What Chance to You Give This Calf vs Lion?

Calf

This is a fascinating film involving a pride of lions, a herd of Cape buffalo, a crocodile and a small calf. You might be tempted to watch for only a few seconds but give it time, the drama develops slowly.

Silly Blonde Jokes (with apologies)

A young brunette goes into the doctor's office and says that her body hurts wherever she touches it.

"Impossible," says the doctor. "Show me."

She takes her finger and pushes her elbow and screams in agony. She pushes her knee and screams, pushes her ankle and screams and so it goes on, everywhere she touches makes her scream.

The doctor says, "You're not really a brunette, are you?"

She says, "No, I'm really a blonde."

"I thought so," he says. "Your finger is broken."

*********************

A Blonde was down on her luck. In order to raise some money, she decided to kidnap a kid and hold him for ransom.

She went to the playground, grabbed a kid, took him behind a tree, and told him, "I`ve kidnapped you."

She then wrote a note saying, "I`ve kidnapped your kid. Tomorrow morning, put $10,000 in a paper bag and put it under the pecan tree next to the slide on the north side of the playground. Signed, Blonde."

The Blonde then taped the note to the kid`s shirt and sent him home to show it to his parents.

The next morning the blonde checked, and sure enough, a paper bag was sitting beneath the pecan tree.

The blonde opened the bag and found the $10,000 with a note that said, "How could you do this to a fellow Blonde?"

************************

A blonde went to the appliance store sale and found a bargain. "I would like to buy this TV," she told the salesman.

"Sorry, we don't sell to blondes," he replied.

The blonde was very angry about this. She hurried home and dyed her hair, then came back and again told the salesman, "I would like to buy this TV."

"Sorry, we don't sell to blondes," he replied.

The blonde did not know how the salesman had recognized her. This time, she got a haircut and new color, a new outfit and big sunglasses. She then waited a few days before she approached the salesman.

"I would like to buy this TV."

"Sorry, we don't sell to blondes," he replied.

Frustrated, she exclaimed, "How do you know I'm a blonde?"

"Because that's a microwave," he replied.

***************************

Did you hear about the blonde that put lipstick on her forehead so she could make up her mind?***

Did you hear about the blonde that threw away her weight loss video because she noticed that the people on the video were not losing weight either?***

Why can't you tell blondes knock-knock jokes? Because they go answer the door.***

What do you call a blond with a Chainsaw? Dead.***

How do you sink a submarine full of blondes? You knock on the door.***

What do you do if a Blonde throws a pin at you? Run, she's got a grenade in her mouth!***

Carolyn Rifle Scopes

We've had a request for information- copies of catalogs or advertisements for Carolyn Rifle Scopes. All I've been able to find is a thread on the ASSRA website. Can anyone help David Hanson? If you can send me images or photocopies I'll get them to him. Originals I can scan and return to you.

Letters from Readers

Dear Abby, Ref: Browning c1931 FN Auto 5 Manual. hello & happy new year, I have asked a few times, I would love the original copy of this item any chance to get it this year?? thanks much Wes

Dear Wes, We have thousands of old catalogs in no particular order. We also have thousands of requests for this original or that one. One day when we retire from retirement (we are supposed to be retired now!) we'll probably put them up for sale on Ebay. Until then we have to respectfully turn away all requests. Cheers, Rob

Dear Abby, AH Fox 1922 Gun Catalog Comments: very disappointed. was advertised as 8 1/2"x 6" in full color. its black & white & only 3 3/4" X 5 1/2". What's the scoop? Kent Corning

Dear Mr. Corning, I'm sorry you didn't like the Fox catalog. Abby and I try to please but realize we can't make everyone happy and we also make mistakes. You are right, we changed the size without changing the description about five years ago! I fixed it at the website and will change it at Ebay as soon as I can. The color part refers to the cover, not the insides which we identify as being in color below in the description if they are color. We also put a photo of the cover and insides with each ad showing an inside page indicating color or not. I understand if you could have been misled and I asked Abby to refund all your money, postage included. Please keep the copy, don't bother returning it. Thank you for pointing out the error and please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. Happy New Year, Rob

