Trudy Lynn :: BLUES KEEP KNOCKIN’
Six-time Blues Music Award nominee Trudy Lynn newest CD is Blues Keep Knockin’ from Connor Ray Music. Backing Trudy’s vocals on the new disc are musicians Steve Krase – harmonica; David Carter – guitar; Terry Dry – bass; Matt Johnson – drums; Jim Brady – trumpet; and Dan Carpenter – sax; with special guests Bob Lanza and Carolyn Wonderland on guitar.

“I want to thank all my blues fans new and old, or should I say ‘mature,’ for being with me through my journey with the blues, both near and far,” Trudy says in the album liner notes. “My name is Trudy Lynn and I sing the blues for you, some old some new and some borrowed too. I love singing the blues! The blues knocks on my door, on my window and my heart. I must sing, and I sing only what I feel, and I sing to make you feel exactly what I feel!”

Blues Keep Knockin’ features ten soul-drenched songs dripping with blues and R&B.  ...Find more about this artist and release

Waydown Wailers :: BACKLAND BLUES
Roots and blues rock quartet, Waydown Wailers, hail from the small town of Canton in upstate New York, the borderland region on the Saint Lawrence River that the locals refer to as the “Backlands,” an area infamous for being settled by independent free-thinking people, and thus a fitting title for the band’s third album Backland Blues. The Wailers deliver their unique twist on the blues, they call “Outlaw Jam,” mixing influences from jam band icons the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers with touches of British invasion pop and folksy Americana and Country into a gritty, unpredictable sonic strew.

The eleven tracks on Backland Blues include three inspired covers and eight original songs written by the Parker brothers, David and Christian, who handle the guitar work backed by the stout rhythm section of Connor Pelkey on bass and Michael “Scruffy” Scriminger on drums.

The album opens with good old fashioned twelve bar juke joint jam “Back Door Woman Blues,” with producer, “Professor Louie,” sitting in with the fellas on honky-tonk piano. ...Find more about this artist and release

Chicago Plays The Stones Oct 12
(CHICAGO, IL) Chicago blues icons have united together to give the Rolling Stones a remarkable rebirth. Released on September 14th, 2018, Chicago Plays the Stones is the first CD project of its kind to bring the music of Jagger and Richards back to their spiritual home. Chicago Plays the Stones live will appear October 12th at Chicago's City Winery (1200 W Randolph St.) and feature some of the fine artists on the CD like Ronnie Baker Brooks, Billy Brunch, Jimmy Burns, John Primer, and Omar Coleman. The first show is sold out, but tickets are still available for the late show at 10pm.

The gritty, urban, amplified and electrifying sound of Chicago blues was tapped by the original rock ’n’ rollers of the ’50s and even more so by the Rolling Stones starting in the mid-’60s. Blues titans like Muddy and Buddy Guy recognized and benefited from the Stones’ outspoken adoration of them and their Windy City brethren, and a long-lasting cross-continental kinship was born.

 Blues Music in Movies
By Stephen Hall/Ruminating-Culture
I love blues music, I have read plenty of books about the blues and I enjoy movies about the blues, or where the blues is a major focus in the soundtrack. The list below is some of the movies I have enjoyed, and they are in no particular order:

The John Landis directed Blues Brothers
It goes without saying. This somewhat oddball movie is a cult classic and includes cameos of James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and John Lee Hooker along, with a star-studded band.
The Dennis Hopper directed The Hot Spot

A drifter takes a job as a used car salesman in a small Texas town, he develops an interest in the wife of dealership’s owner. Needless to say, they have a torrid affair. Soundtrack includes both John Lee Hooker and Miles Davis, along with Taj Mahal and Roy Rogers. An amazing soundtrack.

Oh, Brother Where Art Thou?
A Coen Brothers comedy set in 1937 rural Mississippi during the Great Depression.  ...Find the list and music insights of Stephen Hall
