Greetings from your Editor...
Happy Holidays & Peace

Time to gather 2013 in your thoughts and prepare to say "goodbye! The holiday season always seems to be a time to open up our hearts even more than usual. This past year we've all had some amazing "family" experiences via blues. Let's not let the end of the season be a reason to let those warm feelings slide or to forget about reaching out to a friend in need. I saw a poignant message recently: "Give beyond reason, care beyond hope, love without limit... reach, stretch and dream, in spite of your fears." Let's carry on that peaceful, together feeling... and what better way to celebrate than with our blues family. No matter how you celebrate (or don't celebrate) the holiday season, know that we at the Blues Festival Guide will always be here carrying on. Thanks for sharing a terrific year with us and here's to helping keep the festivals alive and flourishing!

"Together we stand, divided we fall, come on now people let's get on the ball and work together. Come on, come on, let's work together. You know together we will stand every boy, girl woman and man." (Wilbert Harrison)

Bob Lanza Blues Band :: 'TIL THE PAIN IS GONE
There is only one way to play the blues: From the heart with ferocity as if your life depends on it. Singer, songwriter and guitarist Bob Lanza, from the wilds of north New Jersey, leaves no doubt as to motivation with a scorching second release 'Til The Pain Is Gone, following his debut Things Ain’t So Bad (2009). Years with Floyd Phillips and the Mudflaps and backing legends like James Cotton prepared his audition as a new blues guitar hero. The Bob Lanza Blues Band also represented the New York Blues & Jazz Society at the 2011 International Blues Challenge.

The 12 original and cover tunes on 'Til The Pain Is Gone range from tough to tender and are backed by the Reverend Sandy Joren (bass), Noel Sagerman (drums), David “Snakeman” Runyan (harmonica) and a number of guest artists, including son Jake Lanza (guitar).

Bob Lanza presents a convincing story and expresses universal emotions on 'Til The Pain Is Gone.

Howard Glazer :: STEPCHILD OF THE BLUES
Detroit guitar virtuoso Howard Glazer's Stepchild Of The Blues draws upon his eclectic musical past to deliver rootsy guitar based blues and blues rock. Two songs feature Harmonica Shah, their first time reunited on CD in 10 years and Chuck Bartels (Bass/Bettye Lavette band) on 3 songs. 9 original tracks, 6 new songs and 3 new takes on Glazer classics.

Howard Glazer has performed worldwide and was recently nominated for the 2013 Downbeat Critics Choice awards: Best Rising Star-Guitarist and Best Blues Artist along with multiple Detroit Music Awards. Checkout his latest release, Stepchild Of The Blues.

The Wolf of Wall Street soundtrack heavy on blues
Mother Jones - Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street is the year's best film—a towering achievement in humor and sprawling excess. The movie hits theaters on Christmas Day, and dramatizes the testosterone-soaked saga of Jordan Belfort, co-founder and chairman of Long Island brokerage house Stratton Oakmont, who went down for securities fraud and money laundering in the 1990s.

The Wolf of Wall Street soundtrack is heavy on blues music, and includes some familiar names such as Elmore James, Howlin' Wolf, and Bo Diddley. But one of the songs prominently featured in a couple of scenes in The Wolf of Wall Street is by a blues-rock duo you probably haven't heard of: The band is the Los Angeles-based 7Horse, with Phil Leavitt on drums and lead vocals, and Joie Calio on guitar.

The Paramount Records Cabinet of Wonders
Stereophile - For the past two years, in collaboration with Revenant Records—the Austin, Texas–based label founded by John Fahey and run since his death, in 2001, by attorney Dean Blackwood—[Jack] White has been spending his hard-earned arena-rock dollars funding the process of hunting down and remastering 1600 78rpm tracks originally released by the legendary Paramount label. The first result, The Rise & Fall of Paramount Records 1917–1932, Volume One, comprising 800 tracks by 172 artists, was released October 30, 2013. Volume Two will released in November 2014. The first set is housed in what is called a "wonder-cabinet" which contains lavish packaging and printed materials, a USB drive containing all 800 tracks and six LPs with 87 tracks.