Hello Abby, I just received the two publications I ordered from you - thank you very much! I ordered the two publications because they are both advertised (at CornellPubs & GunBroker) as containing information about the Hopkins & Allen "Noiseless" rifle, which is my sole interest for a project I am researching. The first publication, ("Hopkins & Allen Arms Memorabilia Society Newsletters - Vol 1-6 Carder"), does indeed contain references to the Noiseless rifle, exactly as advertised, which I am absolutely delighted with. However, the second publication, ("Hopkins & Allen 1914 Late Catalog"), although lovingly restored and fascinating to browse through, does not contain any references to the Noiseless rifle - at least not that I can find. (The online listings show references to the Noiseless rifle in that catalog under "contents-index"). Can you please let me know if I am simply not locating that information correctly in that particular publication, or, is it possible that that publication may have been inadvertently advertised incorrectly online. (Another possibility is that there may have been a separate insert for the Noiseless rifle that may have been included with the catalog, but didn't make it into the printing of the main catalog.). Thank you so very much for your time, - Ms. Shelly Cohen

Dear Shelly, I'm trying to help Abby get caught up with the mountain of questions we accrued over Christmas. Your question is about the H&A noiseless rifle which is pictured and described on the last page of the late 1914 H&A catalog. Please check you copy and tell us if it is lacking this page. If necessary we'll send another. Please let us know. Happy New Year, Rob Mouat

Dear cornellpubs, I don't know if you can answer this or not - 1) Was the 1936 on the front cover on this reprint on the original the manual that was copied? AND, 2) Can I see a picture of the outside rear cover page? Thank you, JT - makeabid2006

Dear JY We added 1936 to the front cover. The rear cover is dated 12.36. Rob

Rob: Thank you!!! Do you recall what Number (Nr. XXX.X) it was? This would have preceded the date on the back cover. Since you don't show pages or the back cover in your auction on ebay, is the back cover included with the copy I would buy? If yes, just let me know and I will purchase it now for that information. Again, thanks, JT - makeabid2006 (Ebay)

Dear JT, Yes, you get the back cover. Rob

Dear cornellpubs, Colt 1959 Catalog Hello, does it show. Officers Model Match? Thanks, Larry - purple517213 (Ebay)

Dear Larry, Yes, it does. Scroll down in the advert to see the contents of each of the catalogs we advertise. Cheers, Rob

Hello, I paid you on December 3rd ($18.84), I have not received my Colt Catalog....I've been quite patient. The tracking number shows that "electronic status" has been received. Confirmation number does not give any status.... So....you have my money, and I have no book.... Please make this right ASAP or I will no longer be a loyal customer. I am a huge fan of communication, so feel free to let me know via e-mail or phone (740)804-0951 how you plan to proceed in this matter. R/ Daniel Voiers

Daniel, This looks to me as if this is the first we heard about the problem. We shipped it and it is apparently lost in the mail. I have no idea what happened but we will send you another... no need to threaten to "no longer be a loyal customer". Cheers, Rob

Rob, Thank you for your prompt response. Please send me tracking info when you ship. How did you conclude that it was lost in the mail? I didn't see any info provided via the original tracking number. R/ Dan

Dan, Was stamped, given a tracking number and delivered to the PO, we don't have it, you don't have it ergo, it is lost, no? Rob

Hingston-Smith Arms Company 1902 Comments: Hi... i wrote a book about lacrosse - looking to further my research with a catalog by Hingston-Smith Arms Company - apparently they sold lacrosse sticks too back in 1902 1903 Michael Radecki

Dear Michael, How interesting, I didn't know that. Our copy is just guns as indicated in the index. Thanks for writing. Rob

Dear Abby, Does your Item 1948 include the Compact version of the Walther P5? I have a P5 manual in German only with the Compact version included at the back. I would like a manual in English. Thank you. Lar

Larry, I'm sorry, I don't know. I don't think it specifies compact, just the P5. Abby

Hi, I'd like to order the Colt c1927 Revolver Police Handbook, item#1102, but I can't seem to figure out how to use your website. When I press the add to cart button it redirects me to the Paypal website, but gives me no other information on how to complete the order. When I click on the view cart icon all it does is open another Paypal page. Is there a simpler way to place an order? Your website doesn't seem to be working correctly. Thank You, Richard Neary

