Magic Sam Blues Band :: BLACK MAGIC
Recorded on October 23 and November 6, 1968, Black Magic, a masterpiece of 60s electric Chicago blues with soul, was released only days before Magic Sam's untimely passing on December 1, 1969. He was only 32! The album went on to win a W.C. Handy Award in the Classic Blues Album category.
This Digipak Deluxe Edition contains more than an hour of West side Chicago blues at its finest, re-mastered from the original analog tapes and includes two new, previously unreleased tracks. The 16-page booklet contains never-before-seen photos at the recording session, additional color photos from the Ann Arbor Music Festival, the original liner notes from the LP and a new note by producer Bob Koester.  ... Find more details about this release

Wendy DeWitt with Kirk Harwood :: GETAWAY
When Wendy DeWitt, ex-pianist with Hank Ballard and Steve Freund and longtime international boogie woogie favorite known for her power house left hand, joined with the jazz trained force of nature veteran Norton Buffalo drummer Kirk Harwood, the two shared a vision of creating a duo capable of holding its own on any stage. With creative arranging skills and an emotional sense of dynamics, the duo succeeds with a full two fisted style, compelling and rich in texture. Selectively enlisting friends according to each song’s requirements results in a package of songs well rooted in tradition and ready for contemporary ears. ... Find more details about this release

Blues Schools Program Salutes Grammy Winner 2016 Buddy Guy, The Phantom Rolls-Royce of The Blues!
By Dr. Carolyn “Blues Singer” Gaines

Small Delta Towns Chase Elusive Fortunes from the Blues
HELENA, AR- Helena, Arkansas is a pushpin on the map of the American South. Ninety miles south of Memphis and 360 miles north of New Orleans—straddling the Mississippi River—it scrapes out a Delta blues existence.
The 12,000 or so people who live there after a merger with West Helena a decade ago, earn about $26,568 a year, just half of the national average, according to the Census Bureau. The local school district and Wal-Mart WMT, -0.56% are the community’s largest employers, outside of agriculture. And jobs are hard to come by.
The decaying downtown business district can’t give away redevelopment.
What Helena does have is the King Biscuit Blues Festival, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. The festival, named after a popular radio program, originated in Helena during World War II and promoted Delta music.

Local Artists Design Guitars to Honor Local Blues Musician Blind Willie McTell
THOMSON, GA - A new public art project is in the works to honor McDuffie County blues legend Willie McTell. The Thomson-McDuffie County Convention and Visitors Bureau has charged 12 local artists with creating and designing 7-foot-tall polyurethane replicas of the blind musician’s instrument of choice, a 12-string Stella guitar, to be included in the art project dubbed McTell’s 12-String Strut.
The project, designed to recognize and honor McTell and the legacy of his music, enhances the art and history of Thomson to draw in visitors to the birthplace and hometown of the famous musician.
For artists, like McTell himself, interpretation is a key element to design and creativity. And for artist Adrienne Antonson, Braille became her muse for designing her guitar.
