Paul Oscher :: COOL CAT
Cool Cat is pure Paul Oscher, a recording of deep blues feeling and great stories that paint vivid pictures in your mind, as some of the world’s best blues instrumentalists engage in a musical conversation with Paul’s voice and guitar. This is blues from the source – no one knows this music better than Paul, who joined Muddy Waters’ band in the ‘60s, lived in Muddy's house and shared the basement with the great Otis Spann.

He can wring pure blues from a guitar, harmonica, or piano, as well as from his own voice. Aficionados know – and have honored Paul with two BMA awards and nine nominations. Cool Cat, at once sophisticated and deeply honest, is another chapter in the living legacy that is Paul Oscher.

The playing on Cool Cat is direct and forceful. You’ll laugh as Miss Lavelle White tells the story of the “Dirty Dealin’ Mama” and despair at “Poor Man Blues.” You’ll see whole films in your head to “Mississippi” and “Ain’t That A Man.” “Money Makin’ Woman” will take you to New Orleans and “Hide Out Baby” will bring you to south side Chicago.  ...Find more about this artist and release

Clarksdale’s 16th Juke Joint Fest starts Thurs April 11
(CLARKSDALE, MS) - Many places lay claim to the title of the “Home of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” Cleveland, Ohio, has The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Los Angeles is where almost all record labels are headquartered, but neither is the fountain from which rock sprang. Memphis has always trumpeted its place in Rock history, as Elvis Presley’s home. So, here is what you do: Go to Memphis. Take I-55 South. Just a few miles outside of town, you will see a sign that says, “Welcome to Mississippi: The Birthplace of America’s Music.” Now you are officially in the home of the Blues and all of its bastard children, including Rock ‘n’ Roll.

From the Delta to the Hill Country, from Clarksdale to Jackson, and from Parchman Penitentiary to Biloxi, Mississippi has long been steeped in the history of modern music, producing artists like Robert Johnson, Ike Turner, Son House, Muddy Waters, RL Burnside, B.B. King—all Blues legends. The Blues grew and migrated from its roots in the cotton fields and churches of Mississippi to the larger towns farther north, with Memphis and Chicago being the metropolitan hot spots for musicians to play and hopefully get discovered while laying down on vinyl their music and tales of good whiskey and bad women.

(BATON ROUGE, LA) - Start planning your weekend! The Baton Rouge Blues Festival returns to downtown this April 13th and 14th with a heavy hitting lineup featuring some of the biggest names in the blues world. There will be 45 performances and 9 interviews taking place across five stages. The largest stage, the Crown Royal LA 1 Stage, is located at the bottom of Repentance Park near River Road and features a variety of nationally and internationally acclaimed performers interpreting the blues in their own unique way. The stage’s namesake, LA Highway 1, connects all of Louisiana from Shreveport to Grand Isle, cutting through hometowns of Slim Harpo, Silas Hogan, Buddy Guy and Lazy Lester.

The Aetna Swamp Blues Stage, located under the Crest in Galvez Plaza, showcases homegrown talent and recognizes Louisiana blues history. This year’s Swamp Blues performers include nods to Lazy Lester’s Excello Records hits as well as Baton Rouge legends Raful Neal and Tabby Thomas through the next generation of talent, Kenny Neal and the Neal Family and Chris Thomas King. ...Find more about the stages and artists at the Baton Rouge Blues Festival
