequalities, poverty, and violence. The award-winning film combines interviews with local underground musicians and Jamaica's music elite, with an energetic and inspiring soundtrack that gives life to an entire nation. RiseUp is a celebration of struggle and the elevation of the human spirit, a testimonial of what hope and courage can achieve in a land which is largely unseen, but certainly not unsung.

Welcome to the Jamaican underground music scene.

DUANE STEPHENSON ON TOUR IN CELEBRATION OF BLACK GOLD
Duane Stephenson is currently on his fourth tour outing with reggae’s legendary group The Wailers. Recent tours throughout South America and the U.S. have garnered a positive response with sold out performances for this compelling songwriter and versatile singer.

Performing songs from his September, 2010 VP Records release, BLACK GOLD as well as songs from his debut album FROM AUGUST TOWN (2007), Duane explains that he is “meeting many fans for the first time and these fans are a bit out of the scope of the traditional reggae market, working with the Wailers, and the support has been great so far.” Duane’s introduction to The Wailers was through their work with the United Nations World Food Programme.

He was invited to write a song “A Step for Mankind” to support the WFP. Duane is currently working on a new song whose proceeds will benefit the World Food Programme’s largest global operation in Sudan. In October, 2010 Duane was invited by the World Food Programme to honor of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the The George McGovern Leadership Award Ceremony as part of his work to spread the message of the need for more action in addressing the issue of world hunger.

As for the scope of his contribution as a reggae artist and humanitarian, he explains: “What I am doing is part of a larger mandate. The more you can do to make the world a better place for everybody, it is really a pleasure to do the little bit that I am actually doing, the feeling is great. It is something worthwhile as there are not many of these opportunities left.” Don’t miss Duane Stephenson while he is on tour throughout February and 2011!

The positive vibrations emanating from the music of Israel Vibration have been spellbinding audiences, critics and DJs for over two decades. This group of singers casts a harmonious musical spell, weaving traditional roots reggae with a mesmerizing sound and deeply spiritual message.

Israel Vibration members Cecil Spence (Skelly) and Lascelle Bulgin (Wiss) were born in Jamaica, West Indies. Each is a victim of Poliomyelitis (Polio). They met as children in the Mona Rehabilitation Center, into which they were placed because of their families’ limited resources and their needs for specialized medical care. They learned early on the necessity for developing survival skills, and although polio is an undeniably crippling and debilitating disease, the youths never let their physically challenging situation supercede their willpower and their creative abilities.

They found strength in the faith of Rastafari through the guidance of His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, and began composing and singing songs which expressed their spiritual beliefs. Their spirituality and stance on issues relating to their residency at the Mona Rehabilitation Center caused them to be expelled from that institution. Undaunted, they found solace, comfort, and sustenance in their music, which won them the support of their local community and provided them with encouragement to pursue their music careers. They began recording in 1976, enjoying a hit with the poignant Same Song, which was licensed to EMI and brought the group international attention.

Their musical careers seemed to be taking off, but, like many Jamaican artists, Israel Vibration’s recording career was set back by a local industry plagued at that time by questionable accounting practices, musical piracy, and a lack of tour support. In 1983, the group broke up and its members moved to the States both for superior medical care and to pursue solo projects. In 1988, each of the members approached Doctor Dread, president and founder of RAS Records, about solo recordings. Dr. Dread, who had greatly admired Israel Vibration’s unique, resonating sound, took heed from the words of Marcus Garvey, and, telling them that "unity is strength," recommended that the members unite. They accepted, and the rest of the story is one of a beautiful relationship that began with Strength of My Life, and continued with Praises, Forever, Vibes Alive, IV, On The Rock, Free to Move, and several dub albums.

On the Rock garnered much praise the single and video "Rudeboy Shufflin’," which, along with the "Feeling Irie" video, has been aired on BET as well as other television programs throughout the US and abroad. On The Rock and its follow-up Free To Move reached their height of success upon reaching number one on the CMJ New World charts. Their 1999 release, Pay the Piper, displays some of the strong material songwriters Skelly and Wiss are known for, and the album's featured video "Hard Road" was seen in 3900 Blockbuster video stores during the month of January, 2000. Their album Jericho, released May 16, 2000, is undeniably their strongest work in years and features the best musicians and harmonizers Jamaica has to offer. Skelly and Wiss fully commit to each honest lyric and sing from the heart with the true spirit of universality. Israel Vibration has been working closely with RAS Records for a long time, and will no doubt continue to do so while they redefine the term "Roots Reggae" for the new millennium.

