Tommy "Blue Sky" McCoy :: COAST TO COAST JUMP
Tommy "Blue Sky" McCoy has released his new CD, Coast to Coast Jump, and it is BMA bound. Green Swamp Records has submitted it to the Blues Music Awards for 2019. This is Tommy's 9th CD and his best to date. "This is a modern jump blues record," McCoy notes, "combining traditional elements of West coast jump with my contemporary songwriting, bare-bones production and minimalist combo interplay."

Recorded at Greaseland Studio in San Jose with Kid Andersen who helped enlist an all-star lineup to record this most relevant album. The end result… a smart, well produced, original jump CD, featuring blues luminaries with performance off the charts. Start with Mitch Woods, piano extraordinaire, who put a touch of class on the ivories, followed with Jimmy Pugh blowin' up the B3, as does Nancy Wright on the sax and McCoy's unique guitar style. All 11 cuts are strong recordings, with first-rate performance, showcasing original McCoy compositions, all but one, a cover of Zappa's iconic "Cosmik Debris" featuring Rick Estrin bringing the characters to life...

18th annual Big Bend Blues and Brews Bash set for this Friday and Saturday
POMEROY, OH) — Two nights of explosive live music and a local craft beer festival will highlight the 18th annual Big Bend Blues & Brews Bash, which takes place Friday and Saturday, July 27-28 at the Pomeroy Riverside Amphitheater in historic, downtown Pomeroy, Ohio.

Affectionately called “The Bash” by blues aficionados nationwide, this home-grown music festival along the Ohio River has blossomed into one of the premier events for both performers and fans of live blues music. The festival, which is the brainchild of Jackie Welker, Pomeroy Blues and Jazz Society President and owner of legendary local juke joint, Court Street Grill, has been going strong for 17 years and this year’s event promises to continue with its tradition of incredible music and jam-packed audiences.

“Each year, we keep thinking that it can’t get any better. But each year, we’re completely blown away by the incredible musical performances and amazing crowds,” said Welker. “We anticipate this year to be no different.”

Henry Turner, Jr. To Receive Slim Harpo Music Award For Blues In Baton Rouge
Bryce Berman/Offbeat
Blues, soul and funk musician Henry Turner, Jr. has used his musical platform to celebrate philanthropists and musicians in the Baton Rouge area. The city, aware of how much Turner has contributed to its music scene, is awarding him with the 2018 Slim Harpo Blues Award. Turner was named an “Ambassador” for his efforts to represent and share his enthusiasm for blues with music enthusiasts. It is an incredible honor that he shares with other 2018 recipients, Shannon Williford (“Legend”) and Mamie & Smokehouse Porter (“Pioneers”). Previous recipients of the Slim Harpo Music Award include Van Morrison, Keith Richards, Alvin Batiste, Buddy Guy and many others.

The Slim Harpo Blues Awards Ceremony is named for James Moore, a.k.a Slim Harpo, a Baton Rouge jazz musician who went on to popularize Louisiana roots music and influence the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, Van Morrison and more. The Awards celebrate individuals who have followed in the footsteps of Slim Harpo, sharing their passion for blues and supporting Baton Rouge musicians. …Read entire article here
