Mike Wheeler :: TURN UP!!
One of Chicago’s hardest working groups, the Mike Wheeler Band, is back with their sophomore recording on Delmark, Turn Up!! The CD features Wheeler’s long time, ultra-tight band of Larry Williams on bass and background vocals, Cleo Cole on drums, Brian James on keys and background vocals, plus the legendary Chicago Horns of Kenny Anderson on trumpet and Hank Ford on tenor sax. This is funky, electrifyin’, modern, original Chicago Blues at its best and most entertaining.

Turn Up!! is packed full of catchy, killer original songs, with a standout cover of Little Milton’s classic, “That’s What Love Will Make You Do.” Mike truly excels at the funky, soul-drenched, up-tempo rockers like the title track, “Yeah!,” “Sweet Girl,”, and “I’m Hooked.” He gets lowdown and funky on slower ballads...  ... Baton Rouge’s Kenny Neal aches over his city’s violence
A patriarch of Baton Rouge’s first family of music says his “heart is broken on both sides” after that city’s recent tragedies.

“We’ve got to come together and make things right,” said Kenny Neal, who was close with people involved. Three police officers were killed Sunday [July 17] and another three wounded in what has been described as an “ambush-style” attack, which occurred less than two weeks after a Baton Rouge man was shot to death by police.

Neal arrived home from New York that day.

“I was here a week before last and the tensions were high,” Neal said. “People were very upset. We’ve got to get together and make this right and make this better for everybody. I am friends with a lot of these officers.

Hayward Russell City Blues Festival does it again!
(Hayward, CA) - The Hayward Russell City Blues Festival roared into downtown Hayward over the weekend of July 9th and 10th and we were among the crowd. This year the theme was "Let’s Do It Again,” bringing in some of the past favorite acts and also some new blood. In its 17th years on the grounds of the Hayward City Hall, the festival annually reminds locals and visitors alike of the robust blues scene that resonated in Russell City, just a few miles west, on the edge of San Francisco Bay.

Produced by Ronnie Stewart and Co-Producer, Velma Landers, the West Coast Blues Society, and a host of volunteers, the festival features entertainers with roots in Russell City and the East Bay, including but not limited to Bobby Webb, Fillmore Slim, Sonny Rhodes who made his home in the Bay area for many years and BigCat Tolefree. Headliners Carl Weathersby on Saturday and Bobby Rush on Sunday provided a mix of....