CHEF MAYRA - Adverse Effects From Whey Protein Supplementation
The nutritional benefits of dairy products has been ascribed to the component called whey protein. Since its discovery, whey protein gained much popularity among health enthusiasts and athletes, especially body builders.

Whey protein is a high quality protein powder from cow's milk. Milk has two proteins: Casein (approximately 80%) and Whey Protein (approximately 20%).
Definitions of casein (Life Sciences & Allied Applications / Biochemistry) a phosphoprotein, precipitated from milk by the action of rennin, forming the basis of cheese: used in the manufacture of plastics and adhesives Also called (US)paracasein

Food supplement manufacturing companies also continue to develop new formulations to meet the increasing demand in the market.
However, there are some sectors from the health industry that express doubts regarding the efficacy and safety of whey protein. These people support the need for continuous research on the incidence of adverse effects of whey protein supplementation. They encourage accurate reporting of adverse effects of whey protein supplementation especially when taken in high amounts and within a long period of time. Below are examples of the claims of whey protein supporters and studies conducted that prove or disprove them.

Whey Protein and Cardiovascular Risk
Studies show that when a person increases his daily intake of whey protein and at the same time decreases his fat intake, a favorable modification in his blood lipid level is observed. This means a reduction in his risks for atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases. However, as with other drugs and food supplements, excessive dosages should be avoided as these may pose certain hazards to his health.

Whey Protein and the Kidneys
The kidneys function in excreting waste materials from the body. These wastes are mainly derived from the degradation of protein. This has led to concerns from some people regarding the adverse effects of whey protein supplementation to the kidneys. It has been theorized that an increase in the intake of protein by the body may strain and damage the kidneys and cause dysfunction. However, there are no evidences that clearly support these speculations.

Whey Protein and Osteoporosis
It has been found from several studies that an increase in the intake of whey protein leads to an increase in the calcium level of urine. This observation was further evaluated to determine if there are adverse effects of whey protein supplementation to the bone. However, it has not been found to trigger bone loss and osteoporosis. In fact, whey protein actually helped in bone mineralization.
When taking whey protein and other types of food supplements, nutritionists and other health experts inform people not only of its health benefits but also possible side effects. In cases of existing medical conditions, a person should consult first his physician if it is safe to add any food supplement to his existing prescription. Finally, besides food supplements like whey protein, proper diet, exercise, and a healthy lifestyle all contribute in preventing diseases and maintaining a healthy body.

From FLEX Online April, 2008
Stop laughing. We’re serious. Rice protein exists, and you should consider adding it to your shakes. Wondering how one of our favorite carb sources is also mysteriously a protein source? Allow us to clarify. Most foods contain a mix of macronutrients, so even though rice is high in carbs, it does contain protein. However, when eaten as a whole food, rice doesn’t have sufficient amounts of lysine, one of the nine essential amino acids, to be considered a complete protein. But when the protein in rice is concentrated in powder form, it turns into an excellent source of protein.

FROM ONE STUDENT TO ANOTHER: WINDSOR HIGH SCHOOL GIVES BACK TO ALPHA BOYS SCHOOL
A group of young students from Windsor High School’s Nueva School of the Arts, are addressing the challenges presented by the real world and volunteering their time and resources to give back to the renowned Alpha Boys School in Kingston, Jamaica. As Nueva is grounded in the principles of free thought and world learning, it was natural for the students to select this project with Alpha for their upcoming community project.

At Nueva, social issues are discussed from a global perspective and students have learned of the sacrifices many arts-oriented schools in poorer areas and third world countries experience. The students in Nueva were inspired by the story of one school dedicated to the Arts - Alpha. Alpha deserves all the help it can as it provides a safe home and education for its students. Nueva students will assist in renovating the school’s facilities and participate in their music classes as well as help the students with their farming program. With extremely limited funding, Alpha creates an art that most schools consider superfluous. The faculty of Alpha teaches the beauty of expression that comes with music; they realize that the heartache, suffering and joy of their world can be evinced through storytelling.

