Voo Davis :: MIDNIGHT MIST
Guitarist/singer Voo Davis’ Midnight Mist is the third CD from this talented musician whose musical sound gumbo encompasses the roots of blues, with additional flavorings from Americana and jam band spices. Produced by Davis and recorded in organic analog sound at Bogalusa, Louisiana’s Studio in the Country, Midnight Mist includes a bonus video of “Riverside Blues,” filmed in and around Clarksdale, Mississippi, that perfectly captures the spirit of the new music on the album.

“Being able to return to Studio in the Country and expand my guitar sounds was something I really looked forward to on this project,” says Davis about the recording sessions. “The tones were something that I really wanted to play with, not just get stuck on one sound.”

Magic City Blues July 30-Aug 2
BILLINGS, MO - Tim Goodridge thought he would find a music festival to run while he looked for a real job. That was 14 years ago and since then, Magic City Blues has brought more than 150 music acts to Billings and brought people from throughout North America to Billings for what has grown to be a four-day festival with three venues.

Tim and his wife, Pam, had just moved back to Montana after spending a few years living and working in Vancouver, British Columbia, when they came up with the idea of bringing more music to Billings. More details about the Magic City Blues fest

Dig in to Decades of Recordings, Photos and more from folklorist William R. Ferris
CHAPEL HILL, NC - More than 1,000 audio files are now available for streaming from the collection of noted Southern folklorist, documentarian, author and teacher William R. Ferris. Made available by the National Endowment for the Humanities and presented by the Southern Folklife Collection, From the Piedmont to the Swamplands: Preserving Southern Traditional Music is a decades-long overview of life in the region in all its marvelous diversity—songs, prison work chants, gospel services and children playing on a Mississippi porch, all recorded by Ferris.

There are interviews, too, ones in which Ferris largely gets out of the way to let the voices come. There is no order to this procession: Photographer Walker Evans appears alongside faith healer Fannie Bell Chapman, while author Eudora Welty speaks in turn with acoustic blues musician and sculptor James “Son” Thomas. Forgotten Heroes: Johnny "Guitar" Watson
By Michael Ross / Premier Guitar - It seems odd to call someone whose soulful guitar work and flamboyant showmanship influenced artists as diverse (and acclaimed) as Etta James, Frank Zappa, Prince, and Rick James a “forgotten hero.” But, unfortunately, Johnny “Guitar” Watson never achieved the level of fame that those he inspired did—a point that is painfully underscored by the fact that he’s occasionally confused with “Wah- Wah” Watson (also a wonderful player who deserves praise). Johnny “Guitar” Watson had a groundbreaking—if up-and-down— career that spanned five decades of American popular music. A career that included everything from a Grammy nomination to having his drug problem spotlighted on VH1’s Behind the Music.
