September ~ Seat of the Student
Mary Yoga ENews
Issue #105  *  Sept 2014
Falling Back Into School
I have always loved September. Fresh school year, new teachers, books, new things to learn. New friends, crisp fall leaves. On tree-canopied downtown Toronto streets, there were chestnuts to catch for a winter's worth of snowman facial features and buttons.

My son is a freshman in college this fall, I am in voiceover school and motorcycle school; but way beyond that, I am in "school" in a whole new way in my life, seeing perspectives and life lessons that astonish "my" sassy, self-assured mind.

August and September began a giant journey of new learnings for me. Humbling and thrilling, there is an innocence and rawness in beginner's mind that I am fully embracing ~ being yet again the new kid at school. I wish you the same. Joyful newness. Infancy. Studentship!
Elul: Entering Your New Year
I attended recently a fascinating lecture with Dr. Gerald Epstein, MD, physician, author, pioneer and longtime teacher of integrative healing. I share here some excerpts from his blog on renewal in this season:

"The Elul Experience:
Your Message For the New Year"

"The 30 day period prior to the Hebraic new year called Rosh Hashanah is a month called Elul, meaning God is in the garden, or God is drawing near."

"At the time of the Day of Atonement (at-one-ment), Yom Kippur, God is fully present with us. Here, the heavenly Book of Life is opened in which each of us may be inscribed for life for the coming year. The tradition holds that we actively participate in inscribing ourselves in this book of life through our acts of kindness, charitable givings, and prayers."

"During the 30 day period alluded to above, almost everyone - no matter what your persuasion - experiences some significant, striking, unusual, different, attention grabbing experience."

"This experience, or dream, shows us what is in the offing for the coming year; either the area we need to work on; some portentous message; something beneficial coming our way. It defines, one way or another, our focus for the unfolding year."

"For 2014, this year, the 30 day period is sundown August 26 - sundown September 24."

"Whatever happens it’s all good."

Slackline Sunday
Slackline Yoga ~ which has been described as “distilling the art of yogic concentration” ~ comes to Om Factory Flight School! Sunday, October 19th, 1:30-3:30pm.

This practice is by far some of the most fun you will have trying to balance, while refining focus, breath, power, core, flexibility and confidence.

Great for yogis and athletes of all forms, The YogaSlackers' style of teaching Slackline Yoga helps students develop new techniques of body awareness, strength and concentration.

Yes, anyone can learn to do it. We begin with exercises on the ground, then progress on the line: kneeling, sitting, standing, arm balancing. As we gain in experience we explore inversions, lying down on the line, and transitions that connect poses on the line ~ vinyasa.

No experience needed! We support your practice where it is.

Class size limited; pre-register to ensure a spot.
Holiday Restoratives
This holiday season I offer my 2-hour chakra-tuning Restorative treats twice, at both Pure Yoga Eastside and Westside; one in November, and one in December.

Save these dates on your fancy new iPhone 6 or your trusty old Daytimer; just save them! Plan to treat a friend or 2 and make grateful yogi friends for life out of your near and dear ones. The exact times will soon be up on both Pure's website and  my website.

Saturday Nov 15: East
Saturday Dec 13: West