Dear Richard, Paypal may be having an overload with people returning Christmas gifts and that may be the trouble. Many stores now use Paypal as an option for payment and I bet they were just overwhelmed. It may be a bit confusing but we use a simple Paypal shopping cart because Paypal is our "bank". You can pay through Paypal using any credit card and don't need an account with Paypal. The shopping cart will also accumulate selections if you want more than one item. Anyway, I'll ask Abby to send you an electronic "invoice" that you can pay and that should take care of it! Cheers, Rob

Abby, My wife surprises me with three of your reprints for Christmas. She did well getting three that I did not already have. While reading through the Henry’s Repeating Rifle 1865 catalogue, I noticed that page are actually from a Spencer book. In case you are interested, I have a January 1938 Bannerman catalogue with some chipping of cover and most of spine gone. the pages are yellow & a little brittle but intact. Sincerely, James Payne

Dear James, Thanks for your note. My goodness, nobody has noticed that in ten years! I’ll fix it although after 150 years I don’ know where I can get the missing pages. Thanks for mentioning your Bannerman, I do have one, I just have not yet processed it. They take forever to redo but I'll get to it one day. Thanks, Abby

Dear Abby, I would like to purchase Casimir Weber- 1907-8 Moderne Waffen und Munition- Zurich, Suisse, Item #3057, however the shipping charges to Switzerland are more than the value of the book. Would it be possible to ship USPS First Class international instead? If so, how much would this cost? Many thanks, and Merry Christmas! Yours, Mike Burns

Dear Mike, I'm sorry, International Postage is extremely expensive now with the new rates. We try to get reasonably close with our shopping cart but because we print over 5000 different publications, each weighing a different amount and combined different amounts still. Anyway, I always try to refund postage if it is way over and would do that in your case. There is no more sea shipment or first class and that method ruined too much stuff anyway. So, shipping is based on weight and after a certain point you have to go to Priority International. Hope this helps, Happy Holidays, Abby

Dear cornellpubs, Verry expensive delivery. Claude, - mfrc07 (Ebay France)

Dear Monsieur Claude, I agree the shipping is expensive. They raised the rates earlier this year and they are too much money, I think. Sadly, that is what it costs to ship to Europe today from the USA. After I print your publications and weigh them, if shipping is any less I will refund the difference. If shipping is more than you paid, I will pay the extra amount myself. I am sorry the government is so expensive. Happy holidays, Best, Abby

Dear Abby, remmington 742 woodsmaster serial number Comments: could you tell me if there is anyway to look up a remmington serial number on my 742 woodsmaster rifle that i bought in 1993? The rifle was stolen 3 weeks ago and I lost the serial number when my PC crashed 6 weeks ago. Michael Williams

Dear Michael, Not unless your Remington was registered with the seller or the police. On the other hand you may be able to retrieve the information on your computer unless you reformatted the hard drive. Install another hard drive, put windows on it and all the information on the other hard drive should be available. Also, there are computer forensic people who recover crashed drives. Abby

Dear Abby, MERIDEN SXS Comments: FOR YOUR INFO I OWN SN#31848 FRAME D 28 #52 ON RT.ACTION FLAT FRONT BBL LUG has 0 demassus bbl. beautiful wood tight gun nice condition shoot with light skeet loads also w 20 ga.inserts i would like to know the grade nice sidelock. BRIAN RIBAUDO

Dear Brian, Well, that is just great, good for you. You are just the sort of customer who buys our reprints to find out exactly what they have. Look for Meridan at our website and you might get lucky. Rob

Dear Abby, I will order the ones you highlighted. Just a little story if you are interested. My father took me to the Military Inn (Detroit, Mi) when I was four or five and I remember meeting Roy Scates and he signed a copy of this publication for me. I don't know what happened to it after I left home and got married. He told many gunfight stories and we were totally mesmerized. I believe he was in his late 90's if not over 100. I can remember it as if it were yesterday. We had to have chaps and a gunbelt and cowboy hat immediately after that visit. Our trip for vacation that summer was to Dodge City, Kansas, Deadwood, South Dakota and Estes Park, Colorado. Regards, Stu Kleven

Dear cornellpubs, You have the original for sale - got2sell2you

Dear gotto… No, you would have to talk with Graham Greener about that. Rob

Dear cornellpubs, Will this manual cover a Model 94 Winchester .30-30 built in 1970, in detail. Cheers - 54monarch

Dear 54… Probably not. In 1964 most gun companies shifted to using cheaper stamped receivers rather than machined receivers. Yours is one of those and so not exactly the same as the one featured in this manual. Abby

