RB Stone :: SOME CALL IT FREEDOM (some call it the blues)
Written and produced by RB Stone, Some Call It Freedom (some call it the blues) on Middle Mountain Music, is his third blues/roots album and 17th project to date. It’s the follow up to the successful multi-charted, Blues Blast-nominated Loosen Up album he did with Tom Hambridge. It remained in the charts over 8 months. Like Loosen Up, Some Call It Freedom is an up tempo collection of 11 songs with a combination of several styles of blues with Stone’s stamp on it all.

Mississippi Hill Country and Delta Blues (power duo and trio formats) can be found in “Hill Country Stomp” (a nod to the legends and newer Hill Country artists), “Another Thief,” “You Don’t Want Me,” “Weapons of Mass Persuasion,” and “Nickajack.” “Nickajack” is a slice of Appalachia meets Mississippi Hill Country.

The Dave Muskett Acoustic Blues Band
:: LIVE AT THE SLIPPERY NOODLE INN
Dave Muskett, 2014 International Blues Challenge Semi-Finalist and 2015 IBC Finalist (duo Muskett & Carnes), embarks upon the latest chapter in his evolving career with The Dave Muskett Acoustic Blues Band’s latest recording Live At The Slippery Noodle Inn. The album boasts 12 all original compositions including seven new, previously unreleased tracks showcasing Muskett’s abilities as a musician, songwriter, and live performer.

The core of the band’s sound comes from the Piedmont finger-style blues guitar Dave fell in love with many years ago. Thumb-picked bass lines with some three-finger melody work is usually a solo man’s game. To mix that style into a band format took some heavy duty re-thinking of the hard and fast rules of making a “Blues Band.” ... Find more details about this release

“Blues Society,” a new film documentary about Memphis Country Blues Festivals in the 1960s, needs funding
MEMPHIS, TN - Blues Society is a movie about a collective of artists and musicians in Memphis who loved blues music enough to change the way we think about it. Directed by Augusta Palmer, daughter of the late, legendary New York Times music critic Robert Palmer, this documentary captures the Memphis Country Blues Festival between 1966 and 1969, a time when blacks and whites came together in a city full of strife and segregation. The film has an amazing cast of characters like Furry Lewis, Fred McDowell, Jim Dickinson, Bukka White, Rev. Robert Wilkins and Bob Palmer. A crowd-funding campaign to raise money for the film has only about 7 days left to reach its goal.

Barbara Newman recaps her 1st BMA Week as Blues Foundation Prez... plus video of HOF Ceremony & Inductees
Hello Blues Fans!
You'd think I would be exhausted after a full week of welcoming, talking, listening, greeting, organizing, eating, and dancing. But my first Blues Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony followed by the 37th Blues Music Awards was so energizing that I am still flying on the remnants of the adrenaline that created my recent Blues High. This entire newsletter is dedicated to all of the excitement that was generated by the biggest blues party of the year. You will see [some] photos [here], taken by our wonderful cadre of photographers.
I am also hopeful that these images and stories will inspire everyone to save the date on your calendar for next year: The 38th Blues Music Awards will be held at the Memphis Cook Convention Center on Thursday, May 11, 2017!...

The Blues Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Inductee Videos
MEMPHIS, TN - The Blues Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was held May 4, 2016 at the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts and Education in Memphis, TN. The Blues Hall of Fame was formed in 1980 to honor the blues men and women, whether performers or industry, for their lifetime of work in creating and moving forward the blues genre. It is the format to acknowledge the most important pieces of blues music and blues literature. This year, The Blues Foundation was honored to induct 5 performers, 2 members of industry, 5 singles, an album, and a piece of literature into the Blues Hall of Fame. For the first time, The Blues Foundation opened the ceremony to the public and included personal and video tributes to our inductees. Prior to the actually ceremony, those in attendance enjoyed some time to visit with each other during an hour long cocktail reception. ...Find links to Blues Foundation's YouTube channel and various videos surrounding this event
