Billie Williams :: HELL TO PAY
Summer 2019 may have been a scorcher, but the real fire was New York Blues Hall of Fame Artist Billie Williams’ latest album, Hell To Pay. Williams’ powerful record, her second with Grammy winning producer Danny Blume, weaves the blues into her unique style of contemporary roots music.

On the heels of Billie’s self-titled debut album, which received critical praise and worldwide airplay, Hell To Pay offers a collection of eleven new originals that showcase Williams’ songwriting and vocal prowess. Billie draws inspiration from heartbreak with her hard-hitting opening track “Damn,” and from devotion with her classic style soul tune “You.” Deeply affected by our troubling times, she also expresses her anger and concern in the feminist anthem “Ten Million Sisters,” and the title track “Hell To Pay,” which speak to the #metoo movement and the deepening socioeconomic divide.

Skillful writing, strong vocals, and world-class musicians make Billie Williams’ Hell To Pay a record that will leave a lasting impression across the musical spectrum.

Press:
“...in full blues mode, pithy, powerful, and sure of the terrain...Billie Williams is an emotionally resonant vocalist. She GIVES a performance.” — Alix Cohen, Woman Around Town  ...Find more about this artist and release

The Untold Story of James “Superharp” Cotton
Please support the film They All Stood Up: The Life And Legacy Of James Cotton

They All Stood Up: The Life and Legacy of James Cotton, a film currently in production, is an emotionally evocative feature documentary that portrays the untold story of James “Superharp” Cotton, a legend whose musical influence shaped the Chicago Blues style having been mentored by the originators of the Delta blues tradition. Cotton’s life tracks a swath of America’s history – from the post-depression cotton fields of the Mississippi Delta to tough Chicago-land’s era of artistic reinvention to today’s live music scene in Austin, Texas. Along the way he plays with Muddy Waters, tours with Janis Joplin and Paul Butterfield and opened for/sat-in with the Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Santana, Steve Miller, B.B. King and many more.

Rarely seen archival footage and stills are woven throughout a visual landscape of original footage in which some of today’s finest harp and blues musicians lead us on a powerful journey, bringing a fresh and deep understanding of the harp in the expanding blues tradition. In new interviews and original concert recordings, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Vaughan, Steve Miller, Huey Lewis, Billy Branch, Paul Oscher, Annie Raines, Curtis Salgado, Kenny Neal, Rick Estrin, Bob Margolin, James Montgomery and many others...