Dick, I have not been able to renew my subscription to Arms Heritage Magazine as I do not give credit card information over the internet and never will. Is there any way that I can pay by check? Actually I would like to simply purchase back-issue annuals from Cornell Publications but they won't even talk to me on the phone. Seems like your fine magazine is a dead end for me. Can you help? Tom Westervelt

Rob- can you help this fellow? , Dick, Publisher of Arms Heritage Magazine

Tom, I'm really concerned about this and wish you would give us a call to sort out whatever you would like. Neither Abby nor I recalls refusing to talk with you so we don't understand your note to Dick. Please call 810-225-3075 and let us help you. Perhaps your concern has to do with credit cards online. The trick of using them online is trusting the site you deal with, not just "using them online", after all every time you use your credit card be it at a restaurant, gas station or department store it goes "online". Anyway, you can always send us a check or money order if you are nervous about us. Rob

Dear cornellpubs, Springfield Armory M1A Carbine Manual Hello: Your photo shows an M1A rifle, but the description says M1A carbine. Does your manual look like the photo? I want a manual for the M1A rifle, not the carbine. Thanks. – rkmorrow (Ebay)

Dear rkmor… Must be a mistake by whoever wrote the advert. Book is as it appears, I’ll fix it. Rob

Dear cornellpubs, Good morning I am interested in your catalog I wish to purchase it if it contains the following firearm sold by navy arms that firearm is a 58cal buffalo hunter. Perhaps if not that year one of your other year navy arms catalogs have that weapon the other one firearm sold at the same time was a Navy arms Hocken Hunter and 58 caliber I m interested in both of those guns being in the catalog please let me know if you can assist thank you for your kind help Joe – jhlanzillo (Ebay)

Dear Joe, I am so sorry, we are just swamped, if I didn't answer your question earlier, please write back in January when I can do some research. Rob

Dear Abby, The flobert gun history by j.t.jovestek Comments: Dear sir/madam Is it possible to order this book from Holland? With kind regards Arno

Dear Arno, We ship worldwide, Abby

Hi Abby, Thanks. Is it possible to get an electronic copy of these also? I’m trying to do research on the engraving of Lancasters and also on the original finish methods of the metal. Copies of copies of copies will degrade my research ability quite a bit. If you’re concerned about protecting your work, would you be willing to send me a digital picture of 1 or 2 of the images from the catalog for closer inspection AFTER I receive the catalogs from you? Also, do you have more Lancaster catalogs that you’ve not yet converted to printed catalogs as of yet? I’m working in earnest to find a catalog photo of a gun similar to the attached picture. It was made in 1896 as a 20bore (20 gauge) and has a single selective trigger and very deep, profound engraving. No gun has surfaced in the past 25 years that matches this gun so I’m hoping a catalog example may explain what it is, what it cost, model name, etc. Regards, Troy Moritz

Troy, Thanks for your note. None of our catalogs come in electronic form. We do have a couple of original Lancaster's but, to be honest, I have no clue where they are, sorry. Cheers, Abby

Abby and Rob: I haven’t been a customer for a while but I still enjoy reading the news letter! I would be interested in anything you have (or not), on Europa Corporations imports of Krieghoff shotguns specifically the grades offered with pictures and pricing from the 1960’s till 1980 Any catalogs would be greatly appreciated as this is one of the few “Marques” I have held on to. Have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS, that tells you where I come from vintage wise (76) !!! Lee.

Lee, I don't think we have any Europa catalogs. If you enter "Krieghoff" in the search bar at the website you will get some hits though. Rob

Dear Abby, Zulu shotgun ? Comments: do we have any thing on Zulu in any of your publications? If so I am interested, I have had one for many years, from my great grandfather (Joplin, Mo)He owned a grocery at the turn of the century (1900) Thanks rob

Dear Rob, Enter the word "Zulu" in the search box for the publications featuring Zulu shotguns and other information (click on the red link to see the catalog index). Abby

Dear Abby, 79 Browning catalog, Comments: I have an original w retail price list in very good to excellent condition. Are you interested in buying? Dan Kryszczuk

Thanks Dan, I appreciate the offer but I only pay for rare catalogs. Those made in the last 50-60 years or so are pretty available from customers who will lend them to me. Abby

