Got Imaginary Letters?
Imaginary letters that create our own authentic path are born of our intuition and inventiveness,.

The creative process is filled with imaginary letters, numbers, and wombats.  Instead of going from A to B it's more like Whim to Weird to Otherworldly to Wonderful if you let go of rigid expectations and oppressive perfectionism.

For me, the creative process
goes forward three spaces,
back five,
side-ways two,
skinny dips in vulnerability,
tap dances in underwear,
slips on the ice,
takes longer than I thought,
can feel like chaos and look like crap.
But then,
with determined perseverance, revved-up tolerance,

astronomical expectations lowered a hundred tads,
some well-placed questions,

creativity invites me into its effortless expression, a piece of writing is delivered, a painting gets done.

but....
Perseverance
is key.

“Excitement about things became a habit, a part of my personality, and the expectation that I should enjoy new experiences often engendered the enjoyment itself.”
― Doris Kearns Goodwin

Watching hundreds of people with intentions for creative dreams, I see a clear pattern of those who succeed. The people who have a passion for the process keep showing up with an undying energy for what they do, maybe not everyday, and definitely not perfectly, but more days than not.

Or after being gone for awhile, they return with new dedication to persist knowing a break can restore energy.  They are determined, giving up never enters their minds.

Showing-up in the creative process can look different ways. For me, I fuel my perseverance by making sure I regularly ask questions that program my subconscious more than require immediate answers:
  • How can I make this easier?
  • What attracted me to this in the first place?
  • How can I break it down so small that it's hard not to do it?
  • Do I need a walk right now?
  • What if the world's survival depended on me getting to my writing? (okay, that one works only on Mondays)
  • How can I make it fun?
One way to make it fun is by reframing "have to's" and "shoulds" to:

"I get to ... ..." Free PDF "I get to"  to help

"I get to write" "I get to publish a newsletter" I get to get the word out about what I do," entices me much more often to show-up than "I should ..." or "I have to..."

Try using I get to.. in front of ALL the items on your To Do list and watch what happens.

Parallel Universe Time and The Underground Highway to Creative Results are two highly effective ways to stay connected to your creativity.
