Pete Karnes :: BAR ROOM BLUES
Blues Hall of Fame harmonica master Pete Karnes played with many of the legends like Big Walter Horton, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Robert Lockwood, J.B. Hutto, Lightnin' Slim – you can hear the authenticity in his voice and playing. Portland’s own “Boogie Man” says he still ready to “boogie ‘til you drop!” He's a blues harp master, committed to Chicago blues, and Bar Room Blues is true to the blues, featuring his singing and playing harp from the heart. This live CD was recorded at the historic White Eagle Saloon.

Charlie Musselwhite says… “Pete Karnes has a new CD out and it is long overdue. Back in the day there was a tremendous blues scene in Portland. ... Find more details about this release

Award-winning bassist-vocalist Anni Piper’s new album, More Guitars Than Friends, is a ten-song disc with a lively potpourri of sounds, and the first to be released on Piper's own Sugar Daddy Records imprint. "All the original songs on the album were written since I moved to the US about a year ago," states the Australian expatriate now residing c. More Guitars Than Friends was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Solar Studio (using exclusively solar power) in Orlando, Florida.

The track “Wonder Woman” was a 2015 UK Songwriting Contest Top 5 Song Finalist. “It’s where the bass guitar gets a chance to shine in this jump-blues, break-up song," explains Piper. Michael Charles brings blues from down under
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The blues is a universal form of music. Yes, the genre has roots in the United States, but songs about joy and sorrow can be understood in all parts of the world. Such is the case with Australian Michael Charles, who will bring his sounds to the Slippery Noodle (372 S Meridian St, Indianapolis, IN) Inn on March 31.

Over 30 years on the global road, the music of Michael Charles has the heart and history of those who influenced him as a lad (Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, he says) with the grit and power that will satisfy those on a night out at your local live music watering hole. ...Find more about how Charles got inspired

Beverly "Guitar" Watkins, 76 yr old Blues Guitarist
A group called Great Big Story recently posted a documentary dedicated to 76-year-old blues guitarist Beverly "Guitar" Watkins.

"She may have played with James Brown, B.B. King and Otis Redding back in the day, but Beverly 'Guitar' Watkins of the Music Maker Relief Foundation has a style and legacy all her own," writes Great Big Story. "At 76, she's still the queen of blues guitar."

Watkins, who has had a long and continuous musical career, got her start in the late Fifties playing with Piano Red in the Atlanta area. Although she was well known for years within the blues community, like many roots musicians, she found it difficult to crack the airwaves or get noticed by the masses—until the advent of the Internet.

April 2-3, 2016 Radio Show: Wee Willie Walker

Wee Willie Walker was a soul and gospel singer back in the heyday of soul music. He never really caught fire the way some others did. But forty years later he met a couple of fans - the front man and guitar player from the Nightcats. They said, hey, do you want to come to California and make a soul record with us? He said, sure. So… they did.

The one-man soul revival of Wee Willie Walker. Next time in the Bluesmobile.
