Get Out and About!

I don't know about you but on these cool, fall days I just want to hunker down and enjoy a choice beverage and some warm comfort food. Of course the real life schedule for me (and likely most of you as well) dictates a bit more forward momentum is needed. Hopefully you are  readily motivated because there continues to be an ongoing, and exciting list of music events being hosted by Ozark Blues Society. Ticket sales for the "Evening With Bob Margolin" have been brisk. All of our VIP seating has been snapped up....but not to worry, in the intimate setup at Sunrise Stage, all seating is table seating and there is not a bad seat in the house! Check out the article below and visit our website www.ozarkbluessociety.org to grab one of the limited number of tickets left!
Featured again this week is the article
on our 2017 Blues Challenge winners
as well as a mark your calendar item for our January Fundraiser.

As always, I encourage you to keep an eye on the calendar below.  I put some unique opportunities in every now and again to remind you we really have a healthy and exciting music community
in Northwest Arkansas.
As always you can always drop me a
note and let me know of upcoming shows and events as well as ideas of what you would like to see in this Newsletter.

********
A Boston native born in 1949, Bob Margolin was inspired by Chuck Berry and started playing guitar at age 15 in local clubs. He was hired by Muddy Waters in 1973.

Muddy’s band toured the world and jammed with many great blues and rock musicians, “but the biggest thrill was playing Muddy’s Blues with him.”  Muddy brought Margolin with him to special shows and recordings, when he sometimes didn’t use his whole band, to give him a familiar sound when working with other musicians. In 1975, they recorded Grammy Award-winning “Muddy Waters Woodstock Album”, Muddy’s last for Chess Records, which featured Paul Butterfield, and Levon Helm and Garth Hudson from The Band. In ‘76, Muddy brought Margolin with him to San Francisco to perform at The Band’s “Last Waltz” concert. Martin Scorsese filmed the concert for the classic film. “As it happened, only one camera was operating during our performance, zooming in or out, and since I was standing right next to Muddy, I was in every shot while he sang a powerful ‘Mannish Boy.'”  Margolin also played on the four albums that Muddy recorded for Blue Sky Records, which were produced by Johnny Winter, and with Johnny on his Nothin’ But The Blues album. Three of those albums won Grammy Awards.

Margolin left Muddy’s band in 1980 and formed his own band. He released many albums from 1989 through 1993, and in 1996, his "Tribute to Muddy Waters" was nominated for a Grammy. Margolin appeared on the Kennedy Center Tribute to Muddy Waters in 1997, and the DVD of the event was released the next year. Bob has played on several Grammy-winning recordins, won numerous Blues Music Awards from the Blues Foundation, and is a Keeping The Blues Alive Award recipient for journalism. Bob was invited to play on the original "Last Waltz", and was a featured player on the recent "Last Waltz" tours.

"My Road" is Bob's latest recording, produced by Grammy-winning producer Michael Freeman. He'll be playing many of his originals from that recording, as well as many others he has played throughout his long career.

"Somebody once said we never know what is enough until we know whats more than enough.

My grandmother, she say I shouldn't be playing. I should go to church. Fially, I say I'm going do this, I'm going do it. And she got where she didn't bother me about it.