The beauty of Reggae music is its expression of a desire for social change and celebration of proud Jamaican culture cherished the world over.  By doing their part to help Alpha, Nueva hopes to encourage the next generation of poets, musicians and artists who will proudly spread the message of hope and social progress.

To ensure their participation, these students have embarked upon a variety of fund raising efforts.  They respectfully request anyone interested in contributing in any way contact Melanie Toth at nuevamap@yahoo.com.

About Ben E. Hunter:

Ben E. Hunter’s music represents the best of New Orleans. The NOLA born artist combines elements of jazz, folk, rock, Mardi Gras Indian chants and Caribbean rhythms to create a unique and unforgettable sound. A popular fixture on the New Orleans club circuit, which draws people from around the globe, Hunter has toured the world, from Central America to South Africa, performing at large scale musical events such as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica.

Hunter’s discography includes “Reality Check” (1992), “Soul Avenger: Live Intergalactic,” (1999), “Voodoo Reggae,” (2006), the post-Katrina recording “Traveler: A Healing Album for the City of New Orleans” (2008) and more.
Hunter is gearing up for the release of his new album, “Delta Dub,” recorded at the famed Jack Ruby studios in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

Producer Native Wayne Jobson describes “Delta Dub” as Bob Marley meets Dr.
John meets Lil’ Wayne
. Each track on “Delta Dub” is a winner--from the rootical “Wars and Lies” to the achingly romantic “All I Live For” to Hunter’s Rasta/funky cover of Donovan’s “Sunshine Superman.” “Delta Dub” brings together stellar producers and musicians such as Native Wayne and Brian Jobson, Neil Case and Barry O’Hare.

A Hurricane Katrina survivor, Hunter temporarily relocated to Los Angeles in 2005, where he was the subject of the Sledgehammer Films documentary “Baptized at Katrina: A Refugee Story.”  In 2004, Hunter sang on the soundtrack of the film “Skeleton Key,” starring Kate Hudson.  In 2010, he appeared in the first season of the award-winning HBO series “Treme.”

Hunter’s musical influences include Burning Spear, Lee “Scratch” Perry, dub poet Mutabaruka and Curtis Mayfield. Among many things, Hunter is a survivor; overcoming struggles with poverty, violence in his community and the devastation in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He has been outspoken about his ongoing struggle with epilepsy. When it comes to his inspirations, Hunter sees his original songs and poetry as reflections of daily life:

"I often write about friends or people around me who have many social and emotional experiences everyday."

SARITAH : : Ancient Forward
ROOTS/SOUL/REGGAE Singer/Songwriter

South-Korean born Australian conscious roots artist Saritah (sa-REE-ta) is a talented artist with a positive vision for the future.

Inspiring, uplifting and playfully powerful, Saritah’s live shows are colourful celebrations of life.  Whether delivering soulful acoustic guitar, roots reggae or dancehall inspired grooves, Saritah loves to connect with the audience. Her positive, conscious lyrics are delivered with a captivating blend of strength and grace.

Her latest album Ancient Forward was recorded in Brisbane’s Tanuki Lounge Studio with Paulie B (bass player for Aussie dub/roots act The Beautiful Girls).

Ancient Forward addresses life on planet earth on a personal and global level.  Positivity and light-filled affirmations sit organically beside explorations into some of the dark realities we face in these times. Driving dancehall, roots and ska-inspired rhythms give way to acoustic guitar, space and melody; earthy textures create a worldly yet intimate album that for the listener, is a joy to hear. It is a colourful, dynamic album that inspires our way forward.

Saritah will soon be bringing her sound to this side of the globe, with a North America Summer 2011 Tour currently being booked to promote her latest CD release Ancient Forward. Out of Melbourne, Australia, Saritah and her band will play a cross-section of festivals, events and venues on the West Coast of the U.S. and in Canada throughout May – August. The band's appeal crosses many genres and includes fans of reggae, world, roots and soul.

Inner Circle/SPY v SPY Rocks Brazil

"Reggae Rock Surf Music Festival"

Most people know Inner Circle via "Bad Boys," the ubiquitous "Cops" theme song that typified Inner Circle as one of reggae's most successful crossover groups ever.