Hello Abby, In 1966, MAUSER put out the Model 66 and the 660. Do you have any information on the scope mounts for these guns? Literature? Thank you, William Chapman

Dear William, I am sure we do but to do that sort of research I would have to ask you to look at the section of publications we have that feature that sort of information and choose some titles I can have a quick look at. I'm not really set up to do research. Cornell Pubs Website- Telescopes Abby

Dear cornellpubs, Dan Wesson - The Innovators c1982 Is there anything about the Dan Wesson 44V presentation gun? - altgar (Ebay)

Dear altg... I see nothing about presentation guns. Abby

Dear Abby, your item 1940 is an m60 technical manual. can you e-mail me a clear photo of the front cover ? if not, can you give me the military numbers of the manual on the front cover and date. also book dimensions. thank you . paul

Paul, We now have several M60 manuals available:

Dear Abby, 1981 Colt Python manual. Comments: Here are just two errors in this manual compared to the original. They maybe more. 1.)The color is the brown is wrong. 2.)There is too much spacing between pages to the inside margin. This creates a white border on the left side when the pages are stapled together. Gary Mitchell

Dear Gary, We don't and can't make forgeries of originals. It would be impossible to precisely match the color of inks, paper and binding and still produce over 5000 different publications to order. The reason for this is that very few individual publications sell more than one or two times a year and the cost of making an exact replica of slow selling products like that would be huge. You may return the manual for a refund if you wish. Rob Mouat

Dear cornellpubs, I am not asking for you to tell what holster number 821 is made for, but IF number 821 is listed in the catalog listing of holsters, I will gladly bid/buy one from you, Kindly let me know if it's listed and I shall do the Buy It Now process for one of the catalogs. thank you – outsidebear (Ebay)

Dear outs... None of the Lawrence catalogs have product numbers that high. Abby

Dear Sirs, re: Benardelli manual 4 pg $4.95. Hello, is this printed single sided or double sided? Can you post an example with a watermark through it or email me the same so I can see what it looks like before buying please? My direct email is Thank you! JJBovenzi

Dear Mr. Bovenzi, Double sided, I’m sorry, we have no samples. Rob

Hello! I am look for parker hale catalogs in the 1973 – 1980 window. Or another vendors catalog in those years showing the Parker hale Rings. RAHS 3 and 4. My research project is to identify the year they went from thumb screws that had rounded edges.to square off ones. Many Thanks, Kelly Adams

Kelly, Looks as if those years are not yet part of the collection, sorry. Cheers, Rob

Dear cornellpubs, Iver Johnson 1932 Component Parts Catalog the page for the Iver Johnon sealed 8. Is it a parts diagram (schematic) with the nomenclature of parts listed and drawn with assembly lines and such? – abbahomina (Ebay)

Dear abbaho… No, before the war the concept of "exploded" or isometric parts views had not yet been applied to firearms. Rob

Dear cornellpubs, Do you offer better deal on multiple copes or shipping - cov1971 (Ebay)

Dear cov1... Sure we are happy to combine shipping but because Ebay doesn't give us a simple way to do that so you have to buy them and we refund overages (everything we sell has a different weight, all 5000 of them!). Cheers, Rob

Hello....I placed an order on your website for a 1941 Stoeger Shooters Bible. I didn't see anything indicating the expected turnaround time. I'd like to give it to my father for Christmas. Will it arrive in time? Thanks so much. Kerry Paterson

Hi Kerry, We are running late because of the Christmas rush and the need to write each person who asks about their order (there are just two of us). As you may know, we print to order and that is how we offer 5000 different publications. We got notice you bought the publication last night at 11:30 and it is in the next print order run. It will be posted by Priority and you should get it in time for Christmas. Best, Abby

Dear cornellpubs, It is now 8 days since I transferred the funds to you to purchase this item. The terms of the purchase clearly indicated that the item would be posted at maximum 5 days from receiving the funds. Why has the item not been posted? The items is meant as a gift and I need it before Christmas. Given the delay how are you planning to get the item to me in time? Leo - riggers84 (Ebay)

Dear Leo, As I mentioned in my last note, we were on holiday over Thanksgiving and are working frantically to get caught up. Your order should go out today or tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, we are just two old people working very hard! We did have a notice placed by Ebay over each advert until yesterday that stated there would be a delay due to the holiday and our vacation but we had no control over how big the notice was and some people missed it. Best, Abby

