Tokyo Tramps :: IF I DIE TOMORROW
If I Die Tomorrow, from Boston’s Tokyo Tramps, flows as effortlessly as the Mississippi. Straddling rock, blues, New Orleans funk, and more, this seventh record of the band’s 20-year career shows husband and wife team of guitarist/singer Satoru Nakagawa and bassist/singer Yukiko Fujii hitting an almost Zen-like groove in their songwriting.

After releasing 6 albums of original material and experiencing life’s ups and downs over the last 18 years, Tokyo Tramps have no fear in bringing their true inner voice to the world.

Thirteen tales of life, love, friends and fiends; universal themes to be sure, but told from a deeply personal perspective. Propelled by fiery guitar work as equally rooted in Delta mud as it is in Hendrix-inspired tones, Tokyo Tramps’ take on blues-infused classic rock is unlike anyone else. “This album is a watershed moment for us,” says Yukiko. “It’s a milestone. We went through so much to make this record. We almost lost hope on it ever seeing the light of day. But we didn’t, and now we have the best record we’ve ever made.”

“This is closest we’ve come so far to the original sound I’ve always been after,” adds Satoru. “American music changed our lives.”

Intrepid Booking Agency celebrates 25 years with all-stars Nov 8-9
(CHARLOTTE, NC) - Five years ago, when Rick Booth’s Charlotte-based blues booking agency Intrepid Artists International celebrated its 20th anniversary, he wasn’t sure what to expect. He was tentative when he rolled up to Neighborhood Theatre in a limo that night.

“I’m praying that somebody’s in there,” the Charlotte native recalls, sitting in his office overlooking Kings Drive. He needn’t have worried. “The place was packed with my buddies from high school and college. It was an epic night.”

Given the success of Intrepid’s 20th, Booth [pictured] is upping his game for the agency’s 25th anniversary with two nights of live music from many of the musicians on Intrepid’s roster.

Night One of “A Rock n’ Roll, Soul, & Blues Revival…The Sequel” takes place Friday [Nov 8] at Amos’ Southend (1423 S. Tryon St.), with Asheville’s Empire Strikes Brass, blues saxophonist Vanessa Collier, Chicago’s Steepwater Band, and New York electric blues vet the Albert Castiglia Band and Friends. Those “friends” include other artists Interpid represents, including Mike Zito, Eric Gales, Kenny Neal, Gary Hoey, Toronzo Cannon and Jimmy Carpenter.

Night Two takes place at Neighborhood Theatre (511 E. 36th St.) on Saturday [Nov 9]. Acts will alternate between the main and bar stages. Neal, Cannon, Davy Knowles, and John Nemeth and the Blue Dreamers all play their own sets, with Castiglia and Zito appearing as a duo. Intrepid Rocks the Stones closes out the night with an all-star salute led by the Steepwater Band with Carpenter and Charlotte Checkers’ own Greazy Keyz Jason Atkins.

“Every band I called to be on it said ‘yes,’” Booth says. ...Find entire story here by Courtney Devores at the Charlotte Observer

Elvin Bishop To Receive Chris Strachwitz Legacy Award
(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) - Legendary guitarist, singer, songwriter and Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Famer Elvin Bishop will receive the Chris Strachwitz Legacy Award from The Arhoolie Foundation at the second annual Arhoolie Awards And Benefit Show in San Francisco on Friday, November 22. Elvin Bishop's Big Fun Trio (Elvin on guitar and vocals, Bob Welsh on piano and guitar and Willy Jordan on cajón and vocals) will headline the event which will take place at The Chapel, 770 Valencia Street, in San Francisco. Doors 7:30 pm, show 8 pm.

Deceptively loose but always tight…the raspy chuckle in Bishop’s singing and the sharp sting of his guitar are forceful and fresh, enduring and fun. – Fresh Air, NPR

The honor, according to Arhoolie.org, "recognizes exceptional musicians, teachers, community organizations, documentarians, and individuals working creatively to help keep tradition-based styles of music alive and moving forward. Nominations are made by board members, friends, and experts in our field. Winners are chosen by Chris Strachwitz and the Arhoolie Foundation board of directors. This award is simply meant to encourage, support, and shine a light on extraordinary individuals and organizations, and to help them continue their good work."
