 Laurie Morvan :: GRAVITY
Laurie Morvan (More-Van) delivers a double dose of fun on her new album, Gravity, as she shines on stellar guitar work and soaring vocals. For her sixth full-length album, Morvan partners with acclaimed drummer/producer Tony Braunagel and his team of A-list players at Ultratone Studios to record 12 fresh tracks of commercial blues rock and soul. Originally scheduled to be recorded back in 2014, the project was delayed when Laurie suffered a wrist fracture that required two surgeries over the next couple of years. Releasing this album is especially meaningful for Laurie, and the whole band is energized to be sharing this exciting new music with fans.

The album opens appropriately with bass drum thump and Stratocaster boogie, on the hard driving “My Moderation,” demonstrating the alliance between the drummer and the lead vocalist/guitarist, which sets the tone for all to come. Morvan’s voice draws comparisons to Christine McVie as her throaty alto leads the charge on the edgy “Twice The Trouble,” and the persuasive blues “Stay With Me,” while her stinging guitar leads are braced by hot Hammond B3 from ace Mike Finnigan.

Mud Morganfield :: THEY CALL ME MUD
They Call Me Mud on Severn Records, is the newest CD from singer Mud Morganfield, son of legendary blues icon, Muddy Waters. Produced by Mud Morganfield and Rick Kreher (who also plays guitar on the CD), They Call Me Mud was recorded at Joyride Studios in in Mud’s Chicago hometown. Mud penned 10 of the album’s 12 songs, with two others coming from his illustrious father’s catalog, “Howling Wolf” and “Can’t Get No Grinding.”

A stellar cast of Chicago area musicians adds some authentic, downhome blues touches to the recording, including Billy Flynn on guitar, Studebaker John on harmonica and backing vocals, Sumito Ariyo Ariyoshi on piano, E.G. McDaniel on bass and Melvin “Pookie Stix” Carlisle on drums. Special guests include Billy Branch on harmonica, Mike Wheeler on guitar and Mud’s daughter Lashunda Williams, who joins her dad on a loving duet, “Who Loves You,” where Mud gets to stretch out on some of his R&B grooves. There’s also a horn section featured on several tunes, and Mud, himself, plays bass on three tracks.  ...Find more about this artist and release

Sonny Landreth, Shana Morrison, and Thursday Night Magic at Gator By the Bay
by Wendy Lemlin
(SAN DIEGO, CA) - Because there’s no such thing as too much outstanding music, San Diego music festival Gator By the Bay added a Thursday night kick-off concert to its schedule a few years back. The Thursday concerts became an instant success, featuring internationally known artists, enjoyed in a more intimate, laid back atmosphere. On May 10, the tradition continues when Gator By the Bay proudly presents world-renowned, Louisiana-based slide guitarist, Sonny Landreth as the evening’s headliner. Taking the slot before Sonny will be Shana Morrison and Caledonia and opening the eclectic evening will be the gypsy jazz group, Zzmzzy Quartet.

The twice Grammy-nominated and multiple Blues Music Awards winner Sonny Landreth released his first live album in 12 years last June. Live in Lafayette, is a 90+ minute two-disc production recorded during three separate performances in Landreth’s home area of Lafayette, LA. One disc encompasses a wholly acoustic set, the other wholly electric. Of the album that won him his second Grammy nomination...