Hello, Marlin 1882 Fire Arms Company Does this book have any references to the Marlin 1881 Lever-Action rifle? Thanks, Lyndsay, UK. - grey_accountant (Ebay)

Dear Lyndsay, There is a Marlin lever action rifle prominently featured in the catalog. Unfortunately they did not identify it as anything other that, the Marlin lever action rifle. Assuming they didn't come out with a new model between 1881 and when they printed the catalog in 1882, that should be what became to be known as the model 1881. I'm not a Marlin expert and if you need further confirmation, you should contact a Marlin expert. Cheers, Abby

Reprients Comments: I'm a collector. Can you supply the Ideal/Lyman Reloding Manuals, loose life for tose that are, in the original size rather than the 8 1/2 x 11? Thanks! Roger Kempfer

Roger, We talked about this when you bought the Lyman catalogs and we told you that because we reprint over 5000 old gun catalogs we have chosen to make them in certain standard sizes so we can make our manufacturing process efficient. Go to the "about us" page and click the link to "catalog Forgeries for more information about this: http://www.cornellpubs.com/about_us.php

Now, you asked about the Ideal catalogs. Most of those are reprinted in "half size" and are folded or thermal bound. Only a few are printed on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. The originals were often a bit smaller than the "half size" reprints but people complained the type and illustrations were too small to read. We made them a bit bigger. Anyway, there is nothing we can do until after the holidays and then, if you are still intent on getting something printed specially for you perhaps we can help. Best, Rob

Hi Abby, Received the manual today & I had to send you a message telling you how impressed I am with the quality of your work, I couldn't be happier! Left a positive feedback on eBay saying pretty much the same thing. Will definitely deal with you again if I need any other manuals & pass on your name to anyone that might need a manual. Thank you very much, Rick

Thank God someone is happy!

Dear cornellpubs, 1964ackley improved. Does this book have the overall case diamentions, trime to length and seating plus loading data – nortonleon (Ebay)

Dear norto… We are not reloaders and can only say that I doubt it. Don't think you should buy it because you might be disappointed. By the way, all ammunition in the Ackley books is listed by caliber and as you don't mention that I wouldn't even know where to begin. Cheers, Rob

Dear Cornell: The catalogue reprint I received from you some time ago was very poorly reproduced. The type was way overexposed. In printing we called it burned up. I hope your others are much better. Richard Binger

Richard, We offer over 5000 different old firearms catalogs and some are great others not so much. I wish you had told us about your problem when you got it and I would have tried to fix the problem because sometimes the printer is low on ink or some other controllable problem. Looking up what you bought I see it was a 140 year old one and I am afraid the thing was just light or as you say “burned up”, sorry. Let us know. Best, Abby

Hi folks, As always I enjoy receiving and reading your newsletter. Today was a special treat. I had a total knee replacement a few weeks ago and this rehab process I needed some extra cheer. As my mom always said"take your belly jogging every day and you will not have room for a sour thought. Today was an extra treat. I needed that. Of course I cherish the several manuals I do have as well as your always thoughtful commentaries. Thank you, Joe Smigo

Thanks for doing what you do. Keep up the good work. Hope the Holiday season is good to you. Best Wishes, Jim Wilson

Dear cornellpubs, sorry.... the manual and' exactly done as the original one? Luciano from Italy - black20maxi (Ebay)

Luciano, No, it is not a forgery of the original and is not the same size, nor is it printed on the same paper as the original... it is nicely printed for information only! Rob

Luciano, No, non è un falso dell'originale e non è la stessa dimensione, né viene stampata sulla stessa carta dell'originale ... è ben stampato solo informazioni! Rob

Ms. Abby, Do any of your Winchester Model 12 Shotgun manuals specify thread pitch of the various screws and bolts or any of your reference books? I am specifically trying to find out the diameter and thread pitch of the carrier plunger screw that is in the carrier assembly on a 12 guage Model 12 (nickel steel barrel manufactured about 1922 by serial #). I have your Model 42 manual but no thread pitch is listed on any of the fasteners. I have additional emails out to parts suppliers for this gun. SIncerely, John C.

