Bonita & The Blues Shacks :: SWEET THING
Sweet Thing is the second release of Europe’s world class blues export, B.B. & The Blues Shacks fronted by female singer Bonita Niessen from South Africa. Great duets go straight to your heart and the rhythm & blues tunes take you out on the dancefloor. Six originals and ten classic, rare covers making this album outstanding. Bonita is right on in the tradition of Ann Peebles, Etta James, Lula Reed and other unforgettable stars of the past. Blues and Soul from the 50's and 60's are still alive and this release is another proof.

The CD is jam-packed, 16 tracks that feature a mixture of catchy R&B tunes from a stellar who’s-who of 50s and 60s iconic sass providers. Bonita’s variable and glamorous voice fits perfectly to the B.B.'s, who like to move in the nuances of blues styles up to soul anyway, as well as to the 16 brand new songs on Sweet Thing, ten well-chosen and eloquently interpreted genre classics plus six perfectly fitting original compositions.

And of course, B.B.'s singer Michael Arlt is also on the harp and as duet partner on the microphone. Every song sits here and the album is thoroughly gripping, danceable and enormously varied.Traditional rhythm & blues and soul to let off steam and melt away. ...Find more about this artist and release

On August 3, 2019 Blues History will be made
“The 6 String Showdown 21 and Under will not be an event to miss. It really is a chance to see the future of young blues guitarists. This promises to be a show you’ll never forget”
Ed Simon – LA Beat

(LONG BEACH, CA) Not dissimilar to the date in 1951 when Mick and Keith first performed at Wentworth Primary School or July 6, 1957, the historic occasion when John met Paul, the next generation of the blues comes to the PCH Club in Long Beach, California (Golden Sails Best Western, 6285 E. Pacific Coast Highway) on Saturday, August 3! Don’t miss the next generation of blues torchbearers when 6-String Showdown and Stellar Shows present 21-And-Under, starring the best young blues guitarists in Southern California.

If you can picture Stevie Ray Vaughan at 16 or Buddy Guy when he was 21, this is a celebration of the best 21-and-under blues musicians behind the Orange Curtain!

This ain’t no guitar school recital. This is 9 of the baaaaaddest guitar slingers on the So Cal Blues scene. Each of these youngsters has been battle tested in 6 String Showdown regional competitions, performed on venerated stages up and down the Coast and come through with flying colors in order to be invited to be here tonight.  ...Find much more about the event and young artists
Ohio, North Dakota & Wisconsin to deliver the Blues goods this weekend
Among the nearly dozen blues festivals happening this weekend are the Canal Winchester Blues and Ribfest in Canal Winchester, Ohio, the Fargo Blues Festival in Fargo, North Dakota, and the Prairie Dog Blues Festival in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, all held July 26-27.

The Canal Winchester Blues and Ribfest is a two-day summer street celebration in historic downtown Canal Winchester featuring live blues music, world-class ribs, a wide variety of quality non-rib food options, children's activities, fan-cooled dining areas, and a beer & wine garden for our blues/rib-loving guests 21 and over. The 2019 artists include Tommy Castro, Dana Fuchs, and Chris Cain.

The Fargo Blues Festival features a 2-day, 12-band blues explosion that features world-class bands, great food, and plenty of ice-cold brews. The festival will be held on the grass of Newman Outdoor Field, a 1st class baseball stadium. Camping is within walking distance. Performers on Friday include the Eric Gales Band, Popa Chubby, Rick Estrin & The Nightcats, and on Saturday they include Sonny Landreth, Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, and Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials among others.

The Prairie Dog Blues Festival is held every year on historic St. Feriole Island, right on the Mississippi River. Headliners for their 22nd Anniversary include Anthony Gomes, Nikki Hill, Toronzo Cannon, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Tas Cru, and Eliza Neals. There are also some hard choices to be made at The Prairie Dog! You can either get up out of your chair, stretch and walk a few yards to the beer tent or you can have one of our lovely Prairie Dog Beer ladies bring your drink to you! Decisions, decisions! ...Find links and further details about these festivals plus more
Fond Farewell Opens Door for New Summer Series
(HAYWARD, CA) - On the second weekend of July 2019, the Hayward Russell City Blues Festival celebrated its 20th Anniversary - and as it turns out, its last festival. Due to a variety of factors, the West Coast Blues Society has decided to change the show's format from the two-day Hayward Russell City Blues Festival to a Summer Series of several single-day, July blues shows. The venue is to remain in Hayward, and the shows will continue to celebrate the rich cultural and musical tradition of Russell City and the East Bay during the post war years from the 1940's thru the 1960's. We can show our support for the West Coast Blues Society and the Russell City blues shows by contacting the Mayor’s Office in Hayward, California, to let them know how much these shows have meant to so many of us. More information about Russell City can be found at their website.

In addition to all the great music, a special highlight this year on Saturday was the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to Ronnie and Paula Stewart. The Stewarts, along with a host of volunteers, have worked tirelessly to make the festival a success over its 20-year run. The award was made on behalf of The Golden Gate Blues Society and was presented by Richard MacLaury, President of the group. ...Find more about the festival history and upcoming plans
