On his new album, Show Me Where To Sign, Chris Eger builds on the blues rock foundation for the future. Eger flexes his songwriting muscle and digs deep as he taps into a wide range of grooves that span classic soul, funk, Southern rock and roots/Americana-genre blending, as opposed to genre-hopping – all seamlessly pulled together with ultimate ease. “When it comes to writing a song,” he explains, “I'm pulling from Montgomery Gentry as much as I'm pulling from Chris Connell and John Hiatt. I love being a stylistic melting pot.”

For the record, the singer/songwriter/guitarists hunkered down in Nashville with longtime friend and influential singer/songwriter/guitarist Eric Heatherly who also handled the production duties. The album not only features songs written by Eger and Heatherly, but blues heavyweights Stacy Mitchhart and Gary Vincent contribute tunes as well. “This record!” Eger enthuses, “To say dreams come true is a huge understatement. Not only did I have the opportunity to work with one my musical heroes Eric Heatherly as my producer, but we were able to bring in Reese Wynans from Double Trouble to play keyboard and Bekka Bramlett for backing vocals.”

In addition to Rock & Roll HOF inductees Wynans and the impeccable Bramlett, some of the most prolific studio players in Nashville lend their talents to the album's 11 tracks. ...Find more about this artist and release

Is This The World's Oldest Electric Diddley Bow?
Shane Speal, musician known as the King of the Cigar Box Guitar and marketer of instruments, instructional videos and more, did a live broadcast where he showed off his historic electric diddley bow.

“Recently, I acquired an electric one-string guitar from the 1940's from an eBay listing that everybody ignored,” says Shane. “The instrument is a simple one-string guitar, played with a slide and using the most unusual guitar pickup I've ever encountered.

Last week, I was asked to take over's live broadcast on Facebook at the last minute, so I gathered the diddley and a hoard of other instruments and went live.” It was the the first time this diddley bow had been played in decades.
“I've started researching the parts that made up the instrument.” says Shane, “and discovered plans for it that were published back in 1945. I'm currently gathering info to write a big booklet about this discovery and how we can use this old technology for new, exciting instruments.”

He goes on to add, “If anyone knows a source where I can find pre-1940's headphones (as used in the diddley bow video), let me know.”

Shane also demonstrates a lot of very unique and vintage instruments in this interesting video. ...Find more about this diddley bow and Shane Speal's various collections
A Slice of Blue Yule from Keb' Mo'
Leave it to a bluesman to summon a sobering portrait of the holidays. The slice of blue Yule in question comes from the Grammy-winning Keb’ Mo’, who released a seasonal album in October called Moonlight, Mistletoe & You. The title suggests wintry warmth and romance. For the most, the record delivers just that. What greets you initially, however, is a jazzy blast of “Bah, Hambug” entitled “Christmas is Annoying.” The music is full of the kind of cheery flourish one might expect from a marque artist this time of year while the vocals practically skate along the song’s seasonal sheen. Then you get to the lyrics, a deflating realization that holiday wonderment from the singer’s youth has been dashed by relentless commercialism, maxed-out credit cards and a general sense of unyielding stress.
“Let’s apologize to Jesus for what went wrong,” Mo’ sings as the holiday spirit sags. You can practically see the record label board room dismay upon hearing such a popular and bankable artist open a new holiday album by singing, “It’s time to wrap this season up and leave it all behind.” Ho ho ho, indeed.

The rest of Moonlight, Mistletoe & You isn’t so playfully bleak. No sooner does “Christmas is Annoying” wind up than Mo’ slides into the string-savvy bliss of the album’s title tune... Read entire article from Walter Tunis/Contributing Music Column/