John, I don’t know a thing about that, Readers? Abby

Dear cornellpubs, Says c1984 on cover. Does this unit state 1984 on the manual or within the pages? – grudj (Ebay)

Dear Grud... No. We use "c", short for circa meaning "about" when we are uncertain of a date. Sometimes circa is abbreviated as "ca". we use "c" because "ca" confused some folks. Rob

Dear cornellpubs, Hello my name its Sofia, My dad has ask me to get some information about this rifle (Sheridan Air Rifle), he has the same one and he its interested in see where he can ge part for reparation. Please contact me as soon as you can - sofims77 (Ebay)

Dear Sofia, I am sorry but I have no idea where you could get parts for this antique air gun. We don't sell parts, we are publishers. Best wishes, Abby

Mr Mouat, can you please look at the page 4 of the catalog (INDEX-Continued.)?What I am looking for is the page 83 (standard table of pressures). In the copy that you have send to me there is absolutely nothing printed after the page 82.Thank you. - cl0666 (Ebay)

Dear c106... Ah, I see what you mean. Unfortunately, I don't think I can help you with that particular catalog because the fellow who scanned it for us I believe is no longer with us. If it is any help to you, the 1907 Eley catalog we reprint seems to have some pages of pressures. Please tell me if you would like to return your copy for a refund or would you like us to send you the 1907 catalog? Cheers, Rob

Popups and Blockers

Popup Blockers on your computer may block some links in this newsletter from opening. Many people set their browsers to block popups. This popup blocker may make it impossible to see some of the links in this newsletter because the link may ask the program to open in a new window (popup). If you experience this and want to suspend the popup blocker in Firefox go to Tools/Options/Content and click the popup box. in Internet Explorer go to Tools and then Popup Blocker (about in the middle).

* Tired of SPAM? Virginia Carter (our website guru from Carolina Web Creations) says:

1. Never use your main email address when signing up for stuff online. (ie: forums, purchases, etc.) There are many free email services out there (Google, Yahoo, Juno, etc.) where you can create an email address for your online activity and help control spam.

2. Use forwards cautiously - Use BCC (look for the link to open it near your address bar). Cut and paste the addresses you want to send to into BCC and this hides them from hackers and harvesters... helps control spam!

3. Use caution when visiting websites. Just visiting a webpage can infect your computer. Not all No.1 listed sites on Google are safe!

4. If you get an email from someone you don't know, DO NOT OPEN IT. And the most important - if you get an attachment from anyone with an extension of ".exe" - DO NOT OPEN IT! (.exe is an executable program, and once you double click on it, it will run some kind of program on your computer, usually designed to hurt your computer, possibly ruin it!)

5. If you're interested in "cleaning up" your computer to remove possible spamware and malware, you can download free programs like Spybot and Ad-Aware.

At the Cornellpubs website, you will find many gunmaker "master pages" listing all the catalog reprints of one brand. To the right of each "master page" are names of catalogs by merchants who carried that brand of firearms. For example, I reprint over 60 Remington factory gun catalogs but I also reprint over 160 gun catalogs from merchants that sold Remington firearms such as Sears or Abercrombie & Fitch or Spalding. Those are the listings on the right of the page.

Using the merchant links, you can identify a catalog from just about any year that displays the Remington line and by looking at the individual page indexes you can figure out what models were made in what year without spending a dime. Of course I would be happy to sell you those catalogs too! Most major gunmakers have a "master page" and I am adding more all the time.

* Whenever I scan a delicate old catalog I use my book scanner. The catalog hangs over the side of the scanner and only needs to be opened 90 degrees. This puts much less stress on the spine.

So there you have it, a tip that I hope will result in a torrent of eager collectors now willing to let me scan their old gun catalogs... but, please call or write first, don't just send them because I may already have scans of that particular item. I still have hundreds of old catalogs on file that I haven't got to yet.

* How to pay for things on the internet while using your credit card with some safety... You have to make certain the site accepting your credit card is secure. Normally the site URL begins with http: etc. but a secure site has a different beginning. It starts with https:. etc. The "S" means the site is using encryption software and it is pretty safe to send your card information to the company if you trust the company! By the way, do not send your credit card information in an email. Emails are NOT secure!

Many folks call me to give me an order over the telephone because they "don't like to use their credit cards on the internet". Well, every time you use your credit card at stores, banks, gas stations, restaurants or anywhere else, the transaction is recorded on the internet! Do you trust the company you are giving the info to?
