Genre: Chicago Style Blues, Delta Blues, Southern Soul, Alternative Soul
His truly unique, but authentic musical style is influenced by a life lived in the roots music of gospel, rhythm and blues, and soul of eastern North Carolina. With bold vocals reminiscent of past giants like Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf and lyrical sensitivity of practitioners like Taj Mahal, Bill Withers, Keb’ Mo’, Anthony Hamilton or Soul of John Black; this Southern Soul sound is tinged with blues and influences of music steeped in a rich down east tradition developed in classrooms that were the segregated clubs and churches in and near his eastern North Carolina home, Rocky Mount. He utilizes his knowledge of gospel, jazz, and the sounds of the Delta to draw out the best of Chicago Style Blues. Chuck Beattie (aka Dr. Blues), a long time blues aficionado and music historian, is a true musical treasure.
Come and enjoy an evening of Blues with Chuck Beattie. Chuck will be accompanied by a unit of professionals that have graced the national and international stages of the world playing genres spanning the spectrum from zydeco, and jump blues to Jazz, rhythm and blues. With experience spanning over half a century-- this recording artist is a rare find in this day of electronically produced music. Beattie plays blues with passion, honesty and simplicity developed from his legacy of gospel and rhythm-and-blues roots.
Chuck Beattie has long been a fixture in the blues scenes of North and South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia, as well as international venues in Europe, the United Kingdom and Central America. Dr. Blues, as he is affectionately called, prides himself in rendering authentic blues entertainment blended with historical and educational references for a memorable experience. “The music must come first” is his credo for producing music he is proud to present in locales such as corporate events, private events and festivals throughout the world. He has also had the honor to lecture on college, university and public school campuses during the past 15 years.
When referring to Chuck Beattie the founder of CD Baby once said of his music,
“Chicago Style Blues with beefy vocals. A must for those who enjoy Muddy Waters, Taj Mahal, Keb’ Mo’, and Howlin’ Wolf. - Derek Sivers
Chuck will share the stage with a cadre of fine and experienced professional musicians: Bunny Clyde, Marcel Anton, Michael Filippone and Jeff Rudolph.
