Christmas Party Nov 24 for Toys for Tots & Food Bank
(NORTH CANTON, OH) – The Northeast Ohio Blues Association (NEOBA) will hold it’s “Blues Christmas Party” this Saturday, Nov 24. Doors 6pm, showtime 7pm-11pm at the North Canton Eagles (6979 Sunset Strip North, Canton, OH). Music starts with solo artist Mike Lenz followed by fan favorites Jake James and The Brighter Side Band.

Admission is a new unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item. Cash donations also accepted. Food will be available from 6pm-8:30pm.

In 2006 a small group of Blues music lovers got together and decided to do their part to keep the Blues Alive.

In 2010 they became an affiliate of the International Blues Foundation. As part of that organization, they have held 4 successful Blues Music competitions and sent local artists to Memphis to compete with performers from across the globe. Some of their winners have progressed to the semi-final and final round which is a huge honor and speaks to the quality of musicians in their area. They also supported the “Raise the Roof” campaign for construction of a Blues Hall of Fame in Memphis, TN.

Tennessee Music Pathways has multiple stops in Jackson
The state of Tennessee has played a role in producing the soundtrack of America as the Volunteer State is home to seven genres of music, according to Tennessee Tourism Commissioner Kevin Triplett — blues, bluegrass, country, gospel, soul, rockabilly and rock ‘n’ roll.

The state wants to share the legends through the Tennessee Music Pathways, which is essentially a trail of sites throughout the state that tells the stories about the artists and the music they've made.

“Everybody knows a lot of the stories about Elvis (Presley), Dolly (Parton), Tina (Turner) and Carl (Perkins), and we want to tell those stories,” Triplett said. “But we also want to tell the stories not as many people have heard of — like the original ‘Sonny Boy’ John Lee Williamson in Jackson, or the Rock-a-billy Hall of Fame and Museum, or Denise LaSalle or Luther Ingram — all of these people are from Jackson and played important roles in influencing American music and more.”

Triplett also mentioned a partnership with Rolling Stone in which they’re building a database of musicians from all genres, where a reader can make a connection from any artist to Tennessee within six steps.

Blues event raises money for Thanksgiving meals
(LANSING, MI) - More local organizations are trying to help those in need this Thanksgiving including the Capital Area Blues Society. Sunday [Nov 18] was the annual fundraiser put on by the group, along with the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

Four local bands performed at the event. To see the bands, people were asked to bring a $10 donation and a food item to be donated to the food bank.

Denise Lynch from the Capital Area Blues Society told News 10 why they hold the event.

"It was recognized that there was a need in the community and it has not really stopped through the years, so it's a worthy cause that we continue on with every year."

The Blues Society supports blues, music, and promotes education.
