Mike Sponza :: ERGO SUM
Italian blues musician Mike Sponza recorded Ergo Sum -- the title is Latin for "Therefore I am" -- at London's famed Abbey Road Studios, with two very special guests: the legendary British blues vocalist Dana Gillespie, whose career dates back to the 1960s, and multiple Blues Music Award- nominated guitarist and vocalist Ian Siegal, who has worked closely with such blues-roots acts as Jimbo Mathus and North Mississippi Allstars. These 8 songs were translated from Latin poems carefully chosen by Sponza, and with the assistance of Ian and Dana were crafted into contemporary blues songs for all of us to appreciate!

"Human passions have no age," Sponza writes in the liner notes. "I've discovered there's a trait d'union between the ancient poems of Catullus, Horatius, Martialis, Juvenalis and the lyrics of Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters and Bob Dylan. ...Complete details about this release here

Brothers Brown :: DUSTY ROAD
Dusty Road, the debut album by the Brothers Brown, unveils a dynamic new presence in American roots music. It’s dozen songs—buoyed by a superb level of songwriting and musicianship—recall the work of such seminal groups as the Band and Creedence Clearwater Revival in their ability to create a sense of place and time, or, rather, timelessness, as well as emotional depth. This new union of four powerful writers, players and producers from Nashville and Los Angeles also has a similar ensemble approach, with multiple vocalists and uncanny interplay.

The Brothers Brown are fronted by two musicians named Paul Brown. One is a double Grammy winning producer, guitarist, singer and songwriter from Los Angeles. The other is a Grammy nominated producer, keyboardist and songwriter based in Nashville. The band is completed by a virtuosic rhythm section... Complete details about this release here

Women in Blues will open the Daytona Blues Festival Friday, October 7

(Daytona Beach, Florida) – The seventh annual Daytona Blues Festival opens Friday, October 7, with a powerhouse line up of all women fronted bands. Starting at 2:30 pm, historic Jackie Robinson Ballpark in beautiful downtown Daytona Beach will come alive with the sounds of some of today’s most talented women playing their unique and exciting versions of the blues. From rising star Vanessa Collier to international sensation Shakura S’Aida, with Carolyn Wonderland channeling some Janis Joplin in between, Friday’s artists personify what it means to be a woman in the blues.

Friday’s headliner, Shakura S’Aida, arrives in Daytona Beach from Brooklyn, New York, via Switzerland and Toronto, Canada. A Florida performance by Shakura is a relative rarity and no wonder. When not touring in the United States or Canada, Shakura has been seen in... Find full article and photos here
Blues Lovers Step Up To Support Musicians Impacted By The Louisiana Floods
(Hillsborough, NC) - The Music Maker Relief Foundation has created the Baton Rouge Musicians Fund (BRMF). The fund was created in partnership with the Baton Rouge Blues Foundation and will directly support musicians impacted by the Louisiana Flood.

Beginning August 12, 2016, heavy rains fell over the state of Louisiana. The record-breaking flooding, caused by the nearly seven trillion gallons of rain that fell, has damaged more than 60,000 homes.

One of the damaged homes belongs to 91 year-old blues pianist Henry Gray, a native of Kenner, Louisiana. Gray, who still tours both solo and with his band, Henry Gray and the Cats, has traveled the world playing the blues with the Rolling Stones, Howlin' Wolf and countless others. Despite his success on the global stage, Gray still lives in a humble home, and like 54 percent of home owners in the flood zone, has no flood insurance.

Blues Birthday Heroes: Singer Carolyn Gaines Honors Roy Gaines, Buddy Guy, Junior Kimbrough, Blind Boy Fuller
What do Buddy Guy, Roy Gaines, Blind Boy Fuller, Junior Kimbrough and Carolyn Gaines have in common? Other than all five being blues artists, their birthdays have recently been celebrated. While the first four musicians are all well-known blues legends, Carolyn Gaines (Roy Gaines’ daughter) is an up-and-coming blues singer who has already made major contributions to the blues as a teacher keeping Buddy Guy, Leadbelly, Shemekia Copeland, T-Bone Walker, Big Mama Thornton, Bobby Blue Bland, Joe Scott, Johnny Lang, Guitar Shorty, her uncle Grady Gaines, B.B. King, and Roy Gaines’ names alive behind the scenes. She has also been inspired by the four veterans and performs her own fresh interpretations of some of their songs.

Buddy Guy, who ranks as the most famous living blues artist, celebrated his 80th birthday this July 30.
