Beres Hammond and Sizzla Receive 2014 Grammy Nominations for Best Reggae Album
NEW YORK - The 2014 Grammy nominees were revealed on Friday, December 6th, 2013. Two titles released on VP Records, Beres Hammond's One Love, One Life and Sizzla's The Messiah, are in the running for the Best Reggae Album category.

Known to many as the "Otis Redding of Reggae," Beres Hammond has been producing and pouring out his smoky-sweet vocals over every kind of riddim track for almost 40 years. VP Records released his latest Grammy-nominated, double-disc studio album One Love, One Life in November 2012.

The release peaked at #1 on Billboard's Top 10 Reggae Album chart and was hailed by Rolling Stone as "one of the best albums of a four-decade-long career." The first disc One Love includes his signature classic lover's rock sound, while the second disc One Life contains more of his socially-conscious, spiritually empowering tunes. Beres Hammond produced 19 of the 20 songs with co-producers Donovan Germain on "No Candle Light," Collin "Bulby" York on "In My Arms" and Michael Fletcher on "More Time." This is Beres Hammond's second Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album. The icon was considered in 2002 for his 2001 studio album Music Is Life.

This is Sizzla's first Grammy nomination. Mostly written and executive produced by himself, Sizzla's full scope of talents are displayed on his 70th effort The Messiah, which was released this May. As one of reggae's most prolific artists, he showcases his musical depth, passion and precision on this 15-track collection inspiring positive change worldwide.

His social commentary on songs like "Chant Dem Down," "No Wicked Man" and "Psalms 121" reveal his daring bravado and righteous lyrics, while the melodic anthem "Good Love" unveils his softer side. The Messiah peaked at #1 on the South Florida Reggae Chart and New York Reggae Chart. With his fresh perspective, it is evident that Sizzla remains the reigning king of roots.

"We are very proud of Sizzla and Beres for this outstanding achievement. Each artist, who are both legends in their own right, created inspiring and groundbreaking material on their latest collections. They not only released some of their best work to date, but raised the bar for the genre," states VP Records CEO Christopher Chin.
Sick Donkey Records releases Rastafari is King with Essential I & Turbulence
Washington state's Essential I teamed up with Turbulence to record "Rastafari Is King" and film a wonderful music video tribute in a riverside woodland setting. The song pays tribute to H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie and the artists trade verses that serve to emphasize the strength that comes from Rasta teachings and spirituality. The riddim, known as Backwoods is a peaceful one- drop with an uplifting vibe, check out the video, here: Rastafari Is King video.
ESSENTIAL I is an up & coming artist from Okanogan County. As co-founder and a member of Sick Donkey Records, he has been recording and performing in the Northwestern United States for several years and making an impact everywhere as he stomps down Babylon with word, sound & power! TURBULENCE has built up a healthy and extensive fan base after releasing almost twenty albums and touring as a headliner in his own right. His biggest hit to date is Notorious, which rapidly outgrew its reggae and dancehall roots to become a huge hit world wide. Turbulence starred in the film Rise Up (Reggae Star), which documents the progress of three young artists from Jamaica.
Essential I & Turbulence deliver strong lyrical performances to uplift and glorify the Rastafari faith & livity (way of life). The song is to be included on Essential I's forthcoming album SoulJah Salute. Sick Donkey Records will release the Rastafari Is King as part of the Backwoods Riddim selection that includes versions from Mark Wonder on "Rejoicing In Jah Glory" and more from Mykal Rose, Sarah Christine, Jay Prince, Nina Nunezz, Gavinchi and Winstrong.

Ed Robinson Tribute to Nelson Mandela
Hi! Here's a brand new song from Ed Robinson. It's a tribute to the late great Nelson Mandela! Enjoy listening!

An encounter with Ed Robinson is an encounter with one of Reggae music’s most consistently great contributors. Throughout the course of his over thirty year career Mr. Robinson has blessed the music industry with his talent both before the mic and behind the scenes.

Having started his career as the drummer in a school band, Ed Robinson gave hints of his versatility from the very beginning. Over the years he found himself becoming a key player in the diverse genres of Reggae, Rock, Soul, Hip Hop, and R & B. His tremendous production talent has found him at work with industry greats like Bob Andy,Richie Stevens,Luciano, Maxi Priest, Buju Banton, Super Cat, Snoop Dogg, Aron Hall Kandyman and the incomparable Dennis Brown just to name a few. While constantly at work in the studio, Robinson still found time to perform in such great stage shows as Reggae Carifest, Irie Jamboree, Ragga Muffin Festival and Sunsplash. It was during a performance at Sunsplash concert that he caught the attention of MCA Records.

His first album “Once Again” was ultimately released by VP Records and contained the highly acclaimed track “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”. A second album, “Sky is the Limit”, was released on Jet Star Records featured powerful Roots tunes like “Bad Minded People”, “Skin I’m In”, and a fine version of “Burnin’ and Lootin’”. His third album a charm “Solitude” is that rare album that is made for listening. The steady grooves are perfectly complimented by his melodious voice. The fourth is as charming as they get. This album sits squarely on the fence between Roots Reggae and Lovers Rock and represents another start-to-finish ear pleaser. The production on “The Awakening” is smooth and shows the experience of a tried and tested musician.

Talented reggae crooner, songwriter and producer Ed Robinson is back in the game with his brand new fifth album titled Written In Stone. The album boast the tribute single "Our Heroes," which quickly became an anthem on Caribbean radio programs in Florida, the tri-state area, Europe and the Caribbean. The 15 track disc album also include songs like 'Baby I Love Ya,' 'You're Special,' 'Cry No More,' 'Talking Blues,' 'Cyberspace Girl' and a moving cover version of the Alton Ellis’s classic "If I Follow My Heart" that is sure to find a place in the hearts of reggae lovers globally.

A brand new album is in the making, including a cover versions of Diane Warren's 'I don't wanna miss a thing' and Dennis' Brown's 'If I had the World'. The tribute song for Nelson Mandela 'Even if him pass and gone' was very spontaniuos and has been written and recorded within 24 hours on the go. That just shows the great ability and quality of Ed Robinson's music. Not only being a great singer, but also a professional player of instruments, studio engineer and producer.
