TABLE  OF  CONTENTS
Greetings from your Editor...
Listen to the Hot August Blues calling...

August 20 is unofficial National Radio Day, celebrating a great invention and communications medium. The invention of the radio dates back to the late 1800s. The radio somewhat evolved cruising down a long path from the telegraph and the telephone, with wireless telegraph directly contributing to its invention.

Let's face it, if it weren't for the radio, we may never discover certain artists or get to hear our favorite songs by artists unless we buy their albums. Of course buying albums is the end goal and radio is a marketing tool for that for sure. There are countless stations now with the advent of internet radio which has also introduced us to some amazing DJ's. Radio fills our senses with the heartfelt passion of artists thanks to DJ's either "spinning" tracks that artists have recorded or featuring them live in the studio on occasion. Radio is a vehicle for artists to not only be heard but also collect royalties for their hard work and talent. I can't tell you how many artists I've discovered thanks to the radio... one of those is featured as our Video of The Week. If you don't know him already, meet Darren Watson from New Zealand.

Yes, we love our radio and DJ's but we do love it live and festivals deliver!

Birthdays of note: Aug 17 Luther Allison (1939); Aug 18 Curtis Jones (1906); Aug 20 Issac Hayes (1942), Jack Teagarden (1905); Aug 21 Count Basie (1904); Aug 22 John Lee Hooker (1917), Debbie Davies (1952)

Stormcellar :: THE CURIOUS ASSEMBLY
Powerhouse songwriting, blues/roots outfit Stormcellar, have released their 6th Album, The Curious Assembly to debut at #2 and climbing on the Australian Blues & Roots Chart. With two previous #1 slots in the land downunder and albums charting in the US, France and Canada, Stormcellar have continued to release original interpretations of 20th century styles described as ‘Weird…but good!’

It’s Blues, but not as you know it.

But what else would you expect from band built on the bones of a straight forward slide/harmonica, R&B five piece that’s mutated uncontrollably to mix blues with Reggae, Japanese pop and Australian convict songs.

Shawn Amos :: THE REVEREND SHAWN AMOS TELLS IT

One of the wonders of the blues is the circuitous path some artists take to the “true way.” Singer, harmonicist, songwriter and ordained minister in the Universal Life Church, Shawn Amos is the son of former William Morris agent Wally “Famous” Amos and R&B singer Shirlee May, who grew up in Los Angeles in the 1970’s when his father was booking legendary Motown acts like Marvin Gaye. He would go on to produce and perform with Solomon Burke, and produce John Lee Hooker and Johnny “Guitar” Watson, along with performing and recording his original folk music in the nineties with lyrics from an African-American perspective.

Stormcellar - The All Colours Blues Tour
Stormcellar returns to the Midwest this year to open the Crossroads Festival in Rockford, Illinois and play a string of shows across the Midwest on the All Colours Blues tour.

Audiences developed a taste for Stormcellars’ Australian take on blues and roots during their first tour in 2013 and began following them Dead Head-style through Illinois.

The All Colours Blues tour sees the band return at full compliment, a six piece of slide guitar, harmonica, electric and acoustic guitar, mandolin and percussion combo and this time they’ve shanghaied mother of four, Jo Fitzgerald, from sleepy rural Cumnock in rural New South Wales, to come and sing with the band!
