Phillip Crunk shows off the article on youth at festivals in our 2014 Blues Festival Guide (we see he's got our website up his computer screen, too, cool!).
Phillip is a musician, singer and a songwriter out of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. "The future of the blues depends on our youth," agrees Crunk.
Correction: Last week's photo was of Michael Frank of Earwig Records, not Yellow Dog... sorry about that!

Liz Mandeville:: HEART 'O CHICAGO
Liz Mandeville’s Heart ‘O’ Chicago marks her triumphant return to the airwaves with a fresh new statement. 11 smokin' new original songs feature some of Chicago’s finest talent, both seasoned pros and up and coming stars. This release includes two duets with vocalist, bandleader and Chicago Blues Challenge winner, Charlie Love, two songs featuring the harp of Grammy Nominee Billy Branch, two R&B rave ups featuring the legend Eddie Shaw on sax, the debut recording of Blues Harp Biker Dizzy Bolinski and eight flush tracks made richer by Joan Gand’s hands on the keyboards. Plus, there's a full horn section led by hot, young, up and coming trumpet master. Wade Baker. Read more details here...

Rory Block :: HARD LUCK CHILD: A tribute to Skip James
Hard Luck Child: a Tribute to Skip James, the fifth in acclaimed acoustic blues artist Rory Block’s “Mentor Series” of recordings saluting those blues masters who’ve had a profound influence on her music. On her latest album, the multi-Blues Music Award winner pays tribute to Skip James, one of the most important country blues artists in history, whose songs have been recorded by a host of contemporary musicians over the years including Cream, who covered perhaps his most famous song, “I’m So Glad,” on their debut album in 1966.

The 10 tracks on Hard Luck Child include nine original Skip James songs and the Rory Block original composition that opens the album, “Nehemiah James,” which is her telling of James’ story and his impact on others.

Bobby "Hurricane" Spencer :: HURRICANE UNLEASHED
In the guitar-centric blues, tenor saxist Bobby “Hurricane” Spencer earned props as a “force of nature” in the tough Bay Area chitlin’ circuit playing doo wop, Latin jazz and blues. Credits backing the greats, as well as his songwriter skills, led to his solo release I Got the Blues (2003). The title of his latest, Hurricane Unleashed, is no hype as the man with the big horn and robust voice will both overwhelm and seduce listeners with his warm-hearted sound.
Ten originals, including four tracks from his debut album,feature Andrea Balestra and Lester Lands (guitar), Matias Alvear Fall (bass), Dario Benzoni (drums), Mo Beeks (keyboards), Albert Trepagnier, Jr (congas), Tyler Combs (vibes), Josh Agular (trumpet), Wesley Smith (alto sax) and Kelly Chappue, Bosa Mora and Dominique Toney (background vocals).
