Anthony Geraci :: WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GO
Why Did You Have to Go is keyboardist and multi-Blues Music Award nominee Anthony Geraci latest CD. Geraci assembled an impressive cast of musicians to perform with him, including guitar legend Ronnie Earl, as well as many Blues Music Award nominees/winners, such as Sugar Ray Norcia, Monster Mike Welch, Michael Mudcat Ward and Neil Gouvin (all fellow members with Geraci in Sugar Ray and the Bluetones). Other guests include singers Sugaray Rayford, Michelle “Evil Gal” Willson, Willie J. Laws, Dennis Brennan and Brian Templeton; guitarists Kid Ramos and Troy Gonyea; bassist Willie J. Campbell; drummers Jimi Bott and Marty Richards; and a mighty horn section of “Sax” Gordon Beadle and Doug Woolverton. The CD package also features extensive liner notes by respected journalist and editor of Blues Music Magazine, Art Tipaldi.

“As a songwriter and arranger, I chose each musician for their individual talents that I knew would sound awesome on the songs they were singing and playing on,” Geraci says about the album sessions. “The recording process can always be a daunting experience. Being surrounded by musicians that are your friends is a very special feeling.  ...Find more about this artist and release

Hadden Sayers ::
DOPAMINE MACHINE/ACOUSTIC DOPAMINE
Veteran Texas singer, songwriter and guitar slinger Hadden Sayers has a unique style all his own, a style that pairs taste and soul with blues-rock firepower. With the Dopamine Machine project, his ninth studio recording, the amps are cranked and the guitars set on blistering, ranging from the swaggering “Peppermint Patty” to the longing “Waiting Wanting” and the explosive “Backbreaker.” His blues rocks and he doesn’t sound like anyone else on the scene.

When he's not performing his own music, he plays guitar for Ruthie Foster, who contributed vocals to this unique double-disc project which includes Acoustic Dopamine, featuring stripped-down, acoustic versions of the album’s tracks. Sayers sat on his bed with a 1954 Gibson acoustic and rearranged the whole album as a solo acoustic set. He then took it into the studio to also make a raw, pure version of Dopamine Machine, capturing the emotional intensity of each song.It was hard to pick a sample in general so this week you get 1 each but it still doesn’t encompass the range Sayers offers on these albums! Sample all on his website. ...Find more about this artist and release

Blind Boys & Ruthie for Christmas Dec 14
(JACKSON HOLE, WY) – Experience The Blind Boys of Alabama Christmas Show featuring Ruthie Foster, Friday Dec 14, 7pm at The Center Theater (265 S Cache St.) in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

This holiday season, the Blind Boys of Alabama are touring in support of their latest Christmas album, Talkin' Christmas! That album features blues legend Taj Mahal and includes several original holiday songs. This special concert will include songs from the Talkin' Christmas! album as well as the band's previous Grammy-winning Christmas recording, “Go Tell It on the Mountain" along with Blind Boys' Gospel classics and other gems from a 70-plus-year career.

Sharing the bill is Ruthie Foster who has been nominated for three Grammys, and has won multiple Blues Music and Austin Music Awards, plus the Grand Prix du Disque from Académie Charles-Cros in France. Hailing from the tightly knit musical community of Austin, Texas, this award-winning singer-songwriter has found herself duetting with Bonnie Raitt, standing on stage with the Allman Brothers at New York’s Beacon Theater, and trading verses with Susan Tedeschi. ...Find more about this Christmas show
Dec 15 Harvey 'Ole Harv' Stauffer celebrates 35 years of his Radio Show on WVPE-FM
(SOUTH BEND, IN) – On Saturday Dec 15 will be a celebration of 35 years of Harvey "Ole Harv" Stauffer's "Blues Revue" radio show on WVPE-FM (88.1). The concert will feature JR Clark and the All-Star Blues Mob, and Billy Branch and the Sons of Blues at Vegetable Buddies, 129 N. Michigan St., South Bend, Indiana. Showtime is 7pm and tickets are $20.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of his “Blues Revue” radio program on WVPE-FM (88.1), Harvey “Ole Harv” Stauffer brought in the legendary Koko Taylor for a gig at Z.B. Falcons in South Bend. That was a pretty big deal, but it turns out that he was only just getting started.

Every five years, there’s been another anniversary celebration at a local venue, and the list of headlining stars has gotten quite impressive: Rod Piazza, Larry McCray, Michael “Iron Man” Burks, Deanna Bogart. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the program, and Stauffer’s bash features two top bands this time around.  ...Find more about this celebration

The 2019 Blues & Roots Grammy Nominees
Every year we are anxious to see who will get recognized in the Blues Grammy category. It’s always strange though to have to scroll forever to find them when we feel they should be first on the long list (instead of like 49th). After all, the Blues is the roots, and all the rest are the fruits, as the great Willie Dixon had so eloquently stated! I also scroll through other categories, as you can see, to discover if other Blues-Roots-Soul artists have been singled out (click “find more” to see). And a few have. Congratulations to all the nominees.

Stax Music Academy New Executive Director named
Memphis Flyer
(MEMPHIS, TN) - The Soulsville Foundation announced Wednesday that Memphis music veteran Pat Mitchell-Worley will be the new executive director of its Stax Music Academy. Mitchell-Worley, who began teaching part time in the academy’s after school program in 2017, has served as interim director since July.

Mitchell-Worley is a familiar face and name on the Memphis music scene. She has been co-host of Beale Street Caravan for almost 20 years, a globally syndicated roots radio show broadcast from Memphis. Her voice can be heard narrating selections in The B.B. King Museum, Cotton Museum, Mississippi River Museum, and numerous documentaries on Memphis history and music. She regularly hosts Artist Q&As for organizations such as the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi and Oxford American.

She is also the founder of her own music-related community relations firm, FanFareCR, and prior to that served as the development director for the Memphis Music Foundation.
