Blues Festival Guide
May 8, 2014
Vol 9/Issue 19
Greetings from your Editor...
Celebrate yer mama...

Mother, mom, mama, mommy... how ever you may say it, it connotes love and warmth and protection. "Mother" stands for a multitude of things.. the hug giver, the disciplinarian, the Band-Aid placer, the gentle guide, the comfort-food maker, maybe even the music maker. Even the earth is called "Mother." Celebrate your "mama" this weekend with unconditional love.
This week's Featured Video is a song by soul/bluesman Latimore called "Edna Mae," a tribute to his mother and man, it gets me every time. "Can't nobody sing a song to me like Edna Mae."
Birthdays of note this week: May 8 Joe Bonamassa (1977), Robert Johnson (1911), May 9 Bob Margolin (1949), A.C. Reed (1926), Dave Prater (1937), May 10 Ted Bogan (1910), Greg Piccolo (1951), May 12 Guy Davis (1952), May 13 Stevie Wonder (1950)

Eclectic and highly entertaining, HooDoo Moon shows the KingBees are a band to be reckoned with. The 10 new original songs run the gamut from Chicago to New Orleans blues, with some blues rock in the mix. As Greg Martin, guitar virtuoso from the Kentucky Headhunters blurbed on the Hoodoo Moon cover, ”Rick, Jim, David, Mike and Rob wear their influences well...." Read more here

Blues Society News
Billtown Blues Association presents the 25th Annual Billtown Blues Festival
It was June 24, 1990, 25 years ago. About 150 people gathered on the private property of then County Commissioner Paul Glunk, along the Susquehanna River. Just a few weeks prior, six blues music fans gathered at Franco’s Lounge in downtown Williamsport, and discussed the possibility of presenting a blues music festival. Doug McMinn, Chris Bastress, Penny Austin, Fred Daniele, Charlie Lockard and Bonnie Tallman, each put $50.00 on the table. That was the beginning of what has become an Annual Billtown Blues Festival in Lycoming County, now in its 25th consecutive year drawing several thousand.