On the legendary band's latest CD Blazzin' Fire: Classic Cuts (DubShotta/SoundBwoy Ent), the two-time Grammy winners create one of the hardest-hitting, most lyrically serious albums to be heard in recent years. Joined by an all-star group of guests, including the likes of Buju Banton, Pitbull, Stephen and Damian Marley, Gramps from Morgan Heritage, Anthony B and more. Blazzin' Fire: Classic Cuts re-asserts the depth of Inner Circle's musical history.

It all makes perfect sense when you realize that Inner Circle are survivors, one of a handful of pioneering reggae artists still around with the credentials and artistry to do it, with a rich history--especially their classic reggae hits with lead singer Jacob Miller--too often overshadowed by their pop success. January 20th, Inner Circle will join forces with Australian group Spy v Spy for the Brazil Reggae Rock Surf Festival tour, and then return home for the Bob Marley Movements: 18th Annual 9 Mile Music Festival with Stephen, Damian, Julian and Kymani Marley, and Slightly Stoopid.

BRAND NEW SINGLE FROM FAST RISING REGGAE/DANCEHALL FEMALE DJ:
DJ Sunshine is undoubtedly “The First Lady” with a phenomenal career spanning over a decade. She is widely revered, and is one of the longest-standing female disc jockeys.

DJ Sunshine ignites her audience with her winning trademark smile, her glamorous personality, and her suave sophistication that only a Sunshine girl can pull off. Born a Leo, DJ Sunshine grew up in St. Andrew, Jamaica, and attended St. Andrew High School for Girls. Later she pursued a degree in architecture at Miami Dade Community College. However, when called to listen to the beat of her own drums, and take her chosen path, her passion for music overrode all other career interests.

Music has always been her passion, and at a very young age she would enthusiastically rush home to listen to the radio and record the latest tunes on cassette tapes and practice mixing them on the family stereo set.

After graduating from Miami Dade Community College, DJ Sunshine returned to Jamaica and pursued her love affair with music. She began playing at house parties and small events at venues. Her hard work and dedication to her music paid off when she was discovered by Marketing consultant Karlene Walters, and while playing at Harry's bar in Kingston Brian Schmidt, marketing manager of IRIE FM, couldn't resist introducing her to Karl Young CEO of IRIE who quickly added her to the team.

She joined the staff of the hugely popular radio station in October 2001, and since then she has been flexing her musical muscles, entertaining thousands of people both locally and internationally who tune in to catch her popular radio programme “The Jam”, which airs on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 2 p.m to 6 p.m. www.iriefm.net

DJ Sunshine is a major force on the party circuit and the musical maestro has been entertaining the people throughout the Caribbean and leaving her footprints behind in parts of Europe such as Germany, Denmark and England. Locally she has emceed major events such as Rebel Salute and Follow the Arrow, just to name a few.

Being a woman in the music industry is not without its challenges. However, DJ Sunshine welcomes this challenge as she pushes the envelope to stay ahead of her game, maintain her status, and compete with her male counterparts. "I have to keep the standard high. A number of females have told me that I've opened the door for them and it makes me feel good”. With her vivacious personality and unique style of spreading joy, she has found ways to help foster upcoming artists’ talent by showcasing them on her radio programme.

DJ Sunshine also hosts an annual stage show "FUEL", which is supported by Jamaica’s top performers. Apart from wearing the hat as Disc Jockey, she is an entrepreneur and is the first Jamaican female to own a sound system.

DJ Sunshine has made her television debut as the host of “Reggaelution 20’’, a new top 20 countdown show which is filmed around the island and designed to promote good reggae music both locally and internationally., which airs on CVM TV at 5:30 p.m on Thursday afternoons and online www.livitytv.com

She acknowledges that this is a different role for her but has embraced the venture. The disc jockey’s voice is now flowing through the airwaves in a different way: She has now crossed over to making her debut as a recording artiste, her first single (A Doh Care Anymore), followed by the track (Nuh Yaad) and latest single (Run Some money) has been enjoying a good rotation on the radio and the dancehalls. Fuelled by the attention that all three singles have been receiving. What is so special about this disc jock? Well DJ Sunshine will be the first to tell you that it is all about humility and being yourself and added you must always know that there is room for improvement and stay focused.
